Blowing Snow with Cub Cadet 2084 and 451 2 Stage blower
Cleaning the driveway after a good 8” snow with my 1993 Cub Cadet 2084 and 451 blower. It will chew through whatever it can feed into the impeller. The CH20 Kohler V twin engine in this tractor has about 1400 hours on it (from what the hour meter says), but still has plenty of grunt in it and sounds pretty mean when you get it on the governor.

Cub Cadet Voltage Regulator Repair
Переглядів 24 тис.6 років тому
A quick look into how mechanical voltage regulators work on starter/generator equipped cub cadets, and how to repair them. Learn some more here: 515cubcadetguy.wordpress.com/2018/01/19/mechanical-voltage-regulators/
What are your thoughts on Kohler command vs magnum? I keep hearing the opposed twin magnum has more torque for snowblowing and mowing.
KT19 Series 1 here. It's in a 7119 that looks like its been through a war, it's as old as I am and it's still going. A lot of vibration, though. I'm trying to figure out if it's the engine or the driveshaft and coupling.
Try removing the drive shaft and running the engine that way
...like warren G. Hah!
I just bought a 782 with a my 17 series 1 is that a bad thing? Do all series 1 throw a rod sooner or later or if serviced regularly and taken care of should it last a long time? Great video thanks
Well if it's got an original series 1 in it, it's well over 40 years old at this point and still running. Just keep oil in it religiously and it'll be as fine as anything else. Most of the ones that died did so long ago and have been replaced/rebuilt. If it were to toss a rod (which I wouldn't really worry about, but it's possible I suppose), you could replace it with any of the KT/M series engines easily, or upgrade to a CH18/20/22.
@@515cubcadetguy9 Thank you very much. I am going to change all the fluids, filters and keep it serviced regularly. Enjoying your videos!😊
This is great, did one of my inop. regulator following your video and works great. Could you show a video on the CCO & 70/100 cub cadet voltage regulator with the load terminal and how to properly set these. Great video! Thanks
I’d like to see where the voltage regulator is installed on my machine.
When I turn the key to start, it blows the fuse. Kohler engin sv330s, spec # PS-sv730-0011. I disconnected the starter, but it stills blows the fuse. Would that be the voltage regulator? It's in a Cub Cadet SLT1550. Any help would be appreciated.
what would cause the braided ground strap to melt?
Very helpful thanks
this was wonderful to watch. Thank you! I just got a 1450 from a junk yard that I am so close to being able to use around the property but I have a broken trunion and the springs and metal caps are missing. I can't seem to find them on the MTD website I see on your parts. any hints?
I have a new voltage regulator on my 127 Cub. When running at a moderate speed, the amp gauge is pegged in the positive. I checked the battery with my multimeter, and it’s charging at approximately 17.5 volts. Which way do I adjust the spring tension to drop the voltage down? Thanks!!
Did you have to do much work to mount this blower to the SGT frame? I just got one and wondering how involved its going to be to switch from my 60” deck to this blower.
Nice little work tractors! I just inherited a CC 1050 after my father passed. It's a 1989. Runs great. Clean but it has clutch problems. Do you have any vids on similar clutch rebuild/replace ?
First guy ever I've seen on UA-cam who also uses free all! lol I love the stuff
Hi, would a kt 17 series 2 from a cub cadet bolt on to a jd317 that had a series 1 in it? Thanks.
I need to do the same exact thing to mine.. It's rusted out in the same spots. 😬
Would a Kohler 18HP Command be as good at snow blowing as this engine is?
Same engine. Just remove the limit screw on the carb and re-adjust the governor.
@@515cubcadetguy9 okay, thank you.
My Cub 100 doesn't charge. I was worried I was going to have to get a new or rebuild my starter/generator. Definitely going to try this first. Thank you!
Looks like lava!
Wondering if you could help. I have a cub cadet xt1 riding lawn mower. One I was mowing and it just stopped. The hour meter was saying low battery so I replaced the battery. Now it still won't start and still saying low battery. I checked the fuse and wires and everything is good there. Is there something else it could be?
Super video! Thanks for the clear explanation! I have a cub cadet ltx1050kw where the battery is draining when the machine is on. I wasn't sure where to start. Now I do . . . many thanks!
Hi, thanks for the video. Did this repair help the problem? I have a 1968 CC 125 that I feel needs this repair as well. How hard is it to split the tractor? Are there any videos of it that you're aware of or did you figure it out on your own or use the manual? We have lots of tools, welder, etc.
You didn't need to weld/braze? I have a 127 that darts off when I'm not very slow with the speed lever, and I'd heard that an entirely new holder for those trunion springs would probably be needed...
I did have to weld up the corners and file them square
I have an Allis chalmers 917 Tractor with a KT17 series 1 blown motor, can I replace it with a 22hp kohler command.? Any other ideas please advise.
You probably can. I can’t speak to that model specifically but if you get the crank alignment right and the adapters right, then you’ll just need to convert the wiring for the magneto ignition on the command. You need the ground the coils to stop it instead of providing 12v to the coil to get it running. I usually use an automotive relay for that and it works well.
somewhere in the distant past someone ran that engine with a very low oil level.
how would you rate teh Kohler M18 vs the Onan P218 ?
IMO the P218 is a better engine. The P218/P220/B43/B48 are closer to what the big K twins were (K482/K532/K582), which are basically what the KT/Magnum twins replaced. Heavier one piece fully cast iron crankcase vs a three piece cast aluminum crankcase with cast iron bolt on jugs for the KT/M. If I had two freshly rebuilt or brand new engines side by side, I'd probably take the Onan. That being said, parts are a bit harder to come by for the Onan engines, and there's at least some aftermarket support for the kohler, so if it came to getting one that had been hurt or needed work, I'd probably go with the kohler.
Disrespect blowing snow on the neighbors, unless that is your property.
I asked them first. I also usually do their driveway for them as well.
@@515cubcadetguy9 You are the man !.. Fantastic machine, That CH20 does sound fantastic. I have the K341 16hp Kohler and it is a beast as well, I put a bit of 2 cyc motor oil in my gasoline just as a precaution for upper cylinder lubrication and I change the oil often.
he said warren G.. hahahhaha .. 518 cubs heres. 2 on my chan
Throws that heavy plow over snow like nothing
I'm restoring a Simplicity 17 GTH-L with a series 2. Sometimes when starting it makes a screeching noise and a loud knocking sound. It doesn't do it all the time. After it starts sounds fine and no smoking. Just wondering if you have any do this?
Often a screech on startup is due to the bearings in the starter lacking lubrication. Pretty common problem on these. You can tear the starter down and clean it and lube it and that should fix it, generally speaking.
@@515cubcadetguy9 ok thanks. What about the loud knocking sound? Could that be the starter too?
Possibly the bendix not disengaging? You’ll have to tear into it a bit and see.
Many thanks for the video. Where do I find this regulator on an XT1?
You’re not going to find this on a cub cadet made since about 1975 or so. After that they are all solid state or electronic.
@@515cubcadetguy9, could you replace your vintage solenoid V/R with a standard solid state V/R. It seems to me that the standard rectifiers would work, I would just use G-F as on the AC side and GRN- BAT on the DC side ?
I've pushed a lot of snow with a 127, but had fluid filled tires and 75# weights. You did a good job in that wet heavy stuff without weights or chains. Do you clear that sidewalk as a public service?
Where is Part 3?? I was looking forward to the repair of the busted rod (I've go two, one Series 1 and on series II that have that problem).
Do you know if some series 2 have electronic ignition instead of points?
They were all points. The M18 is basically the KT-17 with electronic ignition.
@@davidropte7196 Thanks for the help!
No problem. You could probably use a points saver type system on a stock KT, or you could maybe swap in m18 components if you wanted, but it’s probably more work than it’s worth.
Broken roll pin on oil gear
Blown up oil gear actually :D
Oh you must of had the plastic gear. There's an updated steel gear you can replace it with
So mine has what looks to be a plug in that port but it's not raised as high, it definitely isn't just a hole but it looks like it's 1/16th verses a 1/8th plug. I'm guessing the only way I'll ever know is to see if I can thread it out and put a pressure gauge on it. Of course mine is on a wheel horse and it's in a super fun place to get to.
I bought a regulator and after installing it the engine turns over as soon as I hook the battery up. What am I doing wrong?
Very common problem. On most new voltage regulators, the terminals aren't laid out the same as the old ones. It's likely that the G on the bottom of the regulator is for Generator. You should hook up F to Field, G to Generator, B or Bat to the battery and leave the L terminal empty. Ground should go to a ground on the tractor. The regulator generally grounds through it's mounting tabs.
@@515cubcadetguy9 thanks for the advice, this really had mixed up. Would be ok to reply here if I have anymore questions?
@@515cubcadetguy9 just to clear things up. The 3 terminals on my new regulator are F,Batt, and L. The single terminal on the back isn't labeled at all
@@paulbarker1118 The one on the back is where Gen should go. Field wire (the small one from the starter/generator) goes to the F, Batt goes to the battery (should be 12v all the time) and you don't use L on a cub cadet (it would be for something like lights)
@@515cubcadetguy9 thanks a ton. Hopefully I didn't ruin the regulator hooking it up wrong. This has been a big help! Thanks again!
Fantastic sir .thank you for the video
Grant video brother keep them come #smallengination
Wheel weights and chains make a heck of a difference don't they. #smallenginenation
They sure do. Was pushing last weekend with my 782 sans both, and it was quite a struggle.
@@515cubcadetguy9, I have a cub cadet 107 with a snow blade on it. I haven't used it yet but would like to. I put 23x10.50x12 carlisle ag tires on it with wheel weights.
They’re fun little snow movers. You’ll run out of traction before anything else. I usually go through with the blower first after a big snow to make room for the blade to push some snow and clean down to the pavement/sidewalk.
I need to get one
look good
you need a blower for this
@Cody Freeman I have both a hydro and a gear drive, and a blower and a blade. The blower is definitely better on the hydro so you can control your speed better at full throttle ,and the blade is better on the gear drive so you can run the clutch instead of having to run both the hydro and lift while steering.
you need a cab lol looks good
Heck yes I need a cab! And another Cub to put it on!
so for sure if it has the plate it is a series 2? Good to know i have 2 of these in in the process of installing one in my wifes 317 john deere.
For sure it’s a series II crankcase, and a little bit later one at that. M18s all had that plate as well. It’s basically the same engine. KT17 SII is a great engine.
Well done, with basic information that actually works.
Got any chains on that bad boy?
Not last year. This year I’ve got weights and chains on it! Gonna get a chance to use it in a couple of days I think!
nice tip
i need some help my will start to work at 11.98v and turn off at 12.5v
great video. I am hoping this is the fix i need to get my cub charging again. Thanks!
Glad I could be of help! I've found this is the most likely cause of these things not charging. Also be sure the ground wire is connected. Happy to walk you through other things it might be too!
I have a 128 it has a 4 terminal volt regulator it batt, generator, field, ground. The one I got to replace is load, batt, field will it work?
