      So that the knit (purple) covers the raw edge of the other. Check out time 1:56 on the video ;) I've checked how the final finish has to look before attaching the two fabrics, this is how I knew how to align them when sewing. Great question, thanks!

    Just found your channel this morning. You are just what I was looking for. I have collected a ton of t-shirts that I want to refashion and I truly appreciate your positive attitude and creativity for those of us 40+. I have gotten that one t-shirt book from the library before but, as you said, I must look at it for ideas and techniques rather than use it as actual patterns for me...not my vibe. Thank you for your informative video and I'm off to watch more ;)

      Thank Jan, I truly appreciate your kind words!!! I'm not very active posting at the moment but if you decide you can download the e-book on my website, "Clothes Upcycling Starter Kit" (free for subscribers) - it has lots of techniques and ideas to choose from along other valuable information on refashioning. It's worth investing time and figure what you'd like to wear and make something of your own. I found having "techniques", methods or ideas what to do very helpful starting point. Not many on YT appreciate extensive videos, but your comment brings me hope people actually want more than a 1-minute quick no sew redo :) Have fun creating and if you want more get on the website list for more later this year ;)

    You must be very tiny to be able to make a skirt out of four sleeves (from two men's shirts) that fits you.. I'm considered small; but, I am not tiny. I use my scraps to make quilts.

    • @ecofashionsewing
      @ecofashionsewing Рік тому

      You can always add fabric pieces of same length on the sides or another sleeve/s to make it work @arvettadelashmit9337. If you already make quilts, then a quilted style of added skirt would look great! The key is to pick colours or patterns that look beautiful together and appeal to your personal style ;) Have fun creating😊💃

    Hello, Thankyou for your videos I just found your channel this morning.....did you ever make a video on how to extend shorts into longer wearable pants?

    • @ecofashionsewing
      @ecofashionsewing Рік тому

      Hi Gypsy, thanks for the question... No, I haven't made for shorts into longer pants yet. What material are your shorts? I'd say, decide depending on key things like: 1) How long do you want to extend them 2) What style you want to make (so you choose the proper secondary material/s), and 3) What seams you like to use (usually, depending on type of material or as the main garment you're adding to). I'm sure you'll do it better but want to mention it too as it could 'make or break a project': Don't simply add a 'block' of another fabric/garment, but spread it here and there, embellish or put patches from the secondary on the main, so the redo looks like this was the initial design idea instead of an afterthought. Hope that helps a bit. Let me know if you have other questions, will be glad to share thoughts ;) Best, Mariana

    Wow! I am amazed at how well it turned out. I have seen others turning a dress or a top into a skirt and often it has looked like 'this is a dress I am wearing in the wrong way' rather than pieces that are meant to be worn as a skirt. You really succeeded in this by adding those little extra details to the skirt to make the skirt flattering to wear.

    • @ecofashionsewing
      @ecofashionsewing 3 роки тому

      Thank you for your lovely comment, Matti! Coming especially from a fine creative like you means A LOT. I think in this skirt what helped the most was the fine knit fabric, so the sleeves add nice volume to the silhouette and yet keep it stylish. Heading over to your channels and web to learn more about your makes. I love the creative challenge collaboration you did with Evelyn Wood. Keep up the amazing work! Marianaxx

      I love to wear dresses mostly in summer, so how to go about turning 'old' pieces into comfy and cool dresses would interest me greatly. But for winter I always find I need bottoms as I have a lot of tops that go with nothing! :) and tunic type tops to go over pants would be good too. I've seen a coat made into a dress/tunic for winter and lovely tops made from two different tops that have been cut and sewn together. I just love the idea of doing this! Generally speaking though I love the idea of 'slow fashion' and reworking any piece of clothing really. Thanks! :) p.s. Loved the video and your lovely jacket!
