I am from Malta 🇲🇹 😢
His name is Charles Benfield

Short film, but a good one.
any idea what the soundtrack is? Quite an energetic tune
This film is a propaganda for english people. It was the result of the armistice of Cassibile in Sicily (that was under allied occupation) signed between the new italian rule of prime minister Pietro Badoglio after that the king of Italy arrested Benito Mussolini and put him in a jail on Gran Sasso mountain. The fleet was ordered by the new rule to move toward Malta as according with british admiralty. During the trip a bomber squadron set in Mrarseille (France) of Lutwaffe with Dornier Do 217 with the new generation of anti ship radio guided havy bomb named Fritz X bombed the fleet at high altitude ( 15.000 feet). Two Fritz X sunked the battleship Roma that exploded. In maintime the king excaped from Rome toward Brindisi in Apulia. So there was no surrending because there was no more war after the armistice signed also by british commanders in chief in date september 8, 1943. The fascist party had no majority in parliament in 1922 and Benito Mussolini made a military golpe named "marcia su Roma". The king of Italy named VittorioEmanuele III that was the chief commander of the army didn't oppose to this golpe and named Benito Mussolini as Prime Minister. The parliament was broke up. So with the armistice the king wanted save his monarchy from the ageement with Mussolini. After the war the king abdicated to his son that was named Umberto II also in this case to save the monarchy. But a referendum of italians decalred the finish of the kingdom in Italy. During the fascist regime the king had also signed the law against jewish people italian citizens in 1938 that had to escaped or hidden not to be shipped in german laghers.
Today Villa Guardamangia is derelict and it is being sold for almost €6,000,000. God knows whether it will be restored into hopefully a boutique hotel, or gutted except for the façade to make way for a block of modern apartments. The elevated garden promenade seen in the old film in which the royals are seen walking has almost all collapsed. It is scantily visible on Google Maps by clicking on this link Dropped pin Near Pieta maps.app.goo.gl/ubEMeKbccX6ujoCD8
'Villa Guardamangia', it is going to be restored to it's former glory and as a museum. That is good news that this historical building is going to be restored!
my dear mother worked in Villa Gwardamangia during the time the queen and Prince Philip lived there - she met my dad there in 1943 when my dad was also in the Royal Navy - they married in 1944 - and the villa looked lovely there

My father did the Malta convoy, in corvettes, he wouldn't really talk about it, he also did Atlantic run and I have his Burma star. He did once say one of his worse nightmares was when they had to drop depth charges amongst uk sailors because of a german sub. I hate and detest those stupid idiots, who get air time and condemned Churchill. I hope their families die horrible deaths.
apix delirium and questionable narration
Very ironic...Malra to the RN was what Guadalcanal was to the USN. Both were bitter fought battles with great loss of ships and life.
I wonder if these ships saw action against the Axis powers after they surrendered. From what I understand the Italians joined the Allies to some degree.

The Italian fleet was run by traitors free masons that wanted Italy to lose the war, they hardly got out of the harbor with they superior ships.
@ i suggest you to change your information sources
@ that's not fascist propaganda, read J. Sadkovich books. History is always written by the winners and never treated analitically. A deep analysis makes a good historian, not biased researches
@ ok i understand the kind of person you're. Not worth to talk with
How was Italy going to win the war? The Italian economy was puny and couldn't sustain a major war effort and you don't win a world war by controlling a small European inland sea. Italy was basically a passenger and whether they won the war or not was entirely predicated on how successful the Germans were. The Germans lost so Italy lost with them.
Wow!
The lateral inversion of Malta, by British Pathe. There are other flipped Pathe clips, some with the Pathe logo (which is not flipped). It's very... Pathe...
Fantastic video, thanks for sharing.
thanks to who ever posted this film. This is my Grandad and i stumbled across this whilst researching family tree. No one even knew it existed! UA-cam Rocks
I miss them buses Anthony.... :-( a sad day when Arriva took over!!!
All the Harbour scenes are flipped horizontally!
Evviva r Re Gorg!
Filmato incredibile. Grazie!
