Installing a Power Flex Gearbox Mount On My Ep82 Toyota Starlet GT Turbo

Hello fellow Toyota enthusiasts! Here I go again with my 1995 Toyota Starlet GT Turbo, this time I'm finally replacing the busted rear gearbox mount. Really great to see another video on this project. One thing to look into before you are fully committed: Check into your oil cooler orientation. I've always mounted mine with the fittings pointed up or with them pointed out the side (so long as the oil line entry is on the bottom and the exit line on the top). This is supposed to prevent air from being trapped in the system. Keep these videos coming!

    do you know if all AE chassis are the same size? I got a AE100 Wagon I want to 1UZ Swap

    • @teqdigest
      @teqdigest Місяць тому

      No unfortunately the AE100 is FWD and does not have the correct configuration or space to fit a 1UZ since it never came in a FWD setup. Of course, you could do anything with time, money, and some metal work but maybe you could look into a nice 20V 4AGE swap or a Camry V6 if you want to go bigger.

    I suppose it's a lifestyle type thing, but most of the large roof racks are to look cool.... Which is great! I have a 2000 Montero sport. I wanted a 4- runner but people think because I am 62 I am stupid one guy tried to sell me an 01 4-runner he was white but the name on the title was Vietnamese. I like my Montero sport it's alot like the 4-runner, but hard to work on but it's paid off and I look at maintenance like a car payment!

      I agree, the look sometimes outweighs the benefit of one of these large roof racks, if you have that outdoor-forward lifestyle then it's useable but for most people it just looks cool haha! Monteros are awesome by the way, my grandpa had a 1996 Montero in Puerto Rico and it was very capable and was very reliable being used for over 20 years.

    • @teqdigest
      @teqdigest 5 місяців тому

      @@user-pc1sb5ez5f Since the 4EFTE has a turbo and uses a harmonic balancer it's best to have something that is rubberized to some extent even if you're at stock power. The vibrations to the crank over time from having a lightened crank pulley can cause fractures. I did a lot of research on various forums and some people have used a 5E or non-turbo 4E pulley when needed, but there are a few nightmare stories of those failing as well. The price of a pulley like this isn't cheap but it's worth it if you are upping the boost or you can't find a brand new OEM pulley. I hope your build works out, please send some pic to TeqDigest@gmail.com or DM me on teqdigest on Instagram, i'd love to see it.

    Best Advice is to get some Chemical guys VRP and lather the plastic in it like a lotion. Then I personally let it sit on the plastic as it gets absorbed. This will work well especially as you have just cleaned the plastic of any older oils and things. I highly highly reccomend you do this, esp after going this far. 303 is ok alternative, but I know from experience VRP is what you would benefit most from. That Tuff Scuff spray is the bomb I love that product. Great work the interior looks pretty damn good. Hopefully it smells better, looks good in the car!

      Right?! It did some wonders, not bad for a $5 can of stuff, best part it didn’t ruin anything.

    How's the weight distribution on that thing btw? Engine is kind of heavy and could ruin the 50/50 balance. Nice build btw.

      I’m hoping to find out soon but since the 1UZ is all aluminum and the 4AGE has an iron block I’m sure the weight gain won’t be too extreme to throw off the 53/47 weight distribution. I definitely compensated by having the engine pushed back as far as possible even having to modify the firewall (6 cylinders are on/behind the subframe) and lowered the subframe to make sure I’m not driving a Japanese muscle car 🤣. A few people like @joshiroku on IG/YT have had a very good driving experience with this swap without going to my extremes. I hope to answer your question soon and thank you for the kind words!

    Would look so much better if it had the black side trim. It's missing and it makes it look like shit.

    Hey man I'm looking into getting one. I'm in Florida as well and I was wondering how the car has been treating you.

      It's actually been really good here's a shameless plug: www.teqdigest.com/post/project-ep82-how-it-started-how-it-s-going The car is still good on gas, it's been reliable and I've been learning how to change the consumables fairly easy. Now that COVID is over in a sense, it's easier to get parts and other than typical 25 year old car problems (my paint is fading quickly and badly under the Florida sun) its like driving a Toyota version of a Civic Si. What part of Florida are you located in?
