Passionate & Dedicated
Passionate about the husbandry and breeding of true Altum angelfish, we believe Shoreline Aquatics is the only American producer of healthy, high quality, captive raised stock.
We are dedicated to conservation by producing an alternative to wild Pterophyllum Altum, which is imported with disregard to extremely high mortality rates in captivity.
(2023) Due to the decreasing habitats of many of our worlds plants and animal species, we are now making a push to produce Altum angelfishes spawned from wild stock. Our goal is to preserve these fishes in our hobby for as long as we can by offering angelfishes as they would appear in the wild. We will no longer be producing crosses from different populations.
Since maintaining wild Pterophyllum Altum angelfishes is extremely problematic. We highly suggest purchasing healthy, much easier to care for captive bred Altum.

I ordered a trio and am expecting them next Tuesday. Will 2 females and 1 male be ok with each other in a 20 long?
Yes they would but I think the extra female would be that, an extra. 1 pair would get along better
Can I add these to an African Cichlid tank?
I wouldn't recommend this as African cichlids are likely to sttack the fins of long fin plecos
Wow! What a strikingly attractive species. You are so lucky to have gotten some, and bred them. We don't see this species in the UK. Thanks for posting this video, and the useful advice.
Thank you for posting this I have just ordered a trio of these
I was looking for Atabapo altums, but man these are every bit as nice! These are incredible!!! What size do you sell these at and do you find them like typical tank bred...ie. far less problems than wild caughts? Thanks for your time. Where are you? Can you ship?
I'm currently working with four different types of wild Altum. I do not have fish from atabapo. I ship all over the continental United States from Shoreline, Washington. Typical selling size is US Quarter Coin Body. 3-4 months old. Captive bred Altum are similar in care to domestic Scalare angels. Wilds are only advisable for advanced keepers. Oftentimes I cannot save them
Planning on keeping 6 of these in my 185 gallon planted tank with some vampire and bamboo shrimp with no other fish (maybe a school of congo tetras?) do you think I can manage to have 8 of these or is six in this size tank enough. Do want them to be comfortable. It is fully and densely planted! Also, do these jump?
You can keep many of these in the tank. I have a 150 gallon planted with more than a dozen. I'm not sure if they would attack your inverts are not but it would be a risk for sure
Also I've seen these to be jumpers especially when they're just getting established into the aquarium
@@shorelineaquatics5210you think I can keep this with 18-20 congo tetras and maybe a congo puffer?
What about with 8 German Blue Rams? Is 6 of these, 18 congo tetras, and the 8 GBR’s doable in the 185?
I was telling someone over fb messenger that I wanted some of these, and then your video popped up. Beautiful fish! ❤❤
Thank you I really appreciate it... I hope to have fish available by the end of this year 2024. 🙏
@@shorelineaquatics5210 What locale? Atabapo per chance?
Awesome video! I want to get a pair of these next
You're welcome. It is tricky it needs to be done exactly like the video. Best of luck
I can't get it to final nice consistency, i whisked well but it formed lump like shape, shd we reduce the heat at that point?
It happens fast. The idea is to mix into the slurry very quickly and then take it out right away. Don't let it cook
After that it needs to be panned right away Perhaps it is cooling for you too fast and seizing up
@@shorelineaquatics5210 Actually the lumps formed immediately once i added the mix in the agar agar boiling water when i started to whisk it, I actually added a little too much water and I had set the flame too high and it reacted immediately...I quickly removed some water and then added some more agar powder and it finally came like yours but some lumps here and there...I think we can turn off the stove once the agar slurry is whisked properly in the boiling water and then later add the mix and whisk again faster to stop further cooking of the mix...I will try that next time and see....Thanks for this awesome method, Yours is the only video in youtube explaining this..👍
Just purchased 6 of these from you. Can’t wait to get them!
Thank you so much you will not be disappointed😊
Hi, do you do export to Singapore for this fish?
I am not licensed for export
Do you have any of these for sale?
Yes. www.shoreline-aquatics.com
Thank you! @@shorelineaquatics5210
Thomas, do you know when you will have the Rio Ventuari available for sale? These are beautiful Altums
Thank you. Perhaps 2025
thanks Thomas@@shorelineaquatics5210
Thomas, do you have any altums from Atabapo or just Orinoco?
I do not have any Atabapo. I am working with Orinoco, Vichada, Ventuari, and Negro San Felipe Altum
Wow I heard there was another Ivanacara Now I see a beautiful pair . Questions answered ; Also Mr Shoreline your videos on the Altums spawning( a few years back) were by far the best clearest concise ; so much bullshit on Altums and you cut thru that ;
Thank you so much
Wow! you've must have lots of Altums!!! Great vid!
Breath taking!
What do you do there for water parameters and quality? RO water? Activated carbon? DKH, pH, temp? Nice fish!
This tank the water goes in at about 20 tds. The ph settles naturally to about 5.5 There are some botanicals in there like the driftwood and cattapa leaves, but, the water stays clear mostly because I do weekly water changes at about 66%
@@shorelineaquatics5210 Thanks very much. What type of Altums are those in the video? Atabapo, or Orinoco?
Neither. Rio Ventuari
Hi, May I know the substrate yiu are using? And any suggestions for breeding plz!!
I use sand from Carib Sea. I believe it to be quartz. Inert furnishings filter media and substrate. Botanicals like leaves and driftwood. RO water
I have seen Cb altum can do well riding along with a discus method. I personally like to give my pairs big tanks 200+ gallons. Smaller tanks that do well I think 110. 48x18x31
What is the age required for starting the spawning process usually in your experience?
Tank bred @ 1.5 year. Wild 2 years+ +
@@shorelineaquatics5210 Thank you once again brother. What’s the Altum approx breeding tank volume??? Is it possible to grow discus babies (coin size) along with f1 Altums size around 1.5 inches??
Just wonder how much is small size usually it goes vs wholesale price??
Small price last year was $90..a great deal since the last wilds I purchased were at 85 & 100 in 2023.. these look great and arrive healthy. There is no wholesale price list..thanks
Thank u so much for making this video!!! Really helpful and informative
Glad it was helpful!
Brother, Is it okay to feed quality frozen blood worms for the F1 Altum small babies (around 1.5 inches size body)??
Over the years I have learned to avoid freshwater live and frozen foods. Most likely feeding bloodworms to healthy Altum will be fine. There is some element of risk. I'm more likely to take these type of risks when I'm trying to spawn fish. I think the best frozen food is spirulina brine shrimp. Frozen foods can possibly contain bad bacteria, but since this food is saltwater grown, it is not likely to contain parasites or protozoa.
@@shorelineaquatics5210 Thank you so much for sharing your valuable experience. Do you also recommend sanitise and wash well quality frozen artemia with potassium permanganate before feeding to altum babies??
I've never heard of this fish food cleaning process..In general, fish that are healthy can resist many things. Bacteria is a part of life. Look up "Germ vs Terrain Theory" Aquarium fish living in a bubble is not the goal.
@@shorelineaquatics5210 Thank you so much ☺️ for all the support!!!
@@jojyp You're welcome
xanhmetilen ?
Yes
Can we feed Live Moina or Dafnia for baby altums like baby brine shrimps? is it safe to feed?
I used to feed freshwater live food. Over the years I've had some problems the introduction of harmful bacteria and pathogens. The number one food for baby fish is baby brine shrimp.
@@shorelineaquatics5210 Thank you so much for the valuable info.
@@jojyp you're welcome good luck with your fish
What’s the tank size and how frequently you are doing the water changes??? How much quantity of water you are changing?? What are the types of food you’re giving to the F1 Altums??
How much maintenance is required depends on the stocking levels. I like to have 10 or 12 fish together to grow up.. I like to use really big tanks 200+ gallons but you can get away with a 6 foot 125 gallon. My maintenance would be weekly changing water 60% or more.. I would clean my mechanical filtration once every two weeks. I feed a vegetable-based flake food in the morning and later in the day brine or mysis shrimp. These fish can adapt to eat most dry foods that are offered. I currently have a tank that is 240 gallons it has 30 sub adult altum. I consider this overstocked. I change this water twice a week as low as I can without scaring the fish. In general I don't like to change lower than the fish are tall with the fins. I also favored tanks that are tall. 30 inches high is super nice..enjoy!
@@shorelineaquatics5210 thank you so much for all the information!!! One more question I have around 7 pieces f1 small babies in 35 gallon tank now. Is it okay to change 50 percent after every 2 days or 3 days with aged water 💦??
@@jojyp Riverine fishes love water changes. You can change the water everyday if you like. I use a python type water fill system and go straight unaged to the tank.. I add the dechlorinator afterwards. Just because they accept daily water changes doesn't mean that this is necessary. What you're looking for is the right amount of care. Sometimes over care can leave the fish weaker when they are exposed to small amounts of pollution. Something to consider. Good luck
@@shorelineaquatics5210 Thank you so much 😊 for all the information ℹ️. Really appreciate your help and advice.
@@jojyp you're welcome
I also have a pair from the same breeder! Mine are growing out their first batch of fry that are about a month old glad to see you also putting in good work in breeding these little dudes!
I follow you on Instagram.. your tank looks great! Thank you so much
I would love to pick up a male-female pair of these.
As soon as these fish become sexable I will sell them as pairs.
Any updates?
Man i want these guys so bad!!! Sadly I have SUPER hard tap, and alkaline water (Bay Area, California) im sure after a while they will adjust, but these fish are so expensive I kinda dont want to risk it lol. EDIT: on second thought I must just do an RO tank, I work at an aquatic pet store so It wont be too annoying to use only RO
Absolutely I would recommend reverse osmosis in your case. These fish do not require a large amount of space so this helps. In another month or so I would fully expect these fish to be sexable so if you don't want so many fish you'll be able to pick up a male-female pair
@@shorelineaquatics5210 Awesome!! Ill be waiting to get a pair for my science classes blackwater tank im doing
What are your water parameters?
5.5 / 18
Always love the colors of Ivanacara
That's fantastic! I have many pairs of Ivanacara Adoketa, but I've never had the chance to own Ivanacara Bimaculata because I've never seen them sold in Japan before. Hopefully, in the future, I can keep a pair of Ivanacara Bimaculata.
I believe sometimes F1 pairs are available on aquabid shipped all over the world from Sweden. I'm not sure what this would cost with import regulations and duties going into Japan, but, to get this started over there for everybody it might be worth it. Shoreline Aquatics is not currently setup for export. In the next few years that can change possibly. Thank you so much and happy fish keeping!
Man I really hope you get these again. Been waiting a long time. Will be excited once you do and hope to be your first to get them from you. Best of luck!
Thank you Andrew. Unfortunately the fish that I had from this cross we're lost. Although people were kind enough to offer them back to me, I decided to move on and get all new Wild pterophyllum altum to try to spawn in 2024.
Beautiful
Thank you❤
Amazing fish and video. Thanks!❤
You don't concern about the missing nutrients value due to the heat?
How to breed?
We are going to find out if they will next year hopefully❤
(Thank you for this!) Why do you make the Agar slurry, instead of just dropping in the flakes? Edit: Does that stuff stick to regular pans? Or you use non-stick something??
Is the common technique in cooking to dissolve starch in water that way it's not lumpy and it's constant throughout the food. It will not stick to the pan as.long as the pan is smooth. Thanks!
good Video, nice Fish! thank you for share and new sub for you 😉😉
Thank you so much
oh can't wait. i love your fish
Thank you so much...
@shorelineaquatics5210 absolutely. your fish are the only ones that have ever stayed alive for me. i have ordered from other places with zero success
I have kept fish in the UK for 50 years or so on and off wild angels have always been my passion discus a beautiful distraction I was in and out of the trade in my younger years . I just want to thank you for deciding to breed pure lines . Unfortunately we need to turn our passion into a conversation project you new generation are embracing that 🙏

Beautiful Pleco’s 👍
Absolutely. Thank you.so much
If i wanted a video of shit music and no info then i would go to seasame street
In India Alaska cod or Pollack is not available so what fish may I use??
Use fish from saltwater. Freshwater fish meat may contain pathogens and or parasites that are transferable
How many gallons would you say are necessary for a couple of them?
I keep four of these in a 20 gallon tank
@@shorelineaquatics5210 thank you! Do they ruin plants or can they live in a planted tank?
@@esse3978 they can. If you let them get too hungry they can possibly eat some plants. I noticed that anubias and java fern seem to be left alone for sure. Softer plants like WIsteria for example would be the first to be eaten if you let your fish get too hungry. Even though the tank might be full of plants I would still recommend maintaining a regular water change schedule
