I was nervous wondering how that was going to work but it did the trick! I think i would try double sided tape to hold the blocks. Def gives me ideas for planing odd shaped/sized items! Cheers Ron, always enjoy your tips and i cant wait to see what the project is going to be!
That's a smart way to plain those blocks. I love the idea of the widges too.
Thanks for watching.
Lots of useful tips! I have one question about how you located the rabbets for the drawer slides. I would think that you have to be very precise with the rabbets to accept the slots in the sides of the drawers. How did you measure to make sure those rabbets lined up with dados in drawer sides?
Thank you for watching. Once the front has been glued back together, you can establish where the slides will be on the sides. Build the drawer to match.
@ thanks😄

Thank you for watching Klasik.
Very nice...Sir
Thank you for watching.
Great project and video. Been wanting to build one of these for some time. You've given me the motivation to actually do it!!!!
Thank you for watching Kenneth and good luck with the box.
Another satisfied customer.
Thanks Bill.
Looks really interesting! What makes the wax on the end grain a good thing, Ron? I bought some pen blanks and they have wax on them, do you have to just saw that off or ????
The wax keeps the moisture from leaving through the end grain quickly. Cutting the ends will work.
Nice clock and I like the way you work, no influencer S#*!. following you 👍
Thank you for watching.
I’d like to see what you do with a piece that size cheers for posting
Thanks for watching. I'm in the process of of filming the project now.
These are beautiful! And very different than a lot of what I've been seeing. I'm going to try to make one for my dog that just passed. Thank you for your video
Thank you for watching and I'm sorry for your lose,
Great tutorial! Thanks for the detailed instructions!
Thank you for watching.
did a very similar thing with tarps, looks great man!
Thank you for watching.
great one , thanks
Thank you for watching.
Extremely well made! Best regards from another woodworker😊
Thank you for watching. The best to you.
Gorgeous!
Thank you for watching.
Hi Ron. I'm late to the show. I have been at the craft for 45 years and built many boxes. This one is a beauty! Well done. Observation/question: the drawer pulls do not look like bubinga to me. They look like zebrawood. Yes? No?
Thank you for watching. I have had this question before. They are Bubinga from an expensive board I bought a few years ago. I use it for all my jewelry boxes.
@@RonMulletWoodwork thank you for responding. The only bubinga I have seen/used is reddish brown. I did a Google image search and sure enough, I saw some that looks like yours, with the stripes and all. Guess I'm still learning.
Just what I was looking for. Thanks.
Thank you for watching. I'm glad it will help you.
There are many fine compliments on this video and for very good reasons. It's your attention to detail, obvious experience and the ease of which you educate the rest of us. I'm sure I could round up a few more adjectives though I will cut it short(er) with a simple thank you. 🙃
Thank you Brent for those kind words.
Definitely enjoy and subscribed
I saved your video to watch again. You have several very useful tips that I haven’t seen others present. I appreciate your way of explaining why. Thank you
Thank you Rona for watching.
Those are very beautiful.
Thank you for watching.
Nice work again Ron.
Thanks for watching Les.
Really nice way to honor him. I'm sure they will be touched by the beautiful display. The maple inlay was a great touch and really sets it off, it's subtle but elegant. Nice work as always Ron! A final reveal and some beauty shots would be a nice finish to the video, but as someone who has edited videos I know how time consuming all that is! :)
Thanks for watching. That is a good suggestion.
Great build, Ron - really nice work!
Thank you for watching.
Very nice, adding the loose tenons may be overkill, but it is a great touch. I really like the shop built face too.
Thank you for watching. I appreciate your thoughts.
Thank you for doing this video
Thank you for watching.
Hi thanks for the measurements, but I have one more question, and that is what angle are the arms at?
57 degrees
Hi Ron, I just wanted to say I've now made 4 of these boxes for family and friends, including a smaller one for my 6-year old grandson Noah who's going to take it to school to astonish his classmates! Thanks so much for this explanation.
Thank you for watching. I'm glad you are spreading the fun.
Wow, Sir, you are a true expert. Clear explanation and excellent video editing. Thank you!
Thank you for watching.
Great video, and I am trying to make one myself about this size could you tell me what size the bottom square was and also the arms in the middle?
Thank you for watching. The top and bottem are 14" square and the arms are 18" long. Good luck.
@@RonMulletWoodwork Thanks but I forgot three questions in the original comment. those were what did you use to make the dovetails and what angle were the arms at? And what is the name of the tool that you used in the bottom to make the hole for the tensioners
Excellent Work! Beautiful.
Thank you for watching.
Fantastic build quality !! Looking at it from a magicians perspective, could you finish one, in black paint, with a Chinese dragon on the sides. Or perhaps a golden Egyptian face ?? On top.
Thank you for watching. It could have any finish you wanted. I don't build these for sale.
Nice work Ron. May have make one of those next time I have a need.
Thanks Les. To be honest, I was suprised at how accurate it is.
Great jig for a great tool in the shop
Thank you.
Another great video Ron. Hope we will get a build video of the table😊
Thank you. Not enough time to make a video.
@RonMulletWoodwork well darn!
I love the video, you gave me a few ideas like with the pins in the bottom that act like bumpers. It's also much simpler and easier to tension than some examples I've seen. My only problem is that I'm a hand tool guy who can't make nice dovetails yet, so I'll probably stick the legs in with a wedged mortise and tenon unless I figure something else out.
Thank you for watching Dan. The weakest point is the dovetails so make sure that connection is very strong.
Beautiful work, Ron. I really appreciate the pointers along the way. Thank you.
Thank you for watching.
I really enjoyed this so have subbed 😃 Only thing I was thinking was would you put a small channel from the bottom corners (where the wee pins are, fab idea btw) to where you countersunk the tension thingee-majig? And what about maybe small feet on the bottom - so the wires etc aren't directly on the floor, as it didn't look like it was sitting dead flat on the ground. Prob stupid questions lol but I figured it didn't hurt to ask 🙂👍
Thank you for subscribing. Those are excellent questions and they defently would work.
Always enjoy your sharing of wisdom, especially when you show how to fix oopsies!
Thank you. I appreciate all your comments.
Nice work Ron.
Thank you Les.
Really nice work I love the tutorial to
Thank you for watching.
BEAUTIFUL!!!! I think the handles are actually Zebrawood, not Bubinga
Thank you for watching. When I built this, I did not have any Zebrawood in my wood inventory.
@@RonMulletWoodwork well..... I would have bet my whole pay check on this one. I have plenty of Bubinga, Rosewood and Zebrawood at home (and MANY others) and I will still go out on a limb and say Zebrawood.
Hi Ron. Great job! How many yards of fabric did you use?
Thank you for watching. I'm sorry, I don't remember.
@@RonMulletWoodwork Thank you for your response.
Very ingenious idea! I'll do something similar
Thank you and thank you for watching.
That is GORGEOUS! Thank you for showing us how the wood bowed and how you fixed it. That was quite interesting. I love the mortise and tenon join - I couldn't make one, but I think it's an elegant join.
Thank you and thank you for watching.
Your going to have to make a sawhorse that will make it easier to cut plywood.
I agree. Thanks for watching.
Great one Ron, this is exactly the type of oldschool woodwork project video I like to watch. 👍 I was going to say that the strike panel section might have been improved slightly by radiusing the inner corners instead of having 90 degree cuts, but then watching later on you show how the two sides have to come together, the curve would have been needed on both side pieces which probably wouldn't have been ideal either. End result is very schmick, great job!
Thank you for watching. I tried to keep the build as simple as possible.
Love how you share those little tips and tricks!
Thank you again.
Pleasure watching your process and your beautiful work piece. Your explanations are very educational and clearly show your high level of craftsmanship. Very well done, Sir!
Thank you for watching and your kind words.
