1986 Chevy K10 Squarebody Silverado Fuel Tank Installation
1986 Chevy, Squarebody, K10, 4x4, Fuel Tank Install
Update: Million Rigs is now Trucks of America
We're building out this 1986 Chevy K10, but first, we have to take care of some of the functional stuff. With the bed off and the frame painted we're ready to install the new fuel tank. The tank I removed was the original and was leaking very bad. With the tank being 34 years old I didn't bother inspecting to find where the leak was coming from. I just replaced it along with the sending unit
Check out this video to see how the install went.

We just purchased this 1986 Chevy Squarebody. Mostly original and had all the original paperwork with it. Nice straight body but does have some mechanical kinks to work out. We'll be upgrading this rig with a lot of new parts along with some amazing paint. Update: Million Rigs is now Trucks of America Make sure you hit SUBSCRIBE to follow updates from Trucks of America!

    Would you know what the crossmember you had a piece of wood would be called? I’m trying to find aftermarket replacement, and I cannot find it anywhere.

    Hello again have a question for you, was your wiring still good for your fuel tank and do you just have one tank not saddle tanks? I have a lot of decisions to make because my 79 K10 has saddle tanks and everything works great they switch back and forth but I know everything is old. I'm thinking do I just change everything on the tanks like the sending units and the actuator that sends the fuel to each tank since I have the bed off already or do I just leave everything alone since it's working. Anyways thanks again for your video just in case I do change everything I know what to do thanks to your video. Thank you again Buddy 👍👍

      Hi Anthony. I am super happy the video has helped you! My K10 only had a single fuel tank. I chose to replace the sending unit since it was a new tank and I already had the bed off - easy job too. I just thought it would be better to have it all new under there. Before I put the bed back on I tested the installation to make sure it was all working and reading correctly on the gas gauge, and it was. Check out the other video I did on painting the frame with the bed off. Adds a little time but great to do some surface rust removal and future rust prevention.

    What chasis paint did you use?

      Hi there and thanks for the question and for watching the video! I used Chassis Saver rust preventative paint from Magnet Paint Co. It was #970 Antique-Satin Black. Only used 1 qt for the job in the video

    How much does a job like this cost?

    • @trucksofamerica7302
      @trucksofamerica7302 3 роки тому

      I appreciate your questing and checking out my video! If you pay to have it done, I'm not sure. Cost me some elbow grease, a few tools, and 1Qt of Chassis Saver paint from Magnetic Paint co. Removing the bed took the most amount of time as I had a few bolts I had to cut off and get the bed removed by myself. Once the bed was off, the job took me about a day to prep and paint.

    Thanks for the upload.....but I can tell you are not from up north. Besides the accent you say "Rust in the south is bad".....two words for you "Road Salt" in Michigan those frames literally evaporate after a few winters.

      Nope, not from up North. The South doesn't have too much rust, certainly not like the East Coast North. However, I lived on the coast and the salt air would very quickly rust any bare metal. Thanks for watching the video!

      Hi Bubba! Thank you for watching it! I am from GA, but lived on the coast in SC for a minute; and now back in Southwest Georgia near the Flordia line.

    Being an old Chevy Man and having spent some time on the Drag Strip I can tell you that Header bolts are notorious for backing themselves out over time. It's a good idea to check them periodically to make sure they have not loosened up. Expanding and contracting of new headers and gaskets is the culprit. I saw in the 3rd video that you replaced the gaskets but do yourself a favor and keep checking the bolts until they seem to be staying put. Love the videos, keep them coming. Oh, I am also in the process of rebuilding an old 87 R10 I inherited from my Dad.

      I had a few that spun on me too. I ended up taking a small cutter and just cutting them off. Easy enough and not too costly to order a few new ones
