I don't know if you're seeing this, but I'm thinking about doing the Swift academy. Charlotte is 100 mi away from me, and I don't know of any other training locations closer to Asheville, but I can do Uber over there because Uber is really busy in Charlotte. I think training is Monday through Friday anyway. I'm honestly waiting on a call back from my local Ingles, since their distribution center is right around the corner for me, and I can get trained with them. But Swift is my next choice.

I make about 50k a year not driving, but work is drying up and I'm thinking about making the jump. I dont really want to do it for the same pay but with little to no home time. If I am to go otr and be away from my fam for weeks at a time, I want to make a substantial increase in income.

When you say a thousand a week do mean take home pay or before taxes

Im about done with academy, and my recruiter told me OTR reefer was where the money was at. I don't mind being out on the road for 3-4 weeks and being home 3-4 days, but I also heard that dedicated accounts like Walmart are also really good because its consistent and you aren't stuck waiting for drive leader to set you up with loads. Any input on that? Have you done OTR? Reefer only pays 1cpm more than dry van, but is it worth the hassel of the additional time and headache?

From Ocala FL myself man, getting my cdl class a permit here soon and plan on going through to swift for all that stuff. Hope I dont have a crappy experience but looking forward to learning how to do this.

you're driving an automatic rig....do you have a restriction on driving manual on your CDL or did you train with a manual and they just put you into a automatic tractor??

Man I’ve done so much research the last few months… I’ve been thinking I’m dead set on CFI or ROEHL. After looking into swift today I think I’ve changed my mind.. it really seems like it’s completely your own choice to do otr, regional, dedicated or local?? Is that correct? Do you know what home time usually looks like for regional?

Can i use my DOT CARD that I already have from my CLASS B CDL job?

A swift location is right here in Georgia(Metro Atlanta) "Decatur, GA". Not sure if it's a training school there. Would be very convenient for me. I could still work my CLASS B CDL job, while I train for my CLASS A CDL.

What I learn from a driver who worked for a transit company, he told me that you will have " Good drivers and some bad ones". If you hear anything that's negative look above it. An stay away from those are negative .

Don't run yourself down, pace yourself, you do have time to eat something, take shower, etc. Don't let yourself being control by the clock , make time and you can still get these matters done on time. An it's not just "You have to do this or have do that", Hurry up be quick about it, it's not worth burnining yourself out on the account of it. So don't , you have time and pace yourself.

What I want to share with you , that you should pace yourself

I have something that you would to know, what I learned from C.R. England. If you hear anything that's negative about any carrier or Swift; simply to look above it.
