Supper's Ready - Apocalypse in 9/8 Organ Solo
This is my stab at the organ solo played by Tony Banks in the Apocalypse in 9/8 segment of Supper's Ready. It was played on a Nord C2 and recorded with a Korg Kronos X 88. The backing track is a tweaked MIDI file, which is why it sounds a little crappy, and the video was taken with a 3rd gen iPad.

Performed by Jamie Cullum, this take on the song is from Karaoke Version, with me playing a Korg Kronos X 88. The video was recorded on an iPad 3, with the audio exported directly from the Kronos.

Moonlit Nite are a Genesis tribute band based in the North West. This is our first full band rehearsal of Duchess
I wish you added the mellotron part too...
Playing bass on this section will put you into a mesmerized state of being!
I always find it inventive that Tony Banks played 4/4 arpeggios over a 9/8 figure. Was it inventive or laziness/lack of creativity? Whatever the intention the end result delivers.
I'll say it again. You've got that song down pat. 100+
Il solo più bello di sempre. Tony Banks nominato sempre troppo poco tra i tastieristi contemporanei. Peccato poiché a mio modo di vedere un pilastro del Prog assieme al mio amore Emerson ed anche Wakeman.
Crazy.. Awesome stuff
Nord city
Puts a happy smile on my face! Prog rocks. 🍺
got it nailed well done ✅
I don’t know the musical terms for this but the best way I can describe it is that the tone of your instrument is not quite the same as the original with Tony. That being said, many people make attempts cover this solo. It could be that the result is their interpretation of the song, But I tend to think that it is their lack of ability to properly put the emotions, the intonations, the timing, or whatever it is that Tony put into his playing, but what is missing spoils it for me. You just shouldn’t go around fucking up perfection. I’ve listened to this song for almost 50 years now. It’s like an old lover.. I know how it feels, I know every nook and cranny. I was able to close my eyes and truly enjoy this. It makes me me feel good when I run across others that deeply appreciate the music of Genesis. And I’m sure that you appreciate the music because without such an appreciation you would not have taken the time to learn that piece in such beautiful, intricate, detail. Thanks so much for doing that. You only have 168 subscribers? If your other material is as good as this that’s a shame. You now have 169.

666 IS NO LONGER ALOOOOOONE HE'S GETTING OUT THE MARROW FROM YOUR BACKBONE AND THE SEVEN TRUMPETS BLOWING SWEET ROCK AND ROOOOOOLL
Tony Banks still after all these years is a miracle- how he came up with all that stuff. Fantastic. thanks for work und upload.
tony banks created that on the spot!
Rick Wakeman gaming
Nice work - I hear some problems especially at 1:47 - you’re playing a major chord where Tony played minor - all in all great
amazing. rivaled by only Mr Banks. would love to see you play FIrth of Fifth intro
Doesn't that Nord have percussion for the Hammond sound?
Nádhera-v originále to Tony Banks.
Brilliant love that song, it is epic the way it builds classic prog, well played sir, skillfull
Excelent work. Enhorabuena, maestro.
You've got that song down pat. 10+
Marvellous
Bada$$ dude. Well done
Fuck yea nice job man
Well played maestro
❤
Bravo!
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍💯
Great sound!
It was alright that ;-)
666 is no longer alone!
30 years later that time signature still confuses the hell out of me lol
Guitarist of note (pun intended) & youtube instructor here. Try counting out the 9 beats like this: (1 2 3) 1 (1 2) 1 (1) 1 Tap it out with your right hand doing the beats in parenthesis (which form a pattern of 3 beats then 2 beats then 1 beat) and with your left hand doing the single beats (which fall on 4, 7, and 9). Hope that’s helpful!
Same!
Best genesis solo

The finest art of MisterSparks playing Genesis' Apocalypse in 9/8, absolutely an immortal song ever!
Great job! Did you use a midi file for the background or did you compose t?
Compose it, I mean.
@@luvjammin04 It was a midi file I grabbed from the internet :-)
WOW. This has to be the best - the best - way to really appreciate the genius of Tony Banks. Excellent!! Thanks for sharing YOUR talents as well. Gracious amigo!!!
Apocalypse in 9/8 has got to be THE most amazing piece ever!!!!!
One of the best solos from Mr Banks, also rhythmically complex, because drums play odd pattern
@@awaken77 And on top of that, what age were the members of Genesis when they wrote that masterpiece?! 20 something! Try get a 20 something year old these days to come up with a piece like that!!
@@alanlucas501 Different times for sure, and when writing music was real song craft. But I also think even then this was coming out of a very British cultural experience. I don’t think this would have come from American musicians very readily.
Nice job! But crappy? That's my MIDI file you're complaining about! I suppose you learned all these keyboard parts from my MIDI file too? haha
Dude, it's my tweaking that was crappy! I imported it to a Korg Kronos and used a bunch of stock sounds. Your MIDI file was foundational to learning this song.
@@MarkGlenning I was just kidding. I hope that was clear :)
@@sgoodwinca Ah, you big kidder you ;-)
Very well played.
Nicely done, thanks for sharing:-)
You may have gotten some Hammond harmonics wrong in the latter parts, but you have the amazing capacity to play Banks' parts! This is outstanding! I wish that I had the gift of your right hand! You're amazingly talented!
Whoa! High praise indeed! Thank you :-)
@@MarkGlenning I sure wish that I had your dexterity!
Gracias, grandiosa interpretación y grandioso tema de Génesis.
That was AMAZING!!! EXCELLENT!!!
Frickin' Great !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Foxtrot is my favourite Genesis and I thought you played it brilliantly. The organ sound was pretty good too.
You did a great job!! Tony Banks would be proud !!
Excellent 👍😎
