Which country is this please? Driving on the left 👌
South Australia
id love to give it a thousand thumbs up what a truck and its wounderful engine and running gear great video chaps
where is the redline on these engines
2,100 rpm
They just sound so dirty... Naughty... It's like unbelievable sound, when you compare it to the "normal" 6- and 8-cylinder 4-stroke truck engines. Sounds like it revs 10000rpm and way beyond <3
Wow she's a beautiful old girl with the best sounding 12v71 that i have ever heard!!!!
Stunning ta for sharing ,is she still working and what region ?
Hasn't worked for a long time Rob, retired and preserved, Mount Gambier.
Thats a13 speed with a couple of million on it!!!
It’s not a Cummins !!! drive it to slow changing down and up but I’m no expert anyway just going by the 8V92 I had the pleasure of driving for a while Awesome 😎 truck 💪💪
Doesn’t the high pitched noise get a bit much on a long haul?
ear-plugs are the answer
Hi Jacobs Pa im a good friend with jacob how are you doing sub to me and i like your truck
Old Kenworth W's and B Model Macks , dead set legendary trucks, awesome video and beautifully presented rig mate.
Fine Kenworth with a great engine just pulling away ,, theres a lot of hills down your way ,plenty of hard pulling dont mind the box whining , most of the trucks would be groaning with up around 70 ton ,she is 50 years old and flying , great project its like brand new with a lovely set of trailers ,, greetings from ireland
Nice rig. Where is it now? I thought a b-double prime mover had to have abs? Did they have that in 69? Maybe it’s an everywhere but SA thing.
Can't drive it like a Cummins or Cat. Rev that bitch up
Gotta love that upshift bark
Those trailers look almost as heavy as the logs.
More video's like this
Their are drive on the wrong side of the road
It is funny how the old Detroit diesels sound so strong and tough, but they were not very high in horsepower compared to the new truck engines. I still like the older trucks much better as far as looks go.
typical Detroit, say hill and they lose 25 mph. It can't even pull a hill.
were kenworths only sold in north america and australia?
This is in South Australia.
Mexico Australia United states Canada
Good old American steel, Love them old school screamin Detriots!!! Detriot Deisel was a division of General Moters. Do they have manufactering plants over there? Thanks for sharing.
For what reason is the bonnet extended? Is the V12 much longer as a "Big Cam" for instance? Greetings
the big cam is basically a smaller KT, and I believe the KT and the 12v71 both required extended hoods
A.T. you will find there is still one KW up there with the extended cowl, I sent the owner a few photos a couple of years back, he is intending to restore his..i missed meeting him at the Yakima ATHS display in 2013.
I remember a few Petes and KWs with 12V71s here in Alaska with extended cowls (standard length hood with a 10 or 12 inch spacer between the hood and firewall to accommodate the added length of the V-12) - havent seen an extended cowl in many years though. Ive put a fair amount of time in a truck but I dont think Id be worth much shifting a 13 speed with my left hand. My truck has a Spicer 1241 auxiliary in it also. Plan to rebuild it this spring - 30 years of service with nothing more than a few oil seals and some shims removed isnt bad. Beautiful old truck, thanks for posting.
Did you rebuild it?
+IDreamOfDragons O Yeah we did the aux trans and both rears - they didnt look bad either, those Rockwells are tough muthahs!
+Alaska trucker I bet they are my dad rebuilt a 10 speed Eaton transmission a while back. it was difficult to sync the gears.
Sorry meant b double
Beuutiful hearing those detroits in action. Seeing that tritrain on the back where is that south oz or tazzie. The roads look a bit like godzone mainland.
Awesome
a bit late on the game but to the guys talking about running the high rpms hard, these motors run at high rpms, most 12v71 and 8v92 motors run at 2300 rpm
He realy should not be letting her dy down that low in the rev range ..keep her up 24./2800 after all they are a 2 stroke .
Geeze I thought youd wreck that pretty truck drveing wrong side of road didnt know K woppers had steering wheels on right im learning every day...Metal teamster is right you need to rev it its not a cummins or a cat its a caaaaaat killer! son dont clog up those injecters!
All kidding aside, much respect to the mechanics who rebuilt this beautiful monster. In general, mechanical aptitude is an art-form that is dying with each passing generation. Sad eh?
I find that ludicrous as someone who grew up around machines. They are so god dam interesting.
That is nucking futs, get on the right side of the road before you kill someone! Are you crazy or just Canadian?
Nah mate, Australian the blokes with BALLS
Nice Truck!!! Like to see more trucks like that one.
beautyfull truck
She sounds great, but me thinks you need to twist that fuel screw just a tad!
Mike you have to go back to the start of comments to see why.
Sounds like its lugging a tad ? Only driven an 8V92 for a spin ..
LHD version is BOSS!
Oh alright.
OH duh yea its your truck so I guess you do understand LOL. It sure is a real sweet classic. Thanks for keeping the old iron alive.
It shouldnt. However I did have one in an old 69 freightliner cabover that would really sing in 13th OD. when I tore it apart I found all the OD main and countershaft gears had some real pitting to them. After replacing those it was smooth as silk and quiet as can be. So yes it is possible it could be the tranny but in all my years I find that to be highly unlikely. If you ever spent any time driving an old detroit you would understand how loud the blower wine can be at high end.
That explains it well Jeremy, thank you.. That old 13 speed does make a fair whine though.
That way they can design the turbo to spin faster at lower engine rpms and reduce the low end turbo lag. down side is it will overspeed on the high rpm side and now the need for a waste gate to controll turbo turbine speed. this old beast just wont have that as its not supercharged in the first place.
A engine of that vintage wont have a waste gate. On a diesel engine there is no such thing as over supercharging. A waste gate is usually only used on gas engines to keep them from over supercharging and causing pre ignition. A diesel just dosent care and the more you can stuff to it the better. They have only recently started using waste gates on truck turbos to controll the turbo speed and keep the turbo from over reving.
I know but I just needed to have it confirmed if it was the Supercharger or the gearing or could have been an external waste gate. Those will whine like that too when making the low end pressure.
That’s the sound of the blower. Roots type blowers are extremely loud.
You can time them on the B setting and the EX valves will close before the INT ports and then yes it will be supercharged BUT! the problem then being is that since only about 2 inches of the CYL liner has cooling water to it they just cannot take the heat and can burn the heck up pretty fast.
That’s not necessarily true. Just because it has a blower does not mean it’s supercharged. The definition of supercharged is the pressure in the cylinder at time it starts to compress is higher than atmospheric pressure hence supercharged. Since in a Detroit the exhaust valves closes after the intake ports are covered there is no way to supercharge it. A blower is mandatory as it has no intake stroke. A turbo just unloads the parasitic load of the blower and you gain about 50 hp.
Not accurate either
@@Hitman-ds1ei yea spare me ive heard it all before.

All 2cycle detroits are supercharged and they can be both if it has a turbo
I already got my Answer :) But yeah I was just wondering wether if it was supercharger, the waste gate or the gears.
Both turbo and supercharged
