Hi Anne, wrong type of brush. Affinity Photo uses Raster brushes, the same as in Photoshop. Affinity Designer uses Vector brushes, the same as in Illustrator. So you need to do a search for Illustrator brushes and make sure they are vector and not raster. A Raster brush puts down color as a batch of pixels, a Vector brush puts down color as an outline and fill.

You're welcome. I wish that Adobe hadn't removed the option from the opening window to choose how you wanted to have PSE open. My guess is that they wanted the chance to show advertisements on that welcome screen pitching the newest version. They don't make money if people don't upgrade. My business has the same problem.

Remini is a great AI tool but they hide the fact that it is subscription based and costs $180 a year. People use Photoshop Elements because it costs less than $100 and it is not subscription based. I see Remini as a better option for Adobe Photoshop users, not Elements users.

I agree. I like Affinity Photo for photo work and Photoshop Elements for the more creative stuff. Since I upgrade every year anyway the 3 year license doesn't affect me, and I usually recommend upgrading at least every 3-5 years anyway to keep up with the operating system updates. You are right, Adobe doesn't care much about resource use, this has always been a problem with their programs.

Not too much that can be done with unsharp photos. All sharpening filters do is to look for edges and increase the contrast at those edges. They don't really sharpen images, just trick the eye into believing they are sharper. Without using AI there is no way to add back in detail that isn't there in the photo.

No, you can't change the size of the Option bar, but you can hide it. Click on the Tool Options button again to hide it. That button is basically an on/off button. Or click the down arrow on the right side of the panel.

In the Print dialog box, in the Select Paper Size, set it to 8x10 and put a check next to Crop to Fit. That should give you the best print quality from this trick.

Hi Rich, the Sharpen tool is newer than the Unsharp Mask and usually gives better results.

The more tricks you know the better the end result will be. This is basically a clone stamp technique, just speeds things up a bit with the selection trick.

You are right, but then this video is for people who own PSE, not people who own anything else.

@@HTGPhoto Yes that is sensible. In fact I do own and use PSE, if mostly for the organizer which I find fairly helpful. However, for any serious editing I always pop into ON1. I think if you poll active photographers, you'll probably find that many of them own multiple editing products, since certain aspects of the workflow may be better supported by one or the other. @@NeilWNC True, I use5 different programs myself. The channel though focuses on PSE and Affinity Photo mostly. I used to do videos for Lightroom and Photoshop on my other channel but didn't get enough views to keep those going.

I agree. Adobe is raising prices and adding in license limits on all of their software. I think they are in financial trouble, looking to get every dollar they can.

Thanks Rich! I think a lot of the terminology in AP is to protect against copyright claims from Adobe. Too bad these companies can't just play nice.

Thanks! Inpaint is better for larger areas or things like scratches and phone lines. The patch tool is for larger areas and it lets you chose where you want to copy from, so it is more like the clone tool. The blemish tool is like Inpaint but is very fast for small areas and spots, usually all that is needed for skin retouching. The clone tool is the oldest of the tools, it lets you manually copy from one area to another. I like the Clone tool for larger areas where I need perfect control of what is being cloned. They can all be used for all repairs, but do to their differences one tool will work better than another for a specific job.

PSE hasn't had a curves adjustment tool for years. There is one called Color Curves in the Enhance Menu under Color but it doesn't allow you to move the curves and it really is a Lighting adjustment and not a Color adjustment. There is a Curves tool in the Elements+ plugin.

Thanks Sparkle.s! I really appreciate the support by getting my PSE coaching program, that is how I can afford the time to do this UA-cam channel. I use a bunch of different graphics programs including the complete Adobe Creative Suite, the Affinity Suite, CorelDRAW, BlockBench 3D modeling, and several others. The Affinity Photo looked like a good fit for this channel for people who are looking for a more powerful program than PSE but don't want to pay for a subscription to Adobe Photoshop. I also like the Affinity Publisher and Designer programs but not sure if anyone is interested in training for those. Maybe at some point I will add videos and courses for those anyway.

This is not their only money grab. Starting in January their Adobe Photography plan with Photoshop and Lightroom goes up 50%. I am guessing that they have been losing money and are trying to get that back by raising prices a lot.

@@HTGPhotoif they are losing money, and raising prices to recoup, then it’s a recipe for disaster. I don’t think filing for bankruptcy will break any hearts.
