    Who else would love to see the original novel adapted into a comic book? Once illustrators modify Nicole's looks to resemble the novel's description of Suzanne, the writers can combine the perks of the film adaptation with everything omitted from the novel.

    I enjoy both versions. It's repulsive that Mel thought he was too important, too big to be killed in a film. Any film. He'd logged a number of questionable quality films with some unflattering performances. I enjoy both versions but his unwarranted attitude made his death-scene far more satisfying than the happily-ever-after version.

      I agree. I believe this is a common weakness among humans. When people achieve fame, it's difficult for them to maintain a humble perspective, myself included. 😊 This can be observed in many top stars, such as Dwayne Johnson.

    • @Cbcw76
      @Cbcw76 18 днів тому

      @@SilverScreenCritique Dwayne Johnson won me over (a considerable feat since I loathe TV wrestling) with his kiddie films, never his action ones. I like those, too, but his RUNDOWN (2003) and RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN (2007) still earn rewatchings. I can't say the same for any of the once favored LETHAL WEAPON films because of the personality that Mel revealed. Mel's insertion into a film now means we likely won't watch it.

    It always reminded me of the Carlos Castaneda books about peyote and it's ancient use. There was a large debate in the 1960s over mind-altering vs mind-expanding chemicals, and aren't these are simply 'keys' to unlock what's already in the brain? So why not create your own keys and skip the chemicals? Which is the conclusion of this film, forty years after Castaneda's ... and Kesey's...

    Have you seen 1952's THE SNIPER with Arthur Franz as the crazed PTSD-type sniper with a strong hatred of women (and who is working for a fairly loathesome shrew)? DIRTY HARRY is a rip-off of this tale but - I caution - "rip off" is NOT a negative term. This is more like the flip-side of a rip-off. In THE SNIPER, the city has a considerable population of WWII vets and a good many are Pacific War vets who experienced a far higher level of cruelty and scenes of barbarity than the European war vets did. And the film's socio-political awareness of PTSD episodes has the police efforts considering "treatment" rather than killing this unstable person. That's the 'flip side' that DIRTY HARRY exploits twenty years year. DIRTY HARRY wins all the points for memorable casting and performances. Andrew Robinson is certainly more 'memorable' in his viciousness than Arthur Franz, and Dirty Harry's police bosses (Harry Guardino, 'Mayor' John Vernon, 'Professor' Josef Sommer, 'Police Chief' John Larch) are infinitely more indelible in their roles than Adolphe Menjou, Gerald Mohr and Frank Faylen are in theirs.

    • @Cbcw76
      @Cbcw76 19 днів тому

      Also, consider the societal changes from 1952's post-WWII world vs. 1972's. I think DIRTY HARRY's stark display vs THE SNIPER could have been a constributing factor for Don Siegal and Clint to continue the series - in particular with #2 and #3 films.

    A year later... I rate this film much higher and good for rewatching because all those "slow parts" (which I found the self punishment/torture, loud music scenes) to be easily spotted and skipped over. "Thanks!" Every film has slow parts which become obvious on rewatching but not all of them make those easy to skip over, and some force continued viewing by including a few important points. These, in THE ACCOUNTANT, do not. Skip away! So I rate it higher for rewatchability. My one complaint has been the sequel - this film sets up the sequel's possibilities so clearly, and then has been 8 years before production has been announced. Gag - what is this? WORLD WAR Z or what?!!

    In the three years after the murders of President John F. Kennedy and Lee Harvey Oswald, eighteen material witnesses died. Six by gunfire, Three in motor accidents Two by suicide One by a cut throat One by a karate chop to the neck Three by heart attack and two by natural causes. An actuary utilized by the Sunday London Times concluded that the odds of these eighteen witnesses from 11/22 1963 ending up deceased by February 1967 were one hundred thousand trillion to one.

      @@SilverScreenCritique His only mistake was focusing too much on the New Orleans cell that included David Ferrie, Clay Shaw, Oswald, and Guy Bannister. They were important but they were only a small part of the Conspiracy. He should have spent more time on LBJ, Ruby, the Secret Service, Hoover, Allen Dulles, Ruth Paine and Dealey Plaza. The Crime Scene was Stolen from Parkland Hospital, along with JFK's body which held the keys to the Cover-up.

    • @SilverScreenCritique
      @SilverScreenCritique Місяць тому

      @@DavidArbuckle-sc8zc Very true, but we should remember that he bought the rights to Jim Garrison's book. Naturally, if I spend my own money on someone's book, my focus would center around that, especially if I invite the author to be part of my film. Overall, I agree with you-he should have delved deeper and expanded on the aspects you mentioned, such as LBJ, Ruby, the Secret Service, Hoover, Allen Dulles, Ruth Paine, and Dealey Plaza. However, as a director, he also had to consider the audience's response. If people find it challenging to watch a three-hour film, extending it further might not be feasible. That said, perhaps some scenes in New Orleans and other less critical parts could have been trimmed. Anyway, I'm not Oliver Stone, and I truly respect him as one of the greatest directors of all time. Thank you for your insightful comment; I look forward to more of your contributions, not just because comments help my videos, but because I genuinely enjoy conversing with knowledgeable people like yourself! 😊

    • @DavidArbuckle-sc8zc
      @DavidArbuckle-sc8zc Місяць тому

      @@SilverScreenCritique I am actually amazed how much Oliver Stone got right. Jim Garrison naturally was focusing on New Orleans. and there was plenty there. I just think you could practically do an entire book or movie about Dealey Plaza, Parkland and Bethesda, and the Paine's. The bullets alone is enough to fill several chapters. One of the things the Apologists are fond of saying is that all fragments and bullets trace back to Oswald's gun. Which seems odd, when they only have "one" bullet. Actually they had more bullets than what were fired from Oswald's gun. (#399, the Jerrol Custer bullet from Bethesda Hospital, the Paul Landis bullet that Nurse Phyllis Hall corroborated over 10 years ago, the bullet in the grass filmed being discovered and picked up and placed in a pocket of an unidentified man in a suit, the bullet that hit Tague, and yet another bullet that was discovered by a Custodian married to head Nurse Wright.) The Conspirators managed to get rid of all of them and decided to keep only #399 for evidence. Which was the most suspicious and is linked to Secret Service Agent Sam Kinney.

    He put flesh, bone and soul into Ian Fleming's creation and 62 years later and five other actors, he is still the one to be compared to. He had famous disagreements with the Bond producers to the point of hatred but as time passed he succumbed to the fact that as he said himself "Bond is with me till I go in the box". Well Sean has passed away now and the world is a sadder place without him but for me the answer is...... Yes he was James Bond 007 in The Rock
