I love pets... especially dogs. But I don't really understand the pet craze, unless you are an old person with no children in the house. Even then it needs limitations. Pets have been an interesting conversation this past year. My wife's family is quite close to their pets, and at the time (late dating, mid engagement stage) she had a lovebird and a little street dog, both 15 years old. Both died this year, the bird dying actually the weekend that Jonathan Pageau and Fr. Maximos Constas visited our Parish. I think pets are very important because they remind us of death, but there's a huge temptation to let our affection for pets rob us of life.

Lord have mercy. I live in a major city where I see this all the time now. My wife and I have four children with one on the way. We’re seen as the weirdos. But dogs in strollers are wonderful.
