Mozart Sonata K. 331, theme and 2 variations for cello duet
Переглядів 3 тис.3 роки тому
Now in our third lockdown here in Melbourne..today I was looking back at some videos I made during the second lockdown last year and came across this little duet attempt of one of my favourite Mozart Piano Sonatas. I think I eventually abandoned the project as I got caught up in other things and so it never made it onto my channel. Well.. here it is with a few variations! As I listen back now I...

Piatti Caprice no. 11 tutorial

This is a special tutorial because it was recorded in Bergamo, Italy - Piatti's hometown! I was here for a few days to perform a recital of all twelve caprices in the Sala Piatti. An unforgettable experience! Luckily I found some time to record another tutorial in my hotel room. Enjoy! Follow Richard on: instagram @richard.narroway and facebook at rnarrowaycello

Beautiful! 😍
Both a great player and teacher! Thank you soooooooo much!!!
Super Richard Your playing is super .I would like to know that what is the exact height for the "G" and "D " string A and C is mentioned in the sights
I can’t find the feuillard shifting exercise ?? It’s not the number 7 in my version 😢 has someone found it ?
Awesome video! What's the speed (metronome marking) that you would consider appropriate for this caprice?
11:27 yo, my man with the thumb!
Is it just me not gettinh it? It's called mute, but the instrument remains quite loud to me.
Why do you do that with your fingers in Piatti ? 2:34
Espero q si me sirvan y llegar al nivel de técnica que tienes de verdad respeto mucho los consejos que diste y valoro muchísimo la información
If you're traveling or live in a region with changing weather conditions particularly humidity changes, 2 reliable digital hygrometers (I use one outside case and one inside case) and a set of strettos, dampits or boveda humidity packs is essential to prevent fractures especially below 30% humidity. Ideally 40-70% humidity should be maintained. I always keep the cello in the case when I'm not playing as it's a safe, controlled environment. On the topic of keeping a cloth to wipe dust/rosin off the cello and strings, I keep a dedicated cloth to clean off rosin from fingerboard and strings and a separate cloth for wiping the cello varnish. You don't want to use a cloth with rosin dust to wipe the cello varnish.
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great advice!!!
Very helpful, thank you
Did anyone find the bow Sevcik he was talking about?
❤❤❤❤❤❤
Oh ! That's David Gulpilil.
Mozart was a hairy bugger wasn't he ?🙃
Great video - excellent job! Love not only the really great playing and thoughtfulness, but also the calm, relaxed delivery! 👍
Play the whole thing!
I've listened to this many times, no doubt it was a lot of effort. I just wanted to say thank you, it is absolutely beautiful.
Sounds like Bjorn Nordenstrom in B C E C
Sounds like Bjorn Nordenstrom if it were music, love it❤
Doesn't anyone pay attention to how this piece is actually written? The lower notes are eighths, not sixteenths. It's supposed to be a study in partial double stops.
Maybe you are wrong in your interpretation!
@@celia2726 I'm just going by what Piatti wrote. He didn't write it all in sixteenths.
@@thebadcellist wouldn’t it have to be slurred as well for that bowing to work then?
@@celia2726 The more important fact is that the bottom line is eighth notes, not sixteenth. For example, see the first measure of the Sarabande of Bach's Fourth Suite. Bach himself did not put any slurs in the Suites at all, but every edition I've seen has the quarter notes unslurred over the lower dotted half E-flat. It's obviously meant to be played all on one bow.
@@thebadcellist I see what you mean and that’s definitely worth consideration. I am still curious as to how you would play it - would you switch every second eighth note or slur the first six? He also wrote an exercise for practicing the etude where you slur all of the notes
Hello! Just want to say your tutorial helps me a lot!! Can i know if your 1st finger is supposed to hurt to play double stops?
Bravo Richard! I appreciated all your videos and I've found them very useful to reconnect myself to the Capriccios after 20 years of not practicing them at all!! please let me know if you came again in Italy, it would be a pleasure to meet you. Ciao!
How do I do the collé part 😭 I’ve been struggling for an hour plz help
I've made weird connections between cycling and cello technique in the past. Funny how that can happen.
Definitely the W mute.
You sound so much like Elon musk in the way you speak but its all cello and music related xD
Very few discussions on how to practice the piece...thanks for the generous sharing! 😘👍
I've been using your exercises for the last couple of months. Today I surprised myself! I improved more in 2 months than I have the last 10 years since I studied cello at the university and I'm not doing all of them. Appreciate your help very much! Unfortunately, there aren't any good cello teachers around here.
How fun! Your thinking out of the box to share with others is terrific!
Please make more content like this😊
5:55 WHAT IS THAT MELODY. No but fr you make your cello sound so beautiful, meanwhile I make any cello sound terrible 😅😭
thank you so much this. I just did Colle practice a week and my bow feel much secure and improve my spicato skill
I bought my first cello this week. I saved this video to watch ... later. Thanks!
When I play the first exercise it sounds squeeky & squawky. I have to lift my index finger off the Bb to play it. Also, the bottom notes, changing strings from III to II. They sound squeeky and squawky at the frog. Not used to playing so many notes at the frog. I just have to play the exercise a lot slower than you do to get a quality sound. I'm playing with very slight, relaxed motion in my wrist. No problem on the other exercises. The first one is the one that gives me the most headaches.
Awesome, thanks ❤
Awesome thanks ❤
What ipad model or type do you use or recommend? I like to copy and enlarge my sheet music (especially when learning a new piece) so I can see an editor's printed tiny fingerings. I also like to put my music stand further away (more one side) rather than directly in front of me so enlarging the music helps me see those tiny printed 😮2s and 3s fingerings or when the lighting is not so great Also how do you change pages in a performance setting when using an ipad?
Thank you so much! I loved it! I'm definitely going to incorporate these into my practice. I've been playing cello for 35 years. I took 4 years at the university (in Spanish) and played in the symphony after I retired. The university was taken over and they did away with orchestra programs & lessons for the public. There are no outstanding cello teachers around for 100+ miles. I'm getting up in age and have great difficulty (lack of health & energy) to practice both cello & advanced piano every day. I appreciate this very much!! Please give us more!!
your right hand is pretty like a tree branch 😂😂😂 You can not broke your wrist like that 🙈
Thank you Richard! This list made me feel good, as I have all of the same essentials scepter for the gauge! I also use a simple scrubby that you would have in the kitchen. A few swipes over the string and it really helps to clean the strings!
Super
Thank you for sharing your technique it was very intriguing. It reminded me of Andre Navarra's black & white videos in French. Would it be too much to hope that you remake similar kind of video in English and easier version for the beginners if you can find time. Thanks Much!
the pure cello only performance moves me soooooooooooo much. so graceful~ thank you .
God bless you for this beautiful music in a befitting place. hope to hear more of your songs in many beautiful surroundings around the world.
such a lovely performance ~ thank you
