Martin OM21, Eastman E6OM, Guild OM140 - small body acoustic guitars!
Переглядів 8 тис.2 роки тому
OM body size acoustic guitar comparison video. Martin, Eastman and Guild solid body OM/000 size guitars. All guitars had new strings - D'Addario Light 12-53 Phosphor Bronze. Recorded through Iphone - with same distance from all guitars. No external effects or EQ - I just balanced the clip volumes slightly. The Eastman is a 000. So it’s a short scale. The tc version of the Eastman is less expensive than the Martin and guild and better than both.
I would pick the Martin OM-21 if I had the money and needed another OM , however I am not needing one … lol … but the Guild is a great guitar for the price point too, although I thought the Eastman won out on tone against the Guild , both were great guitars. The wider string spacing people are asking about only makes it easier for finger style type playing and shouldn’t have any impact on tone .
OM isnt a small body, 0 is.
true - but as people tend to see dreadnought as the standard size of acoustic guitar, then the om or 000 becomes a smaller bodied guitar in comparison. Just wish I had a collection of 0 and 00 to compare these ones to!
Hi do you happen to recall the difference in neck shape between all 3 guitars? Thanks, keep up good videos!
hey, @only1cel sorry for slow reply. The Martin has the slimiest neck, (bit Strat like) the Eastman is more of handful with thicker D shape. And the Guild is in-between in terms of thickness but wider so feels much bigger. They are all very similar string spacing at nut but Guild has wider spacing at the bridge - which makes a massive difference.
Great playing. Love your style. Eastman takes this one. Warm and balanced with lovely depth and an element of soul. The OM-21 is Rosewood so obviously has that classic scooped mids and complexity and wins when capo'd at the 4th fret. The Guild has a very interesting tone that transcends traditional guitar tone for some reason, possibly related to a different setup, i.e. wider nut slots maybe?
yes the guild has much wider string spacing so can't help but wonder how that effects the tone. It can be quite hooky when strummed hard but works great finger style.
This was really helpful! Good job playing in different ways on each guitar which can help to hear how each pickup sounds in different situations. I would, also, lean towards the K&K Pure Mini in regards to tone, but do you ever find the lack of a "volume" or "tone" leaving you wanting? Maybe not so much for the tone since it sounds so good, but how about the volume? Or, can you just a get a pedal of some kind of that? Sorry, I had electric guitars back in the day, but for the acoustic-electric world, I'm not as knowledgeable.
Hi @JoMaMaz the lack of volume is a bit of an issue - but not a massive problem. I find usually I just want to mute the guitar in-between songs or when tuning and so easiest solution is just a pedal tuner, as most will mute signal when on. And in most situations that is more than fine. I do use pre-amp pedal sometimes which gives me volume and one control, but it's not essential
@@anologuesignal6365 Thanks for responding! :) I thought I had to buy the ENTIRE K&K Pure Mini Kit with Volume Control to get the volume control wheel because a website chat response told me that, BUT, I was able to find the volume control wheel sold separately for about $46! :D I ordered it, and I ordered two Pure K&K Mini with Volume Control full setups for my other two acoustics. :)
@@JoMaMaz I didn't even know they had volume option so that is good find out. I might be moving to K&k for the Martin so will get volume one
@@anologuesignal6365 Yeah, I only found out when looking for a couple acoustics that have no electronics, currently. Definitely raises the K&K pickup even higher on people's lists, I would assume. The K&K Pure Mini sounds great in my Martin 000-15SM!
Great demo thanks!
I ordered a BEAUTIFUL Guild Om260ce yesterday on sale at guitar center. Solid spruce top, Solid flamed mahogany sides and arched back! $579!
Sounds like a great guitar and a great deal! They look amazing and having cutaway is so useful
Guild Eastman Martin in that order to my ears preference. Close on the Eastman and Guild. I’m a huge Martin fan, but not impressed
That Guild is incredible, and only $750-$800.
On sale right now, marked down from 700 to 579
The Martin is about 3x the price of the Eastman. I have an OM-21, and an Eastman E6OM-TC. It's also Rosewood back and sides, the others mahogany.
That’s tough , I am leaning towards the k&K , followed by lrbags as a close second
K&K is a really simple solution but I like the sound of lrbaggs a little more as it has inbuilt eq and slight compression which is just great for those gig's where you turn up and plug into someone else's PA
I have two different guitars, one with a K&K Pure Mini, and the other with an LR Baggs VTC. I felt that the K&K Pure Mini sounds more "pure;" whereas, the LR Baggs VTC has a little more of that 90's nostalgic acoustic-electric tone. It's better than the old school stuff, and half of my family voted for the LR Baggs, so, it's subjective, but I thought the K&K sounded better. You can now get a volume control wheel option, also! :)
@@JoMaMaz I think you might be right about the 90's acoustic tone from VTC, maybe that's why I like it!
@@anologuesignal6365 🙂👍
Martin: $3000 Eastman: $1100 Both fabulous guitars but this is not a difficult choice. Nice demo.
so i guess you mean the guilt by that ?
Great rational🙏🙏
fingers: Guild - 0:32 Eastman - 3:42 Martin - 7:56 Pick: Guild - 1:00 Eastman - 4:30 Martin - 8:40 Capo: Guild - 1:34 Eastman - 5:22 Martin - 9:37 Capo hard strum: Guild - 2:38 Eastman - 6:27 Guild - 10:40
The lick sequence with capo seems a great exercise :D Great playing, Bro!
thank you so much!
☑️ thanks , small bodied instruments are the best , have the Eastman E6OM-TC a gem ❗️☻️🙃😊
yes I wish I'd be able to get the thermo cured top - such great guitar!
I also had the E10OM previously , honestly TC does not sound any better , but it has the nice golden hue aged look ; I bought it mostly for the warmer Sitka top as opposed to the punchy Adirondack ☻️
👌👌👌👌
I've got one also just an amazing guitar
One of the best demos I’ve heard. Great playing!
thank you very much!
Good démo. For me 1 Guild 2 Martin 3 eastman
Thanks for the comparison of three very nice guitars. I unfortunately can't afford any of these fine guitars but if I could I think it would be a tough decision between the Guild and the Martin. I hope you do some more videos. Cheers from Australia.
G'day mate. Am I your first subscriber, if so I'm honoured. I'm kinda checking out a few OMs. I was checking out the Eastman you played initially. Of these 3, which did you find the easiest,/nicest to play? Which brought out the best in your routine? I really like your capoed section of the routine. Bravo! Can you also tell me your preference in terms of scale length?
Hi Tom, thanks for being my first subscriber! The Eastman and the Martin are both super easy to play. I like the longer scale length as lots of the tunes I play are capoed so slightly easier with longer scale length. I love the pickup in the eastman so it's a go to for live - and it can take a bit more heavy strumming than the Martin. Hope that helps
