How to tune a Floyd Rose bridge - for newbies
Переглядів 76 тис.4 роки тому
How to tune a Floyd Rose bridge - for newbies
Thanks
That was freaking awesome I just got a Jackson v didn't get how to tune it 😂 after this video I'm no longer a Floyd rose virgin
Does this same strategy work for changing tunings? (For example: Drop C# to Standard)
Nope, your bridge has to be set up for that exact tuning...you don't want to change the tuning without adjusting the claw (which is what tightens or loosens the springs) and getting it properly set up first. It's not rocket science but definitely don't try that unless you want to rip your hair out or spend forever attempting to get it back to the tuning you started with. On a Floyd (at least a floating one) you can't just change tunings on the fly without a problem, that's just how they work. Floating bridges period.
Thank you, great tutorial for FR tremolo tuning. Just got an EVH Frankenstrat and I was clueless!
Glad it helped!
Bro holy shit tysm ive been avoiding to tune my evh wg cuz its my first and i was scared. But This video helped sm ty n im surprised i didnt fail 😅
Thanks for the video dude. Ima go play Megadeth songs now.
You're most welcome, glad it helped! 🤘🤘
Finally video ive been looking for
Glad it helped! It's really simple, but if you don't know what to do it seems difficult. Long as it's properly set up you should have 0 problems. 🤘🤘
Dude thank you 🙏 just got a Jackson had no idea what I was doing and broke my A string 😅 rookie mistake you taught me the proper way to tune now I know
I meant Jems whoops!
That's a badass guitar, Ibanez are my favorite asian guitars specially the Japanese models they all kick ass! I dig the arch top on yours! I mainly collect the signature models like the Jens and PGM's specially the ones from the 80's but have a few Prestige and a few of the mid range RG's. Cool review!
Thanks, this guitar is beyond most I've played in over 30 years. It's just flat out amazing in every way. I can't think of anything I dislike about it. I have 10 other Ibanez guitars and they're all badass but overall this is my best guitar I have currently. 🤘🤘
thank you so much
Glad it helped!
Exactly what I was looking for! Thank you
Glad it helped! 🤘🤘
Don't we need the tremolo arm?
Not absolutely necessary honestly. The trem will function without it, just easier to use with one.
Saving newbie lives in 2024.
Glad it helped! A Floyd if properly set up is easy to operate, just need someone who's familiar with them to guide you. 🤘🤘
She is the Female Colins ❤
Great performance 🎉
Thank you! 🙏
doesnt work for me, first four out of tune by a mile by the time i tune the B/E string.... i got a kramer pacer tiger stripe
didnt work.
Can you explain how you went about it? If your Floyd isn't properly set up then it won't get or stay in tune. Please elaborate.
Easiest video to follow ur the goat thank you so much
You're most welcome, thanks for tuning in and glad it helped!
Forget how to tune it, seeing the custom Eddie is where it's at
4 years later, it helped me so much! Thank you!
Thank You for this FR Newbie tuning post man ! I gust got my 1st ever Floyd,an EVH Wolfgand Stanadard. Your very straight forward, right to the point method leaves me no longer feeling over whelmed.
Everytime I move on to another pair, the pair I just tunes goes out of tune, I am going insane man
Is it possible to tune it to about where it needs to be without the high e? Im not able to get another string set right now and im wanting to tune up from c# standard to drop c so i think ill have to increase the tension in the back springs to account for tuning up, i just got my guitar and the high e immediately broke when i tried to do a bend 💀
Sorry for late reply! No it isn't possible, unless the bridge is blocked (meaning it doesn't float or flush mounted). You need all the strings on it at all times. Without one it'll never tune up (as long as it floats). Yes you would have to increase the spring tension to get the bridge to tune up properly from C# standard to drop C as there's a half step difference on every string. You can't just change tunings on the fly with a floating bridge because the string AND the spring tension HAS to be balanced for the system to work properly. Once you get it there it'll settle in, but if you're going to change it you have to readjust and allow time for it to settle into the new tension. Depending on what gauge of strings you'll be using you will have to adjust for that as needed (the action, neck, etc.) too. I'm guessing you likely figured it out by now but if not I hope this comment helped. Thanks for tuning in! 🙏🤘🤘
@SethWorsham thank you! Yes I did figure it out and I blocked the bridge and realized that it will stay in tune but I had to have different tension on the springs on the back since the tension wasn't symmetrical but the intonation was awful but it got the job done and I ended up actually figuring out that the tapped hole where the tightening screw goes in on the high e saddle was stripped and wouldn't hold the block against the string strong enough to keep it from slipping out so I'm getting a replacement. This was my first Floyd rose and I learned a lot and that ultimately it is extremely easy to tune it as long as the bridge is blocked both ways then tighten or loosen the tensioning springs in the back until the blocks fall out on their own or the strings are in tune then just give the micro tuners a little bit of an adjustment and that the only real issue is making sure the truss rod isn't out of wack
I broke string next to tuner cuz i didnt losen a nut, thank you for this tuturial
I have one and I’m the original owner. These guitars are amazing and have somewhat a unique neck profile. I think they called it the Viper neck. I was inches years ago to sell it to Guitar Center and they offered me 400 bucks. Thank god I didn’t do it. It’s a solid guitar. The production numbers are the big secret. I have a magazine article that said 150 P1’s were made. Don’t know how true that is. There’s no solid answer out there. They fetch a lot of money especially if you have the COA and the original case. Lots of owners lost the COA. Enjoy it
Just got my first this is incredibly helpful every other video like you said, goes into all sorts of lingo in detail and I was lost, you, rock man
Glad to help. My pleasure! 🤘🤘
I just got one and the nut is stripped what should I do
i have had a my s470 99 Korean... which i still play till today.... i however have heavily modified it by changing the pickuos with emg 81/89s plus a +20 db max gain knob on it....which i play through a ibanez toneblaster 100 2x12 amp....oh...and of course my boss gt-8 multi fx pedal... i also use only monster rock cables....gold tips....and there is absolutely no limit to any spectrum of producing so many levels of tones.... also...fun fact..im lefthanded and strung it in reverse....i originally wanted a s470L or a s370L...but could never find one... but this guitar is the most fantastic guitar ive ever had the joy to play....
They are amazing, glad you love yours so much!
Awesome tutorial and explainations on string changes and maintenance on floyd guitars! We love The Imperial Rifflord.
Awesome! Thank you!
We love Rifflord. Easy to understand, no bs, straight to the point. He rocks.
Thank you so much! I see so many videos that don't just get straight to the point. Much appreciated!
Amazing explanation! I have a question though, how would one go about setting up a Floyd Rose when putting on higher gauge strings? I have normal 9 gauge but I got the Heavy bottom skinny top strings and that’s a pack that has the thickest 3 strings a gauge .11 and the thinnest 3 strings .10. Since tension would be higher I would like to know how to adjust for that. Thank you!
You'd have to adjust the spring tension, since the heavier strings have a higher tension on them. I'm not a tech though, so giving advice on how to do it in just a comment even if I knew how wouldn't be enough. I'm sure there's plenty of videos on here showing in detail how to go about it. Just search for "changing string gauge on a Floyd Rose" or something close. Appreciate you checking out and thanks for the compliment! Best of luck.
What kind of room are you locked in 👶🎤🙏
Lesson room at my music store 😉🤘🤘
Thanks for the plug 🔌 I guess 😅
Any time!
perfect !! thank you !!
You're welcome!
can someone explain the purpose of leveling the fine tuners before tuning
It makes it so you have the same amount of adjustment for every string. I believe I mentioned that in the video. 🤘🤘
This is thee only video I can find that mentions the fine tuners. Exactly what I was looking for
Great video man, thank you!
You're most welcome! 🤘🤘
Put a block of wood in there and your tuning and stability issues are banished like dead leaves before an angry wind!
I used to have tremolo stabilizers in all my Floyds, the only advantage to them was when you broke a string you were reasonably still in tune and could at least finish the song before having to change it or swap guitars. They make the bridge super stiff and are very difficult to install however. I didn't believe a floating Floyd or bridge could actually stay in tune either, until I met a master tech who truly made a believer out of me regarding that. So yes you can block it but it's no longer fully functional. There's also the tremol-no and other products that are good for that. But if you have a junk/low quality Floyd it's pointless to bother with. Junk hardware gives you nothing but problems and instabilities especially with tuning. Most people think tuning one of these is some kind of task you need a degree in astro physics to accomplish and I truly don't understand why. It's VERY simple. Obviously a lot of people are still confused so I'm glad this video helped so many. If you don't need or use the tremolo I'd advise against getting one. Myself I don't use it that much even though I have a lot of guitars with this kind of bridge. It is great for what it allows you to do however. Vibrato on chords, extreme dives and raises, harmonics, spastic insanity, etc. To each their own but if it's that hard for you I have to guess it's one of a few things - 1) you're not doing it correctly (consult the video and see if you missed something) 2) your bridge isn't properly set up 3) you have a cheap Floyd and/or hardware. Anyway, best of luck. I find the most who complain about them don't take the time to learn how to properly operate and/or use them. 🤘🤘
@@SethWorsham yes on both accounts there- crappy dime dean razorback was on, the other was my first guitar- a Cort X-9. Licensed/knock off floyds-
I don't know where I'm going wrong but I've been trying to tune my floyd rose for exactly a week.
What does this video not help you with? Please explain.
I rewatch this video once a week
Hell yeah! Iron Fucking Maiden. Thank you for your tip on tuning a Floyd Rose floating tremolo.
Just bought my first Floyd and thank you for this video! I immediately went to tuning on the headstock and broke two strings lol
My first guitar was a white Kay starter series. I wish I still had it.
Thanks a lot 👍😁
This really was a big help. Thank you.
You're welcome! 🤘🤘
Thanks 🤘
No problem!
Thanks for the instructions. My uncle hooked me up with a Kramer that has a Floyd he bought it from some random chick at his store. It was tuned in B so I was trying to figure it out to have it on E standard tuning lol
Nice man! looks awsome that aged! i have 6 of them, and love these! enjoy the hell out of it man!
Wow, that's amazing! Do you have all 5 of them plus a duplicate of one?
@@SethWorsham yeah, i have all 5… and i have one now that i just got painted to the another day color because it was all messed up (long story short)😅 i light have a problem…🥲
To each their own but the best techs I've ever known swear by using steel wool to clean frets. So that's how I do it.
