France Passion: FREE CAMPING across France (over 2000 sites)
Join us in Part 4 of our 2024 European Road Trip, in this episode we explore the REAL side of France, staying with some wonderful France Passion hosts in our trusty camper van. From Vineyards in Cognac and Bordeaux, to goat farms in Limoges, goose farms in Perigord to oyster farms in Brittany, we show you some of the amazing places that are listed in this brilliant France Passion book that covers the whole country with over 2000 hosts waiting to welcome you.
All of the places we visit are FREE to camp, the majority of places you cannot book, you simply turn up. They are hosted on private land and there is absolutely no obligation to purchase anything, (although as we are British.....we always did :-)
One question we are asked often is how do we empty the loo and fill with fresh water using these kind of sites. Well some of the France passion sites actually have chemical waste disposal and water. More often than not they don't of course and in these situations we stop at a village or town en-route to use the facilities at a village aire, there are thousands of these aires in France (and they are usually free) we find these aires using the park4night app.
We thoroughly recommend France Passion to everyone, it's brilliant.
Books can be purchased online here
www.france-passion.com/en/
and delivered to your home, there's also a very useful app (and no, we are not sponsored by them in any way).
We hope you find this guide useful and enjoy your own trip around this wonderful country.

    Enjoyed watching your journey. I'm currently planning a motorhome trip around France, just ordered my France passion book. Is it a requirement to reserve a spot with the hosts ahead of time, or just show up the day you want to stay?

    • @wadskistravelchannel
      @wadskistravelchannel Місяць тому

      Hi 👋, you’ll absolutely love it 😊 When the book arrives you’ll see that 99% of the hosts do not require you to call ahead, you simply turn up. They often have time restrictions (such as please arrive before 7pm for example) of those we visited none asked us to call beforehand and we had no problem getting in. There’s a symbol next to each host stating how many vans they can accommodate and we always chose hosts with 2 or more spaces. There’s so many to choose from and they are reasonably close to each other so I I don’t think you’ll have any problems. Enjoy your trip and if you’re there end of September/October we may even see you there as well be heading that way ourselves too. Thank you for watching our videos. Sue and Steve 😎👋

    Lovely! We are huge fans of France! (We are Swedish). Spent 10 years of vacations in France, every summer, now. (Motorhome, caravan and car/hotel). This year we went to Italy - it was also very nice but next year we will go back to France again. Probably Normandie and Bretagne. We have no motorhome, at the moment, but we plan to buy something like yours in close future. (Big vans are not suitable for exploring the countryside in France). Thank you for your movie and the inspiration we got from it! France Passion seems to be something for us!!! Br, Johnny & Ewa

      @wadskistravelchannel 2 місяці тому

      Hi Simon, we’ve never owned a coach built so can’t comment on them really. All we can say is that the van suits us very well (for two people), it’s economical, goes down narrow roads with ease and is easy to maintain. When parked up we tend to sit outside anyway so to us, a larger vehicle would be more hassle. Hope this helps. Sue and Steve 🙂

    Hi Guys. We are really interested in your solar and lithium upgrades especially as we also have a Summit Prime 640 and would like to do something similar. We would love to hear how you get on using them in your latest European adventure and if you think it was worth doing.

    • @wadskistravelchannel
      @wadskistravelchannel 4 місяці тому

      Hi @janehirst2923, for us yes, absolutely 100% worth doing. We went for a 230ah underseat lithium battery (ecotree), plus an extra 2x 140 watt panels, all the electronics (Mppt controllers and B2B battery chargers etc) are victron. Everything was supplied by BlueFix in Hereford. It all sits neatly under the dining seat so you don’t see any wires or anything. The cost was just under 4K. We already had an EcoFlow Delta 2 so didn’t need an inverter fitting. The new leisure battery allows us to charge the EcoFlow too which is fab. We have been away 6 days so far and the battery hasn’t dropped below 91% yet and we’ve been using the electric kettle, air fryer and hair straighteners every day and of course the fridge is on 24/7. We have had the option of EHU but have declined as not needed. We’re in Spain currently though and it IS sunny. We could last maybe 2 days with the old 95ah battery fitted as standard so Lithium is a big improvement. If you want to message us privately (via Facebook) I can send you the breakdown of costs and some additional thoughts we have on the installation👍 Hope this helps. Sue and Steve

    • @wadskistravelchannel
      @wadskistravelchannel 6 місяців тому

      Hello @Gareth_NocturnaGarage, I honestly don't know. I guess it depends on how well they travel. We have three kids too (all grown up now) but I'm not sure I'd take them on this kind of trip as it was a lot of driving. Our kids needed constant attention when they were younger and wouldn't sit in the van for that long - but of course yours may be quite content to sit and look out of the window and not start crying. We didn't stop in any sites that were family friendly on this trip though and of course there's loads of family orientated sites in Spain and Portugal. I guess if you stayed in sites with swimming pools and other things to amuse them you'd be OK? Remember it's over 2000 miles round trip using the route we took. I think if we were taking a young family we'd probably book a site with pools and activities where we knew they'd enjoy it and use the main motorways in Spain to get there as quickly as possible. Hope this helps and thank you for watching our videos 😊 Sue and Steve

    I’m thinking a van rather than a coach build can I ask what you think please

    • @wadskistravelchannel
      @wadskistravelchannel 7 місяців тому

      We went for a van as heard horror stories of damp in several fairly new coach built. Damp should be less of a risk in a metal van. Downside is it’s not as big as Coachbuilt (width wise) so less inside, but a van is easier to drive and park. I guess there are pros and cons to all really. Van is certainly our preference but everyone has different needs I guess. Hope this helps. Sue and Steve

    Glorious weather, and as i mentioned in your previous Vlog, very jealous of it! Looking forward to the Gibraltar Vlog, always fancied going there…..however there’s too much of the UK we want to see, before we think about embarking on a continental tour. Now you’re back home, are you touring around the UK or planning another foreign trip?

      Thank you @ac2litre 😊. Portugal really is beautiful and we must have seen your friends at some point as I think we pretty much met every single person who lived there.... 🤓. On a serious note, we rely heavily on GPS data from our cameras and Google maps history as we too can't remember where we've been (or why)....we create these videos to remind ourselves how lucky we are and what a great time we had 😀. Pomegranate have a rather bland taste, but if you scoop out the pips with a spoon and spoon them into your mouth with big scoopfuls, they taste better. Portugal seems rather quiet at that time of the year...Expect the Algarve will be a bit busier. Are all your evening stop offs off grid?

      Hi David, yes it was certainly quiet. A bit busier in the Algarve as you'll see in our next video. We certainly prefer being in quieter park-ups and avoid big campsites as much as we can (although in the Algarve we had no choice). I don't think we'll be going out of our way to purchase any more Pomegranates but should we be given any we'll give them another go with your spoonful of pips tip 🤓 Thank you again for watching our videos 😊 Sue and Steve

I believe they sold their stock to a company in Lincoln (www.motorhometowbarcentre.co.uk) - I've not had any dealings with them but might be worth a call. Hope this helps and happy travels 😊 Best wishes, Sue and Steve

    spooky. im buying my first MH later this year and i mentioned to a customer today that around November this year im off on a 90 day trip with new MH to escape this horrible UK winter which is currently only 3 degrees max to Southern Spain to warm up my body. Living in Totnes and a Plymothian ive used Brittany Ferries lots travelling to my former holiday home in Brittany where road network was a joy.. Never done the Santander ferry before so looking forward to the experience. Glad i caught your vlog thanks have subscribed and look forward to your next vlog. Enjoy your winter sun experience. Be interested in further feedback of the ferry experience, roads in Spain park ups etc. Regards Gray

      Hi Graham, thank you for your kind comment and for subscribing, we're glad you're enjoying our videos. The ferry crossing was OK, we usually drive through France which we do prefer as we love the French countryside and villages but if the weather is a bit cold we prefer to get to Spain via the ferry and head south as quickly as possible. The roads in Spain are some of the best in Europe, most of the motorways are now toll free too. There isn't as many overnight park ups in Spain as there are in France but we never struggle to find somewhere. We use the park4night and searchforsites apps mostly. We'll be putting our next video out later this week and we always include our overnight parking locations - including what3words which we find really useful. Enjoy your trip in November and thank you again for subscribing. 😊 Safe travels. Sue and Steve

    Thanks for the tour of your van. Your video says the GVM upgrade only requires paperwork. In the UK do you need a different class licence or is a car licence OK up to 4500kg?

    • @wadskistravelchannel
      @wadskistravelchannel 8 місяців тому

      Hi John, thank you. Yes the van upgrade was purely a paperwork exercise. To drive anything over 3500KG (with a UK driving licence) you will need to make sure you have a C1 entitlement - this allows you to drive a vehicle up to 7500KG. This C1 entitlement was added automatically if you passed your car driving test (in the UK) before Jan 1st 1997. (It's called grandfather rights). If you passed your car test after this date it was not included and in this case you would need to pass an additional test to drive anything over 3500KG and get the C1 entitlement added to your licence. You also lose your C1 entitlement when you reach 70 years of age and is only renewed with satisfactory medical. Hope this helps. :-)

    Fab❤ we are torn between the Adria twin SLB and the summit prime 640🤔 can you tell me if the prime is winterised...as in are the pipes in the floor or outside underneath the van etc? Also where do the leisure batteries live? 🤔 thank you ❤

    • @wadskistravelchannel
      @wadskistravelchannel 10 місяців тому

      Hi @Leannearnold8326, the fresh water tank and pipes are inside the van (under the bed) but the waste water tank is underneath the van and not protected from frost. One problem we do have is that the Truma Boiler has a valve that opens when the temperature drops below (I think) 4 degrees C and dumps all the fresh water from the tank. It can be quite a pain...you can keep the valve closed by wedging something on it to stop it opening but it is annoying. The heater itself is under the dinette seat. The leisure battery is under the passenger seat. We do use the van in winter but tend to stay in warmer climates (we're in Spain as I type this). If you were wanting to use the van in cold climates I'd be looking at better winterisation that's for sure. Hope this helps. Steve

    • @leannearnold8326
      @leannearnold8326 10 місяців тому

      @@wadskistravelchannel thank you - the dump valve thing is common place on all European built vans - our Hymer does the exact same thing, but you can get a small "low amp" heated wire that attaches to the valve so it stays warm and doesn't dump the fresh water! 🙈 Thanks for the info on build 👍
