Man, this guy is one of the greats!!! I have most of Basie’s albums. That same year I saw Harry James and his orchestra I thought I had died and went to heaven, later the Woody Herman band. Wish this was still alive as it once used to be.

just had to listen to this again. he simply has the best sound ever on a trumpet.

I saw this same orchestra in 1986. Powerhouse doesn't even come close to describing the sound from this group of "Top-Shelf" musicians. Byron was spot on that night like usual. He's a Ferguson and Severinsen rolled into one!
