I'm not good with heights. I did this route on my own in the summer and it was pretty easy. Fisheye lens makes it look far steeper than it is and makes the ridge look far narrower than it feels in person. Almost anyone could do this if they took their time.
fisheye lenses here really exaggerate what is a pretty tame scramble.
wow - thanks for helping me visualise what a 'proper' scramble can look like - clearly a step up from Catbells 🙂
Curtesh 👏. You make it look so simple 😂❤ A great video 😮 although scary.
¡Que bonito paisaje! Me suscribo de paso y te dejo mi LIKE. Un saludo desde España!
Well done Curtesh, good trail vid 👍 I did the GGW a while back and my own set of videos. Just subbed 👍
🤙🤯 rad video curt... amazing details on the types of poop 💩 you encounter 😀 will definitely be hitting you up with more questions! Probably never ending questions! 🤙💩🤯🗻
Well done Sir. Having now completed the whole of Lands End to Inverness in bits (a mixture of the well-known long-distance trails plus linking sections which I made up), I will be starting on Inverness to John O’Groats soon. No way would I have done those ledges outside the barbed wire fences though - I would be much more inclined to ease myself over the barbed wire and walk the other side.
Hey man, great video! What guide did you stick to for the route?
And what shoes did you wear?
Still on the march Curtesh well done keep it up x
Were they posing as hikers or in cars?. I've had similar experiences on the Cotswold Way.
I stayed in the same campsite with the road on one side and railway on the other side just out Tain. I was woken up by a train at 5am!
I was under surveillance by the authorities throughout the walk which I haven't depicted in the video. Just to note.

Nice (?) video, with the exception of your commentary. And i am surprised at your planning. Did you do any research before setting out? And you could have learned how to pronounce local names.
I had 2 and they both deflated , I tested them at home first , even the suppliers couldn't work it out. The fabric appeared to be so thin that air passed through it slowly, I never even slept on then,
Same here. Mine is going back too.
what months did you do this hiking? and was that all you ate per day?
Do you want to do the coast to coast with me i will probably go for it the middle of July or the end of July let me know if you have the time ⛺🌄🏕🎆🌌🌅🌠😎
Not for me, this time thanks. It was my first long distance walk some years ago although I did it East (Robin Hoods Bay) to West (St Bees) i.e. I finished with the best scenery. I wish you all the best but don't get hung up on following the exact route, Wainwright only suggested it, he never actually walked the route!!!
@@curteshsingdia1703 i didn't know you had done it how was the navigation as its not that good for signs
@@kasperhauser987 I had used a basic GPS, simple compass with a special ordnance survey strip map of the whole route. Technology has changed a lot since I did it. If you have a decent phone with proper GPS + GLONASS and power bank you can do it by paying for one month's os map app (£4, not the annual option). I would still take the strip map if you can get an up to date copy and small compass to orientate the map.
You can buy a Cicerone map booklet of the Coast to Coast route which has ordnance survey mapping.
@@curteshsingdia1703 ye thanks for that ive got a footprint map in 2 sections and i think i will use the hiiking app with GPS just in case i know people het lost but it should be okay and ive got a few weeks before i do it next bit of good weather im doing the calderdale way it's only 50 miles but its on my doorstep im bored already i go on a bit of a downer when i get back after I've rested i want to get of again
How you doing mate i met you on the south downs way a few weeks ago my name is rob i got back after finishing the sdw had a rest for a week and then did the great Glenn way ive been back about 2 weeks im planning to do the Wainwright coast to coast hope you're ok it was good to meet you ⛺🌄🏕🌌🌅🌠🎆😎
It was good to meet you too. What tent did you use?
@@curteshsingdia1703 ye it was good to meet you i was using the lanshan flames creed its about a 1000 grams have you done anymore walks and do you have any planned
@@curteshsingdia1703 recently they brought out the lanshan 1 pro which is 850 grams that's 150 grams lighter than the lanshan 1 flames creed
@@curteshsingdia1703 when i got back from the south downs way i had a rest for a week and then did the great Glenn way stunning scenery got to walk past loch ness a great trail ive never seen as many trees in my life and i haven't seen trees taller than the ggw
Awesome video!
I'm on my 2nd uberlite first one had zero leaks but the baffles came apart. 2nd one has the slow leak. Glad I got mine from REI because I'm sending it back.
Great video mate. I've heard people say that the water quality in Lechlade is very good and very clean. Did you find that to be true?
From what I remember, the water near Lechlade seemed ok.
@@curteshsingdia1703 Thanks. Good luck. Great video
Turned my legs to jelly 😍
Great film did you have any probs finding a place to pitch up each night thinking of doing this one myself
Wild camping is possible on the South Downs Way but the problem is there aren't many wooded areas and there are many fields with cows in, something you need to avoid. You could pitch up just by the side of the route if worst comes to worse. Obviously leave no trace i.e. no fires or litter and try to pitch up just before dark and take down early in the morning to avoid being spotted as much as you can. Depends on the weather of course and how far you can walk. I already knew where I could pitch up at some points on the second half which made it easier, I didn't stray far from the actual route at all.
Smashing bit of filming their Curtesh, it's a cracking place the Downs, I'm lucky as I live pretty much on the route, glad to see you used a bench that I fitted just before the bridge that goes over the river Adur ,all the best Will 👍🍻
What is the best food on hiking 🥾?
That depends on a number of factors like what you like/want, the walk you're doing, what you can carry and how much effort/time you're prepared to put in. One good food are biscuits (chocolate biscuits, if you are not in a hot place). They can be tasty and give you energy when you need it.
@@curteshsingdia1703 how you doing my friend i met you on the south downs way my name's rob ⛺🌄🏕🎆🌌🌅🌠😎
Your tent looks like the hilleberg acto. An excellent four season tent. It needs the ventilation flaps at each end opened to stop condensation. I normally have my door open even in winter.
My tent was the Nordisk Telemark 2.2, not something I would recommend. The Akto is a very different matter.
What was your favourite section of the loop?
I'll be honest I can't remember, the walk wasn't that scenic.
Love to see all cultures enjoying the great British outdoors.
Hi there. Thoroughly enjoyed that. That's some water filter you have there, could you say what it was? Your a braver man than me when it comes to the cows, dame things petrify me. Love the food rations may give that a go. Like I say, thoroughly enjoyed your video, even more so as you remained cheerful throughout, even when wet from condensation, well done. Thanks for filming, editing and posting and sharing with us all, very much appreciated and big thumbs up. ATB Dave aka wackyswanderings
The water filter I used was the MSR Guardian, this filters bacteria and viruses. You only really need to deal with bacteria for the South Downs Way though.
@@curteshsingdia1703 that's brilliant thank you👍
Why? :O
No condensation then?
I honestly have no idea as I was more concerned about the wind.
I remember the early days when I used to wildcamp in my Soulo and I actually worried whether it would be ok in the high winds.......now I just get a good nights sleep.
Wow. So helpful
We did wonder how you got on. Great to meet you. Stay safe 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Curtesh - really enjoyed this, thank you.
Incredible journey Curtesh.....👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The wind farm you mentioned runs along the coast where we live. We have recently started hiking and as we live right next to the South Downs we go out most weekends to get a couple of walks in. Great to see someone else is capturing the beauty of our local landscapes. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Well done Curtesh, 100 miles is a heck of an achievement especially when you are climbing up and down the South Downs. Subscribed 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Very enjoyable video and some really nice shots across the Downs, glad you had nice weather for your walk, the autumn is a good season for walking and camping. Thanks.
Kudos to you dear chap and congratulations on your achievement, the South downs are beautiful and no easy task to complete. Thanks for sharing 👍
Same thing here, so sad for the price.
Good One. The water tank where you fetched water was there for cattle not for human consumption.
Good vid. You are a brave man, it looks well spooky at night. Have you ever seen anything that gave u a fright?
@@dexmatic Not really.
Yes I knew the troughs were for cattle, sheep and horses, that's why I used a filter that dealt with all bacteria and viruses (MSR Guardian). Although you only need to be able to deal with bacteria from the water sources along the South Downs Ways.
Great video, really get the feel of your surroundings with the sound of the wind blowing and the sloshing in the water. Amazing views, another great video.... keep them coming 👍
Thanks for posting this - great account of the journey!
Hey. Great video. During which month you walked? Did same too that year
