I knew my girlfriend's snobbery about it was unwarranted :) Thanks again. Subscribed.

    Mitsubishi sharpener is wonderful. I don’t use pastel pencils, but it’s fantastic for colored pencils and makes the points both sharp AND long. Since I like to use the side of the pencil, I really love the longer point.

    Thank you for this great book review ! I feel gouache is the plain Jane, that's often overlooked, in comparison to the popular watercolors 😂 Off topic, may I ask what microphone/camera you're using. Your voice sounds so crisp and clear ! Perhaps, it's just your voice 😄

    • @studio.spirit
      @studio.spirit 15 днів тому

      Thanks glad you like it. See now I see watercolour as the plain Jane lol the camera I use is Sony A7cii and sometimes iPhone 12pro but the mic is the Rode VideoMicro Compact (when I remember to bring it and put it in) otherwise it is just the in built mics on the devices and a bit of tweaking in editing.

    This is really confusing because you’re trying to compare gouache with acrylic gouache so it’s all over the place I don’t understand it’s like comparing an apple to a banana which acrylic gouache is better for coverage and laying down smoothly?

    • @studio.spirit
      @studio.spirit Місяць тому

      Not really because at the end of the day, the only difference between the two is that acrylic gouache should be permanent ie it doesn’t reactive with water. Coverage, smoothness, pigments etc should be on par with one another.

    If you would like a cheap good version of this you can't beat the stabilo m80 works a treat and won't dint your pencils. My plastic m80 cost around 30 auDont forget to run graphite pencils through after your coloured pencils to maintain your blades on the crank shaft

    • @studio.spirit

      Great Tip! To Maintain the blade. Thank you and great alternative for most pencils, but I have used the Stabilo M80 on pastel pastels and it doesn’t like the Hexagonal shape of the Caran dache pencils and tends to break easily.

    I bought a small set of Caran D’Ache Neocolors on sale and also some Swisscolors, which are marketed as children’s’ supplies, but which some UA-camrs have said are the same product, with a different target audience. The big difference between the artist-quality and supposedly kiddie-quality was that the kiddie crayons had square ends, So, how to sharpen them? None of my rather large collection of mostly-useless pencil sharpeners (including the special ones for pastel pencils, which do work for that purpose) would work on the Neocolors. However, by determined browsing on Amazon I found a highly-recommended beauty crayon sharpener. My experience with this kind of sharpener (for sharpening lip and eye pencils) has generally not been great, but I didn’t like the art supply options for the Neocolors, either. Happy ending: the beauty pencil sharpener works perfectly on the Neocolors: sharpens even the blunt-ended kiddie crayons to a nice point without damage, unnecessary waste or any great effort or skill. Cost: £2-something, shipping included. Moral of the story: you don’t have to spend a two-figure sum to sharpen these crayons.

    • @studio.spirit
      @studio.spirit 2 місяці тому

      I haven’t and wouldn’t sharpen any of the Neocolour (oil, wax, or water soluble) with this as they are too soft. Am rather confused about you comparing Neocolour (crayon like) to swisscolours (pencils) in my experience two very different products. Glad you found something that works for you. I still use and enjoy using my sharpener for pastel pencils.

The paper I use is either standard printer paper 90gsm with Gloo to stick em down or I use Epson photo quality sticker paper which is matte rather than glossy. What convinced you to try out rings? like the variety of the seasons and I guess the variety of the systems haha wow the rings are so much bigger than your book it's interesting that you don't like the wasted space in the binder - very obviously a problem but idk how much I've thought about that aspect oh man having the right hole puncher is important the little printed flare decoration looks very functional! if it's for a forest theme maybe you can add some tree related stuff in the upper corners like a little floating island with trees on it and a waterfall? idk what really goes with the theme that will look different every time with a template haha - I was thinking kind of like how when someone does a big Minecraft build they make like 40 trees and then copy a few of them in hundreds of different combinations throughout the space they need to fill one thing that might be cool is a few different contents sections designed for the theme people are going for - I don't necessarily mean something like memento mori but it might be interesting to play around with the layout for something which is mostly a journal, scientific collection, quotes, etc I hope the sanding goes as well as the cutting! I will say that the first and last page in a binder always force their way out of my binders eventually - it takes hundreds of uses though

    • @studio.spirit
      @studio.spirit 4 місяці тому

      Yes the variety, as am hoping my research is going to feed some of my artwork so want to also put different papers as I start working on different concepts. Am used to working on A1 A0 drawings so A5 always seem small to me it boggles my mind how people can A6 Hobonichi’s etc plus a lot of my Skecthbooks are B5 and makes sense to go a bit bigger as you have to make room for the rings. I like the idea of a forest theme, I just wanna refine my branded version first as like a base and then do different themes later (currently tinkering with a summerween ideas) thank you for all you thoughts and ideas I really appreciate your suggestions. Hope you enjoy what I produce next.

    I really dislike the arches oil paper. I am still trying to figure out what medium to use it for, but for oils or even acrylics it's a no for me. It absorbs SO MUCH that it makes you use twice the amount of paint to be able to blend anything. I tried oiling out an A5 piece of arches paper and the amount of linseed I had to use was ridiculous

      Thanks for sharing! I assume you mean oil paint? 🎨 so far with the oil pastels it’s been lovely butttttt I prefer the sennelier paper.

    This was fascinating, watching this process! My favorite part was the sketchbook with the tracing paper pieces, to see what changes you want to make. I'm a watercolorist, and will use this idea in the future! Thanks for sharing. 🌻

    Very curious how the studio turned out! I know this is an older video, but how did the Barcelona project end up? 🏢🏛

      By studio do you mean the one am in now? It turned out pretty much as I planned. Barcelona Project only got to the tender and the client went with another design, which they still haven’t built. (I had to re watch the video as it has been awhile, and why do I sound American? lol) thank you for watching and engaging I hope you will like my newer content.

    I watched this video and it convinced me into buying one (the red edition). I bought it in a shop in Switzerland for 97£. I am in love with this machine. What convinced me to buy one is, that you can replace the cutter-unit once it gets dull - so it's really a sharpener for a lifetime. And I love I can sharpen pencils sharp and coloring pencils blunt. I have the option to change it continuously adjustable. No other sharpener has this option. You would have to buy many different one to get the same results.

      Wonderful! Glad you got your hands on one. They are a joy to use. And as we both said will last a lifetime.
