I do plan on reading the books. In the meantime, I'm gonna continue to go in these seasons blind. It's fun not knowing what to expect and being totally surprised by everything. But I will read each book once the series is over with.

I agree. I guess people were hoping for it to be exactly like the other 2 films. But I liked the fact that it was its own movie. It worked!

@@dontsplitup you seriously need to consider reading or audio book the trilogy of books that I mentioned. Except for a few changes, like the time period and setting, they have kept to the nuances of the books.

@@dontsplitup I am in my 50s and I was around 14 years old in the early 80s when I read interview with the vampire. Most people don’t realize that it was written in the early 70s. I think I read the other two when I was an older teenager. If you haven’t seen the movie from the 90s with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt, it’s worth watching. It follows the book. That way you can kind of get an understanding of how and why they changed things in the series. In the book, Claudia, was a very young child; about five or six years old. I think Claudia being 14 in the series, works better. It’s extremely difficult for a younger actress to portray cognitive aging. Kirsten Dunst was around 10 or 11 years old when she did the movie and, I think she’s the exception.

@@MargaretRosenbalm It's amazing how these stories are getting a nice dust off and being told in present time. It goes to show how great these books are and how they can still work and be entertaining. I agree that Kirsten Dunst was excellent in the Claudia role from the film. Maybe I'm a bit biased as well because I'm a sucker for great vampire stories. Really appreciate your recommendations, notes and insight.

Everyone says that's the order of the books, so it makes sense and I can't wait!

@@dontsplitup They're doing 'The Vampire Lestat' next- if you haven't read it, you should- it's incredible, one of my favorite books, and some of Anne Rice's best writing.

@@dontsplitup The books, ranked: 'Interview' and 'The Vampire Lestat'- the best of the series. Good: 'Blood and Gold', Queen of the Damned'. Just OK: 'Merrick' (pretty unmemorable, actually) 'Memnoc, the Devil' (takes about fifty pages to get going), 'Prince Lestat' (very uneven, some parts are very good, others read like bad fan fiction). Bad: 'The Tale of the Body Thief', 'Pandora' (reads like a draft for a novel) The worst: 'Blood Canticle' (Quite literally one of the worst books I've ever read- uneven pacing, clumsy dialog, unbelievable characters- avoid at all costs) Haven't read: 'Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis'.

@@dontsplitup A few more I forgot: 'Vittorio the Vampire'- A story set in Renaissance Italy, it falls into the Good category, and 'The Vampire Armand', which unfortunately introduces some of the most annoying characters in the whole series. Armand is more interesting when he's evil; this book elaborates on his backstory, it's just OK. Rice's writing ranges from incredible to sloppy, especially in her later books, where she seems to just be cranking them out without an editor.

Lol. Excellent point. It's funny that the one person to take Armand down was the same guy he tortured back in San Francisco in Malloy! How poetic!

He got what he deserved. But he was a damn good villain!

Totally agree about Santiago. He definitely got his just desserts! But what a great villain, right? Loved that dude as a character. What you see is what you get. Malloy was did his thing. Stuck to his guns no matter what. Gotta respect that.

I am very glad to see Gabriel, Pandora, Bianca, Akasha and the twins coming in, because at this moment the show has killed off every. Single. Female. Character.

​@@AcademyNSwhat exactly were they supposed to do? Anne Rice killed Claudia and Madeline off in her books. Were the show runners supposed to keep them alive because they are the main women characters in the story? The main character in The Vampire Chronicles is Lestat, and his love for Louis and conflicted relationship with Armand is a main part of those stories. Like it or not, Claudia was a relatively minor character in the Vampire Chronicles, and Madeline was merely a footnote.

@@cullenarthur8879 well, given that Claudia is based on Rice's deceased daughter, whose death nearly annihilated her mother, and without whom there would be no series at all, you're wrong there. Also, if you'll re-read my statement, you'll see that I said I'm glad the other female characters are coming in, so hey: problem solved. But as to your first question, what would I have the writers do? Well .. After we're done with Akasha, and after Raglan James has body-switched Daniel into a hot, young body, and the show realizes it really just can't do Memnoch without pissing off religious crazies around the globe, I'd have them have two-tone Pulitzer-prize winning investigative journalist Daniel ask if they've run their blood though a mass spectrometer yet.

Hell yeah. What a series! It would be cool to see Louis as a cameo in whatever direction the series goes.

Hell yeah dude. This movie totally surprised me. The realistic take is what makes it surprisingly good!
