The Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee - Part1
We took a little drive across a few states to find ourselves in the Great Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. What a cool place to get out and explore. We camped for most of this trip and saw lots of things from waterfall, to mermaids (that's in part 2). As always thanks for watching and we hope you enjoy the trip.

awsome lantern collection!
Thank you @@ryangass4829 , it’s been a fun hobby.
just found your channel really like it.. i am thinking about the exact same tent .. i know that this was a few years ago but what is your opinion of the tent now? will be watching for more adventures thanks
@@ryangass4829 hey, thanks for watching. We really enjoy this tent. It had help up great.
Where is it, near what town?
@@robertvarner5354 the nearest small town is Claude. The closest bigger town is Amarillo.
I was checking your gps coordinates that you gave to one of your viewers. According to OnX Offroad, it was close to or on private land. I'm always looking for places to explore and now that I'm new to exploring Texas (From Hawaii) I'm finding very few places that aren't private land. I've just started picking people's brains and looking for adventures away from "town". Thanks for the video. SUBSCRIBED
@@ChrisGramm thanks for watching and subscribing, this video in particular is on private land that the owner was set up for camping. Some of it is a little more remote than the rest. Not much public land here in Texas.
@@WestTexasRambler It might sound crazy but when I was in Hawaii (Big Island), there seemed to be far more places that were off the grid and not private land. I've got a few videos uploaded of them. Sounds like the key to getting to great locations is networking. My only dilemma is whether I take my DRZ 400 or my Frontier for the first expedition.
I look forward to my first trip to Merus. I remember driving through the area before it existed. Big Bend Ranch SP is what I will measure it against. For vastness and beautiful terrain. Looks to me like it stacks up well.
@@vernvartdal6479 hey, thank for watching. Yes, there is lots of wide open country there. They have added a lot since we have been there. I’d like to make it back up there and see the changes made. Enjoy your trip.
What's the location of the waterfall. I plan on going camping next weekend
@@tCrollin look up bluff springs falls. Thanks for watching !
Thanks for the quick reply! Another question, where did you get the metal cover for the 2 burner stove??
@@tCrollin are you talking about the oven that we made cinnamon rolls in ? If so it’s just a single burner camp oven made by Colman. Our is an old one that we found somewhere, but I think you can still get them. They are not super efficient as far as fuel usage goes on the stove.
@@WestTexasRambler yes I was talking about that. So its a separate one burner oven? I thought it was an attachment that went over the 2 burner stove you have to convert it to an oven. I will look for it, thanks again.
@@tCrollin yes, it’s a separate piece that folds up. Ours just covers one burner.
Did you guys tow that popup through all the trails? Any portions you wouldn't or wasn't allowed?
@@jonmccauley6490 we just hauled it down the 101 trail (I believe is what it was called) to our campsite. There is a steep climb on the way out and I’m not sure what there rules for that these days. We were there before they actually opened to the public.
What road were off of the last night your were camping? Heading out that way this fall.. looked like a nice spot for multiple tents.
I think it’s called telephone canyon.
Venetian Blinds... great song btw!!
@@crittgolden thanks, that’s the hardest part of editing a video is finding the right music haha
Absolute best opening to a video ever!!! What wonderful looking family! Keep taking them camping!!
@@crittgolden thanks for watching, we need to get out again soon.
Enjoying your videos from Lubbock, Tx. Great camping ideas, tx!
Hey, that’s right down the road. Thanks for watching. We appreciate your comment.
First time watching, I liked the little hacks, the area is really nice, nothings tops nature
Hey, thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. Safe travels!
Bigfoot country. Bigfoot all around there. I'd lookout!! Whoa! Did you see that one across the river watching you??
No sightings of him on this trip, I guess we will just have to go back again sometime haha
@@WestTexasRambler They were probably watching you all night!! I keep telling my wife that we are going on an East Texas Bigfoot trip soon. But I may have to go alone. LOL! Stay safe, bother!
@@ChefDuane haha thank you. You stay safe as well.
We live 3.5 hours east of the Lincoln National Forest. I can't believe we've never gone there. Now I have to make plans soon :) Great video and family time!
Hey, thanks for watching. You will absolutely have to go check it out. Keep in touch. We would love to hear about it.
Cool sounds good. Y'all be blessed!
I'm heading to Ruidoso and Cloudcroft area next week. Do you have any tips on places to go. Good routes and camping spots?
I’m not really sure what all is accessible in the winter around there. You might have to just get out and explore to see if there are places not covered in snow.
I take my 3/4 megacab all the way to the back lol
Heck yea, get back there where you don’t see people for a few days haha
Northern New Mexico is gourguse. I want to visit it again someday
I agree, it’s our little oasis.
This is nowhere near northern New Mexico.
Thanks for the tour 🙂 I really liked your choice for music!
Thank you for watching, they have added tons of trails since we were there too. Finding music is just about the hardest thing for me haha. I’m sure I spend more time finding songs then editing the video haha
Very cool terrain, can't wait to get out there! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching.
I get over your way every couple of years hire a car and travel and tent camp ,it’s a great country for doing this
We really like that area too
Kids and water ,great
Thanks for watching
Great family camping
It is a great place for the family. Thanks for watching !
I’m amazed what Americans eat ,
Never been that direction from west texas. Looks like we need to. Awesome video!
Thanks for watching, this was our first time exploring the national park and it was a great lot of fun. There was literally beauty around every corner.
Good stuff, bud. I'm picking up some ideas and tips off this series.
I’m glad to help answer any questions if any come up. You know how to find me haha
I love doing this type of thing.
That looks like an awesome trip! We always miss the cades cove due to traffic but it doesn’t look crowded when you all went. Nice change of scenery from Texas
Thanks, we had a great time. We did Cades Cove first thing in the morning and it really wasn’t too bad until a little later on. We appreciate you watching.
Hey! I love that lantern collection hanging in your shop. That maybe better than mine! I might have to sneak over there and be jealous! I've always loved camping and all the things that go along with it, but I have a love affair with gas lanterns, cast iron cookware and woodstoves (I know, not exactly a camping thing). These items take me back to the earliest days of my childhood and I have some especially good memories surrounding them.
Thanks, they are fun to tinker with. My father-in-law goes to lots of garage and estate sales looking to cast iron (he has a great big collection of cast iron) and ever once in a while he will send a picture of gas power camp stuff they might have.
That looks like an awesome trip, bud. My wife's family is all from Tennessee originally and we've been there lots of times, but never as far east as the Smokeys.
Hey, thanks for watching. We had a great time. Sure is some pretty country out that way.
Do you reckon a trip like this is doable on a dual sport motorcycle? I’m in Marathon TX, member of the flatland offroad fb group. No toyota or jeep, rather a suzuki DR650
Oh yea, most of this would be completely doable. So there are 3 sections to the Lincoln NF and one is near Queen, NM which would be closer to you. I haven’t been to that section but there is a road that I have heard is a beautiful ride on a motorcycle. I think that district of the NF is a more dry desert landscape vs. the forested, tree covered area where we were. Fell free to message me on FB and I can get you some information if you would like. Thanks for watching !
looked like a good time
We had a great time buddy. Thanks for watching
Nice to see recent content sir. Enjoyed you sharing your adventure. This the last trip for the season?
Hey, thanks for watching. This trip was from back in June. We had another big trip that I need to get the video up for. We can’t wait to share that one.
It was nice to see the whole family again, been a while. That fire lookout looks like a ruin from a castle, so cool!
Thanks for watching as always, we have been out a few times, but I have been bad about videoing enough to make a video. I’ve got one more to catch up on that was a BIG trip. Can’t wait to share that one.
Lubbock FD? Retired Allen Tx FD here…Grew up in Andrews…Just found the channel and love it👍👍
Hey, I Volunteer in a smaller town near Lubbock. Thanks for watching and we appreciate the comment.
37 kids? I'd jump off that canyon ledge...
Ok, maybe 37 was an exaggeration, but when you are out camping and they are running around….. it feels like there are more of those little critters than there really are haha
Great video, I like your “style”….just simple camping!
Thank you for watching, we appreciate your comments.
What lights are around your roof rack?
They were cheap-o lights from Amazon. I think they were labeled as “Sinlips” or something like that. They have been great.
nice #overland video
Thank you, I appreciate it. Thanks for watching.
I'm moving from Austin out to Ruidoso with my 4 Runner - same color - and I'm gonna be right next to this forest. One of the most exciting parts is being able to take my baby daughter camping! Looks like you guys had a great time :)
We love it out there, there is so much to explore, we have been on 4-5 trips out there and have only scratched the surface. Enjoy your time out there. Thanks for watching.
please look up the carnivore diet ..we need families like yall stop eating that poison .. not being an a-hole I really care about you .......Heil Wr-alda
Is this the Texas hill country trail on on X off-road by any chance ?
I’m not sure actually , I have never used On X. With that being said, we just did a section of it and it is the very popular trail so there is a good chance it’s been shared on OnX.
Toyota/Lexus dominates off-road community. Jeep probably stays next in line.
We had a couple of jeeps with us that were very capable, we did enjoy the Lexus and Toyotas though.
@@WestTexasRambler I'm in Dallas. Where are you guys located and when will be the next trip? Do you guys invite new members?
@@mt00a right now our group “Flatland Off-road” mostly meets in the Lubbock area for regular get togethers and occasionally a meet up in the Midland and Amarillo areas. You can find us on Facebook and instagram, there will be more trip information posted there. There is a trip to the San Juan mountains of Colorado coming up in July.
Maybe a weird question but do you guys run ac while driving? seems like most of yall have your windows down so do you bother to run ac?
We had some nice weather so we had the windows down. If we were trying to navigate some sort of obstacle they were down to help communication.
Love the spice idea!
Yea, it has been great. It’s a nice small compact way to carry our favorites. Thanks for watching !
What a wonderful trip! Can you share the locations of these campgrounds?
Thanks for watching, all these sights are down many of the forest roads. Just pick one and go as far as you want to see what’s out there.
We have young kids same age. Thanks for inspiring us to get off the beaten path more
Hey, that’s great. We hope you get the chance to get out and explore. It’s always fun to watch the kiddo’s imagination while out camping. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.
Gets alot of pressure. Fish are spooky and picky
That’s what I have learned, still a fun trip regardless. Thanks for watching
Great tip about the eggs...definitely will have to give that a try on my next outing. In the process of 'outfitting' my older 4WD Suburban for the purpose of 'moderate' overlanding for my photographic excursions in and around Texas. Gotta get away from the DFW area to keep my sanity. 😁
Thanks for watching, yea we like that egg trick. No worries about breaking shells haha. I’d be interested to see and hear about you trips. Follow us on instagram if you have one.
must have off roading essential accommodations....
For off-road specifically or camping?
