Windy night above Loch Skeen | Simond Makalu 2 |
On this adventure I took off on a local hike accompanied by @TheSoloSummiteer and @GoSummitSolo
With winds forecasted well in excess of 30mph we headed up the Grey Mares Tail path towards Loch skeen. Once up there, we decided to go higher and headed up towards Mid Craig to find a pitch for the night. Battling the winds and the darkness we got pitched up for the night knowing that the morning was forecasted to be calm, clear and potentially spectacular.
Camped out once again in the Simond Makalu 2 with the @mammut sleeping bag to keep me warm

On this adventure, I take in and cover the history making event that accorded on October 10th 2024. The event in question was a massive G4 turning into G5 rated Aurora Storm. It was spectacular! Easily visable with the naked eye. I’ve tried not to over do the footage but u do want to make sure you get enough of the footage to appreciate just how amazing this was. In this adventure, we had ourselves a local camp above Moffat and overlooking the Devils Beef tub. We pitched up in the MSR Elixir 2 on the summit point of Annanhead hill and enjoyed a fantastic evening watching the sunset. Over night we were treated to an amazing light show via the northern lights then awoke to a simply beautiful autumnal feel sunrise. We met up with @GoSummitSolo on this trip...

On this adventure I was up in the Arrochar Alps to do a summit camp on one of Arrochar’s finest munros - Ben Vorlich! We got some of the best conditions for a long time on a summit camp. Sunset, sunrise and little to no wind! Just perfect 👌. Great to have company too in the form of Steven. Someone I’ve chatted to for well over a year but not managed to get out with before. On this adventure, we decided to make use of a long weekend and have 2 nights camp up at St Mary’s loch. The campsite we set up was perfect. We added the OEX expedition tarp to create a day shelter as well as an awesome fire pit to do our cooking on. The weather forecast was as good as we can get for this time of year but what tops it off is the stunning Aurora sighting we got overnight and the...

On this adventure, we took off once again to the Lakes for a summit camp. The Weather had been awful overnight and going north into the cairngorms just doesn't seem appealing so instead we set off for the Lake District and parked up at Honister Slate Mine. We Originally planned to do Great Gable but instead decided to do the short hike up to Dale Head. Once up there, we got set up and enjoyed a...

Nice video mate, that night lapse looked unreal man. 🤯 well captured 🤙🏼
Cheers bud. What a night that was
Cracking pitch that, what a place to watch the Aurora. Nice video & new sub. Atb, Dave
Cheers Dave. Was a strategic decision to go there. Definitely paid off.
Dancing sky !! Cracking footage Robert. Must have been some buzz being in amongst it ! 👍 What’s the heater you use ? Seen it in last video too.
@@cowalexplorer oh it was amazing! Definitely one of them nights you just won’t ever forget. Got it off Amazon for £30. A wee gas heater. No quite a hot tent but means on the colder nights I can stay warmer and relaxed in the tent
@@Moffatmountainadventures it’s good to have that bit of comfort or use to dry gear in the vestibule. I remember Coleman used to do one, black Cat or something - probably stopped making them now, I’ll check the Amazon. 👍
What settings did you use?
@@abhishekmamgain8934 that’s a starlapse on 30 secs exposure
@@Moffatmountainadventures looks great man!
nature can be so stunning !!! thanks for sharing.
Your so welcome! 🙏 I’m glad I was able to capture it
Absolutely stunning Robert, really enjoyed that and the classical music was perfect….2 things I’ve not done yet, seen an aurora and summit camped….you got the perfect night mate, so jealous….belter, Take care, Steven 🥾⛰️🏴🏴
That’s one of them that’s gonna live long on the memories. Ohh you’ve not summit camped yet, what’s been putting you off? It’s no like you’ve not got the legs for it. Ayr couldn’t have asked for a better night for that, cheers Steven, ATVB, Robert
@@Moffatmountainadventures wouldn’t put myself in the category of expert camper, especially after seeing your videos, love camping but it’s been all campsites and car camping up till now…a summit really appeals but I guess there’s more to it going from what I’ve seen….great information btw
@@outofayrshire143 well if your ever get the itch to go for it I’d be more than happy to go out. Just mind and pack the hip flask ☺️
@@Moffatmountainadventurestake you up on that mate….will need to pick your brains on gear 😉
Nice one captured it perfectly. Like the classical music fits in very well with what we were seeing👌. Definitely one that will live long in the memories 😁
Aye had that song in my head for ages to use on a video and that just felt ideal. It’ll be one of them nights that’s gonna be hard to top.
Definitely picked a great night for it aye. Nice one im jealous 👍
That’s a night that’ll live with me for a long time. Definitely more than just another camp. Couldn’t believe what we where seeing
@Moffatmountainadventures we seen it from our back garden back in the summer. Couldn't imagine seeing it how well yous had it. Definitely one to remember
What a trip, epic area with matching views. Weather with you again, getting above the clouds in the morning 👍
Oh mate! That was just a class wee trip. Landed lucky with the weather too. Couldn’t really ask for too much better
Great video Robert. Enjoyed that. ATB
Cheers Dave. Loved that trip
Nice one Robert, great camp spot with terrific 360 views, a cracking sunset with glencoe silhouetted. Good drone footage in the morn to get above the clouds, brilliant. Love it up there mate. Great edit as always. PS got the Neo, hope to try it out tomorrow.👍 ATB Frank
One of my favourite spots to date for a camp. Didn’t highlight on the video but it really felt like one of them hills that shows the constrast from the west mountains and their crags and sharp tops to the big monstrous rounded hills of the west. Cheers for the comments frank. Hope you enjoy the Neo. Cracking wee drone
What a spot that was matey. Awesome pitch.
Aye mate, some camp that was. One of favourites so far
Great video Marra I love them Hills...agree with all the points ya put forward about the la'al Neo...I love it for them tracking shots it's not perfect but it definitely has a place in the vlogging kit. Have a great weekend bud tek care stay safe ATVB Andy and The ROCK STAR ⭐
I think the neo has some great qualities, definitely a good addition. I’ll be catching up on yours at some point this week, had 2 camps this past few days so had little time at home. ATVB speak to you soon Robert
Incredible video Robert 😍👍..Absolute class 😁..Top edit 😍👌🏻 Cheers Murchie
Cheers murchie. Just love that area. Definitely a place I’ll be visiting many more times. Cheers for the comments, ATVB Robert
@@Moffatmountainadventures 😍👍
Truly gorgeous scenery my friend, shots are fantastic! Especially aerial 🔥🔥
Thank you 🙏 was a stunning camp ⛺️
Beautiful scenery. Your trainspotting scene could've probably made it into the sequel, it was that bad ;) Seen the original over a thousand times as it happens, used to watch it most times I got drunk in my younger days (I drank a lot!). Kinda thinking about heading to corrour in the next fortnight when I'm free, I need a break from modern day living and your vid reminds me what I've been missing. Thanks for uploading 👍
So you’re saying, it was that bad, it was good 😂. It was one of them films growing up o just watched on repeat. Learning it, line by line. Corrour is just a stunning area. Offers so much that just the hills around it. The best part for me is lack of noise and human contact. I for one find after a while I need less contact. Thank you for watching and commenting.
Another cracking camp/video. Definitely a place that needs explored more 👍
I wouldn't give up the day job just yet, but it's probably only a matter of time before Hollywood comes a calling. If you film in that area again, I'll be sure to check out the video. Over and out!
Great video this.. I did the exact same route on my first wild camping trip up to high stile, almost killed me. 🤣 enjoyed watching mate.
Was definitely a longer or tougher route than I expected. Worth it for the views mind you.
Ah mate what a spot that was, I haven’t been up there myself yet. Awesome.
Very similar pitch to my red pike one, was glad to have a ground sheet just to protect the mats a touch more from the rocks. Definitely felt like if I’m camping that high it had to be on that edge. Cheers for watching bud
Stunning though, I prefer the cold weather being a ginger
Gingers fear sun ☀️
Cheers bud👍
Anytime
Great video bud. I finished my Munros last May and have been looking at things to keep me occupied. I've decided to go for the Donalds and have my first 15 in the bag. I'll be heading to the GMT soon or perhaps I'll leave it for a winter camp.
Oh yeah, I vaguely remember seeing you post about your completion. Donald’s are so much fun. Full of variety and character but without the mass of people. Gimmie a shout if your coming down and I’ll try and join you if you ever want the company
So that’s what sunshine looks like , if I didn’t have the X1 I might have got the neo . Like the X1 it is limited to height etc so no high fly bys footage looks ok tho atb Dave 😎☀️👍
You where the first I remember seeing with the x1 and I was about to get the new version of it with the 4k when this dropped so it seemed a no brainier. Half the price and is compatible with my mic and the controller too which then allows it to go much further. Yeah I managed to sneak out and get at least a few hours in it. Definitely better compared to your camp in the lakes. It’s that luck of the draw with our days off. Wish I had taken holidays last week. Cheers Dave, ATVB to you too,
Brilliant Robert😍.I loved it up there 😁..Cool wee drone mate . Cheers Murchie
Aye I’m really impressed with it. Very handy to use and easy to set up. Makes a nice wee addition I recon for of and when I can get out. Hope your well murchie. We need to get something sorted soon
@@Moffatmountainadventures Defo mate 😁🏕️⛰️🍺
Nice one Robert, been down to that area once before, beautiful it was. The drone looks like a nice addition and yeh I hate all the faffing about getting my drone set up at times, so that wee drone looks good for that reason alone😂 Video quality looks good and I like the follow mode. I’m tempted 😂
It’s my local go too area when I can get the time to go far. Unfortunately that’s kind of been how it is since my Ben Vorlich camp. It’s s cracking wee bit of kit. I went that route to try and show how I’d use the different drones. It’s very small and robust so those follow shots are ideal, it was skimming off heather and bushes at one point but if you try that with a mini it’ll be upside down and broken. For the price I just recon it was too good to not take a punt. Would get some class shots on scrambles or ridge walks I recon.
@@Moffatmountainadventures cheers Robert, you’ve sold me it 🤣👍
@@hikingwithfrank315 something else to carry and charge mind you but worth the punt I recon ☺️👌
@@Moffatmountainadventures defo, I also have the mini 4K so I might punt that, don’t think I’ll need 3 drones.
@@hikingwithfrank315 so what’s the other drone you’ve got?
Great wee walk that 👍 Tried to camp on Mid Craig myself one time but it was too windy. It was stronger there than it was on White Probably cause it's more exposed. Eventually got pitched on Molls Cleuch Head after splitting a pole section trying to quickly get the tent pitched in-between the strong gusts 😖 Drone looks cracking, probably better in every way compared to the Hoverair. The only thing the Hoverair probably has on it is that it can be put in your pocket where as the DGI might be a bit too bulky?
I was gonna go up and camp there tonight actually but I got to the car park and it was reading 25 mph! Way more than the forecast. That exposed ledge would be at least 35 and the rest, na! Can’t be done with that if I can help it, Yeah I honestly think it’s a cracking bit of kit but you’re spot on, it doesn’t fold so it’s a touch harder to pack away. Love that I can use my mic on it though, I can’t wait to try that on a ridge or scramble
Just found cobens Xmas present. Nice vid again Rob
No worries, that’s exactly why I thought I’d feature it, it’s perfect as a beginner drone for kids / teens
@@Moffatmountainadventures your channels one best around mate. Truly is
Thta spot at 14.46 in I've been wanting to si that exact same spot for 2 years now 😂. I hiked up that and wanted to comeback to pitch it.
I’ve eyed it so much over the years but always went for either a summit or loch side. Was gonna go tonight but I wouldn’t enjoy that camp, was way too windy
Lovely walk on a sunny day 🎉
It was so nice, love it when it’s warm at 9am. Views 50 miles in all directions too
Nice one Robert. Looks a stunning area for a leg stretch , camp and some dronage. The wee one looks to perform well, especially for the cost. I see it does hand take off and landing. With your mini 3, how do you take off and land on rough ground ? I had to grab my 4 once 😂
Right on my doorstep too so handy when I’m pushed for time. I launch my mini 3 from my hand but when it comes to landing I try and land it on the floor. I did buy a little pop up landing patch for it but only used it a couple of times.
Cool shot rob
Cheers 🥂
Wow! We were up at glencoe at the weekend hiking and i said to my husband as we passed the visitor centre that we really need to do Ben Vorlich 👍
Ohh you really do. Hope you check out my full video and you’ll see for yourself just what a stunning view you get from there on a clear day
Stunning
@@themunrobagger cheers bud
Nice one 👍 Is the old van still sitting down in the valley ?
Aye, it’s still there. Looking more rusty brown than white now, hard to spot but that’s no going anywhere
Another great trip, that Aurora 👀, excellent footage.
@@cowalexplorer cheers bud. Been local ones last couple of weeks. Little time spare to get far. You managed to make use of this weather this week? Been a cracker
Aye managed to get out Tuesday night, uploaded the video last night, should be there somewhere. Weather was good but the harvest moon washed out my night lapse 🤣 Was still fighting the post covid lergy, but got out. 👍
Just catching up with vids Robert, over in Portugal just now.😎☀️🍺 Brilliant vid with some stunning views, it’s my favourite munro in the AA What a spot for a summit camp and your drone footage was top drawer, just brilliant mate.👍 Your mates tent looked a cracker with plenty of room. I’ll defo need to do a summit camp, these sunsets & sunrises are just superb from a summit. Enjoyed that Robert ATB Frank
21.30 in I love this nice pong shot whilst your talking. Lovely camp. Interesting drone hmm. And yes I'm seeing the difference with the mic now that u mentioned it to me. Man I wish I had the money haha Well haha it was the phone for my filming and pictures or that. Done my expensive purchasing for now haha

Another belter from a summit. Plenty of great dronage too. Great part of the world to visit 👍🍺
I love the arrochar alps. Couldn’t have asked for much better conditions to be honest too. Hope you’re feeling better bud. Be good to organise a wee camp soon

Got a wee camp spot in the Galloway's with cracking views of the mountains I might head to as I won't have to leave too early in the morning.A comparison video of the DGI and Hover air could be a good shout as there will be a lot of people trying to decide what one to get. I really enjoyed your video, beautifully connected to nature. 💚 You got my subscription!
Aww thank you so much. Glad you enjoyed that one and thank you for the sub
Nice one 👍 it's a cracking wee spot. I camped there last autumn and know what you mean with all the fire pits. When I was up camping on the Merrick a few weeks back there were two fire pits built at the summit using the Cairn. Needless to say I spent 10 mins dismantling them🤬. Loving the big one you built perfect for cooking on. cracking set up down there now 👍
Oh no way!! There’s ways of doing that too that cause no trace. They had similar ones at the car park side, but vandals took them down. I figured that side should be far enough away. Definitely gonna be a spot I’ll be using more in the winter 🥶
Good trip. Just chilling out for a few days. Fire, Aurora and inversion, had it all. Oh and a good gear review too Robert. 😮Where were the Desperados? . 😂
Oh I had them, can’t go a low camp without, thought I’d better pack a few Coke zeros soo seen as we where there for 2 days. Did tick all the boxes. That first night into morning was just ideal ☺️
