The thing about the monarch owning all swans tends to be misrepresented. The actual phrasing is that the Crown has the right to claim any "mute swan" (Cygnus olor) swimming in open waters on unmarked land. This dates to the 12th century. Until the 16th century land owners were typically granted ownership of swans on their land, but that has now reverted to the crown. It was originally an anti-poaching law. Attempts to domesticate swans were only partially successful, so supply was limited. The law prevented non-royals from hunting wild swans. In the modern era it's considered more of a conservation law with a weird history.

We used to have a cake tin like that. It was made of two pieces that fit into each other, so you can change the length of it and it makes it easier to take out. Taste and cook is already difficult enough when they do it on other shows. But on baking I imagine it even more difficult!

I think everyone wishes Tasha had made it to the final, but at least she had a good run. Loved your reactions! I'd like to request you try reacting to The Great Canadian Baking Show as a temporary replacement while waiting for the next series. Unlike some knock-offs, it has the same feel as the British version but with more North American recipes and flavours. I have confirmed that the full 7th season (2023) is available on UA-cam in full episode form. I believe season 6 is as well, but it's more scattered. The full series is also available for free on CBC's streaming service, but unfortunately that's only in Canada [VPNs may work, I haven't tried]. In any case, I look forwards to your reaction to more GBBO in future.

Hot cross buns are available at most Canadian grocery stores and bakeries around Easter. Not sure where in the US you are, but if it's near the border it might be worth a day trip next year. Or just make them yourselves, of course. ;)

I read an article that the reason hot water crust pastries never took off in the US is because they date to a time when the crust was more of a container then part of the food (eg, miners placing a baked pie in their coat for lunch). In the US and Canada, the pie crust is always part of the dish, so you want light and flaky not thick and rigid.

It was an insult because it was drawing attention to darker skin colours.
