The 3 Best pillows for hiking & outdoors? #backpacking
Is this the 3 best pillows for hiking, backpacking or all your outdoors adventures? Well, I'll let you decide for yourself but in today’s episode i will talk about my experience using 3 pillows, what i like and don’t like along with basic specs and features.
I've been using all three pillows to be able to do a good comparison, but my main pillow since two years has been the Dreamsleeper from Big Sky.

      Yeah, no doubt it’s a high price and a lot of money for most people. I don’t like the expression buy once cry once but, you will also get a great pad for that money. As a recommendation, look at Nemo, Sea To Summit or Exped as well. Hope you find what you’re looking for.

    I used trail runners for an 8 day trip in the Swedish/Norwegian mountains in the summer. Worst thing I could do.. my feet were wet all the time and the shoes did not dry because there was always some water or swamp i had to walk in. I have changed to shell boots but then you have no ventilation but you can change socks because the boots are more dry. I use trail runners on day hikes where theres no water. I dont understand how anyone can use trail runners in the swedish mountains. Do you use sealskinz socks? What is the secret??

    i would think ultralight backpackers would be all over a knife. dont need butane/propane, tent stakes, can make your own utensils, and has so many survival/defense uses. I think its a culture and age thing. going to school as a kid I usually had a pocket knife, would use it for doing random chores or helping out, like one time I was helping my dad burn a bunch of old wood at a house he bought, i think it was 7th grade. in highschool, there was signs on all the doors (legal requirment in the us) that said you couldnt have a knife at school, but it was not really enforced. kind of a comming to age thing here in the us at my school, lots of upper classmen had large-ish folding pocket knifes obviously displayed on their pants pockets, but if you didnt whip it out it wasnt an issue. I remember getting in a fight and thinking, i can whip this out and teach this guy a lesson, but realizing that would make things a lot worse and just knowing things hadnt come to that. some kind of maturity i guess. it was a tool like a pencil, sure you could shank someone with it but why would you do that. i would say if you remember 9-11, you are the age where you could still whip out a knife at school to open a bag of chips and get away with it, espeically if you were 17-18 years old at the time. not anymore here.... im assuming. i mean they used to have gun/shooting clubs at school before my time. appearently you cant even throw snowballs anymore. we uesd to put rocks in them and freeze them. lol, they cant just make a rule about fluffy snow vs hard snow/ice imo a big part of camping is making camp, which always revolves around making a ground fire. there is something primal about it, gets rid of the bugs atleast. its what camping smells like in my mind.

    if you're bringing a tripod, camera and bits n bobs then a multi-tool is important. A seat is here nor there. But the rest, yea, I agree. Unless you are OK with walking with weight. To be honest, carry a sink if you want... it's really up to you! :-)

    This sounds great. Looking for very light gear for walking the Te Aroroa in NZ. I hesitate though: I looked it up online and the website (a good one) had a heads up mentioning not to use it with a heavy back pack because of the thinness of the fabric. You mention it but not as a dealbreaker, it seems. Often, even in thicker jackets in my experience, the straps remove the coating I think, making it leak. No issue for you?

    • @roberthammenrudh

  • @Revilerify

    Many backpack fabrics might be somewhat water resistant (completely waterproof packs are more rare and they have their downsides) but will get wet after long exposure to water. Even if the stuff inside is packed watertight, the outer layer and all the pockets will get wet and it will take a rather long time to dry. When the pack is wet it makes the pack heavier and the pockets will be nasty to handle, everything is damp and not nice. Specially when there is possibility of leaving the pack for a long time in the rain a raincover is good to have. In military conditions a camouflage pattern raincover adds concealability.

    This skirt / kilt only limits your stride length as it's almost a parallel tube, and its easy to solve that with a more full skirt. An ankle length half-circle skirt made of a waterproof fabric would address the downsides you noted, although fuller skirts are more 'flighty' in high winds.

    • @roberthammenrudh
      @roberthammenrudh Місяць тому

      Hi 👋🏻, i believe that the guy line should be parallel/in line with the arc pole to support the pole in wind from side direction. The end additional guy line support the wind from another angle and length wise so the angle are not that important. I’ve seen all different kind of solution but the best is if you add separate guy line and stakes for each one to make it stronger, and about and at least 50 cm. That’s my two cents anyways.
