All Weather Phone Hack!
When you need your phone to use and charge in all conditions, this is a cheap effective way to keep them battery and miles going! It works with Quadlock/Rokform mounts as well. I always keep a few baggies in a saddlebag for such occasions. Keep motorcycling and have a happy New Year!

Wild Ass Seat Cushion Review... Fact or Fiction?
When I said you videos were to long , this is not result I expected LOL. Nice Hack though
Lol, had to film it with the camera so UA-cam didn't want to short it... Such is life 😆
Sounds good, currently looking at options for mine. Is this the 2.5" option?
I like it (not an exhaust aficionado mind you, but my Harley friends say it sounds good). It's the 4.5" version, which is really just the 4" with a sleeve on the end to make it bigger. Cheers!
Do you have a video for the valve adjustment thanks
I do not. I opted to have the valves done by the dealer while still under warranty. I believe this video ua-cam.com/video/MXZJ5751-So/v-deo.html is the only one I've seen of the process. Hope that helps!
Pretty bad ass man!
It'll be a fun little beer mule for sure!
Side Eye was over you talking to yourself out loud while riding around with a camera on you new wheels!
Wait, that's not what everyone does!? Weird, guess I'm used to it now 😆
A buddy and I rode over there a few years back.
It's kinda out in the middle of nowhere, but it gave me an excuse to go south on 59 (which I've gone north on 100 times), and it was a totally different experience. Little oddities are a good way to experience new roads or roads in a different way you may not otherwise have a reason to.
Busted!!! I saw your reading directions.... LOL, luckily it is not a "Man Card" offence these days. So yes, you get to retain your Man Card membership!!!
Hah, I always read all the instructions. Even so I end up measuring twice and cutting three times 🤪
@Chasing.Adventure I can relate.
I like the wood deck. The side racks would look cool with wood panels filling in the openings .
I poked around on the website and thought the wood rack filler was an add-on (I think it was on previous versions). Pretty neat! I've used ammo cans for things before, and it looks like a 40mm can is an almost perfect size for a side case.... bike looks a bit "military" so may look into mounting some back there. I told Sarah this is much more likely to become a frankenbike than my actual motorcycle lol.
I have an R18B and have been looking at the klock werks, and based on your video, look to live right down the road from you in Lowell. We should ride sometime.
Full disclosure, I didn't have a problem Iron Butting the R18B before changes. I'd tell everyone if you're going to upgrade anything, get the brentune (and sissy bar if you have someone back there). The ebay winglets I got did help, but compbined with the KW windscreen for me it created an airflow but bubble that seems to be great. Super subjective, but talk to me in 6 months after I do a bunch of 80MPH miles with it on there. Yea man! We're in Centerton. We literally saw the first other R18, a TC, in the wild at Bikefest Lake of the Ozarks this year. I'll be doing solo stuff all winter, but Spring Fling is usually the "start of the season" in general. Hit me up and we can hang out!
It’s interesting to read about the different opinions of this windshield. My bike seems to be set up similarly to yours with the Helibars, which are fantastic handlebars and the KW screen. I made multiple rides back to back, taking off the OEM and putting on the KW, then back to the OEM, KW, etc. I’m 5-11, BTW. I also installed the TC’s adjustable winglets (also fog lights). :-). For me, the KW screen is no better than the OEM for wind/Buffet protection. I mostly like to ride with my Shoei NT II visor flipped up, and at freeway speeds, it seems that the wind is catching under my visor and shaking my head hard. It causes my vision to be slightly blurred, which is not at all a pleasant experience. The issue is all of the other screens look like crap on the bagger. The bagger is not my long-distance bike, so I live with it. I love how it looks, and it handles great. It takes time to learn how to ride it, especially at low speeds. And like many cruisers, expect to scrape on corners 😊
I think ergonomics and wind protection are incredibly subjective. Any time I make a video about such things, I try to disclaimer YMMV over and over because not only do people's size and shape vary wildly, but their preference and tolerance vary even more wildly. I think the winglets do more for the bike's buffeting issues than the screen, but I also wasn't too fussed without either beforehand. I got ebay winglets (mostly because I didn't want to spend the $400 on the BMW ones, thought the folding thing was a bit unnecessary, and the tinted stuff just kinda fades into the bike). Winglets + screen change does seem to make for a cleaner experience. I haven't had a chance to do something gnarly with the screen yet. I usually have my visor up when the weather is right.... but it won't be for many months here. We shall see. for refence I also use a Neotec 2. Appreciate the experience! The more folks ride, the more they understand how comfort is a personal journey!
Great video! Keep them coming. Please make a performance video after the DNA filter exhaust, and tune what the gains are: sound, MPG, etc. Make a video about those things, please, because I'm thinking of doing all that to my TC.
Thanks! In terms of performance gains, I would hazard a guess that you wouldn't really notice much from the DNA filter and exhaust. I did both of those (along with servo buddies) mostly to get heat out of the motor. The FP exhaust sounds great, but the tune is really what changed the dynamics of the bike. I did all three within a few months of each other, but the tune definitely livens up rock mode, fixes the idle issues, and richens up the bike to prevent heat issues. In terms of MPG, I run in rock mode 95% of the time. I do change the tune back to factory when I go for a yearly check at the dealer (about 2.5 hours away), and the difference in MPG between tuned vs stock in rock mode is about 7MPG. I say that because if I'm doing a long haul IBA kind of ride I will switch to roll mode on the highway to extend gas stops. Roll mode with and without the tune seems very similar at 40-42MPG. In terms of sound, it doesn't translate well on video, but I did post a sound video. ua-cam.com/video/WQisGV2TUZ8/v-deo.html
Hi, I must say you are very neat and organized in your garage. The way it should be imo. I just purchased a 2023 R18 and plan to change the oil however as I understand the oil light reset has to be done with a scanner. Can you please shine any light on the subject? Thank you very much and I will keep watching your videos. Felix
Thanks, yea I generally try to put everything where it belongs when I'm done. Can't stand tools and stuff piled up somewhere. On the service light, yes it will come on yearly or when you approach the service mileage (whichever comes first). I personally use a Hex GS-911 www.hexgs911.com/, which allows you to read and clear codes as well as change the service interval altogether (I just set my date and mileage out a long way because the pop up is really large and annoying and I know when I need to do maintenance). That is $300-400 I think depending on which unit you get. I had a 10 VIN one already from previous BMW bikes, but if you know you will own any BMWs for years, it's sort of the official tool so always works. If you have an android phone, I understand there are OBD tools and apps that can do the job as well. I use an iPhone so didn't have that option. The R18 forums have a pretty lengthy thread on the subject that may be helpful www.r18forums.com/threads/anyone-know-if-this-will-clear-the-factory-service-codes.686/#post-10252. Good luck! Welcome to R18 life!!
first; why are you getting this bike; any extras?? Its worse then. Walmart. Falling prices!! Worse
It's good to hear that Klockwerks has come up with a windscreen for that bike. I bought a leftover 2022 R18B in late 2023 and just couldn't make friends with it, primarily because of the buffeting from the OEM windscreen. I bought a TC screen and it wasn't any better.. tried a little adjustable air dam on the OEM screen and I just couldn't make it any better. I ended up selling it and buying a K1600B.. which now has a Klockwerks screen on it. Thanks for the content!
Yea, going to depend on preference, height, etc. Like I say, didn't really have an issue with the stock screen, added some ebay winglets to the fairing, which seemed to smooth it out a bit, and this goes further. I'd actually like to test a K16 just to see what it's like. Not exactly in my wheelhouse looks wise, but I assume it would be better for several days out on the road. Thanks for watching!
The new windscreen looks sharp on the R18!
I dig it so far!
Old school biker party's are gone forever, they will never come back.
On my RK the flare on the windshield makes a world of difference.
Also. The slight change in profile is a plus in my eyes.
Yea, I'm more used to the straight up and down windshields on less faired bikes, so not something I've really considered in the past. It makes sense that it would throw air up higher, kinda impressed by how much it does so.
Thanks for this. I’ll pick one up next season to try out on my tc. Tc screen blocks air really well but it’s right in my line of sight.
Yea, I test rode a TC when I was shopping in 2022, and it was a bit much. I'd say this one is right under my LOS.
That windshield looks good on your bike.
Thanks sir!
Greetings Chasing Adventure, I just purchased a 2022 R18 B with 1100 miles from the local BMW dealership. Someone who purchased this bike basically added every option that was available to their purchase. I still have over a year of full limited warranty (6 months of what they called "Demo warranty addition" was added). Compared to new I saved a *Fortune* on this bike. Watching this video was fascinating for me. I do NOT have any time on this bike as of yet, though I have enough to finally *Absolutely LOVE my new ride!!* Other than a coffee mug holder for the morning portion of any ride, I find I want to leave things be for awhile. (OH! The original purchaser put the chrome engine guards with the top rest for highway riding. I LOVE that particular style best. Living in North Carolina, I found the pressure to have a Harley Davidson to be quite strong among the riding community. I do know, though, that out in the country, a careless maneuver can incense a group of them Harley types. I'm hoping this bike will help me to avoid the drama in that regard. Finally, I plan to rewatch your video in order to better understand the "heat warning" issue you experienced and the remedy you added(BTMoto Tuner?) Thank you for your share.....,
I hated missing this. I hope everyone had a great time.
Luckily there will be more 🤘
Sorry we missed looked like a great time
Thanks for sharing this event!
Heck yea, they do 5 I think events a year. Y'all should come down for one!
At least it wasn’t pouring! Nice group showed up!
For sure! It was really touch and go there until the day before. 24 folks came out (was really 60 degrees, overcast, foggy in the mountains), which was way better than we expected!
Thank You for letting Izzy be in one of the photos it helped
Heck yea! Bring her whenever! Cool kid, and appreciate the photography 🤘
Showing up at a bike rally in a pickup truck? That pretty much says it all!
These campground style rallies are like a well kept secret that we tell everyone about. Sure they dont get the popularity of main street rallies but I always have more fun at the campground and I like the people better.
Right. I'm always on the fence about advertising. I want more people to participate and for them to make money to keep it going, but I also don't want it to change or scare the squares haha.
Riding today is a fad not a lifestyle. Most people go out and buy a new scoot because some of their friends have bikes and they want to be a cool kid. On average 4 out of 5 of those same people quit riding because it’s not what they thought it would be. For us old farts, I’m 74 and started riding 62 years ago, it’s in my bones not just a fun gig I don’t ride to have friends, In fact I travel with one of my buddies who’s still alive. I’d rather ride alone most of the time so I can clear my head from all the crap life throws at you anymore.
I've met plenty of 20-40 somethings that live (as much as they can) for riding. Granted, being in a community that lends itself to finding folks that do so helps a lot. We were all new at some point. The folks that encouraged me, kept in touch, invited me to things, etc. were the veterans that lit the fire. I feel like that same encouragement for anyone who rides, 1 month, 1 year, whatever is what brings folks into the fold. Sure, a lot will drop out for whatever reason, but everyone with itch could end up being a lifelong rider. I ride 80% solo, 15% with the wife on the back, and 5% with others (that others part has been going up over time). Definitely still enjoy the catharsis of just going off somewhere alone, but the miles themselves with others get about 90% of the way there most of the time. That is all to say that there can be "exclusive" corners of the motorcycling world, but I don't personally see any reason to gatekeep the idea of riding, be it weekend warriors, new folks, etc. We're all just out trying to keep the shiny side up, as long as you aren't riding like someone with a death wish.
@ I’m sure you can find those 20-40 aged riders at any rally on any given weekend. I see them too. And I don’t think I was pretending to be a gatekeeper for riders belonging to a group or club. And I don’t give a rats ass who rides. But I do give a crap who’s riding with me. Inexperienced riders who think they’re more experienced than they are become a disaster in the making. Yeah we all started somewhere and in our own time. But back to the point I was actually making. Out of those 20-40 aged riders group riders you see at a rally or any spot you can think of, how many of that same group will you see still riding in 4 to 5 years?? If one of them has an accident or drops their bike. If one of them gets nervous about riding or decides the bike and insurance payments are beyond their means they sell the bike and quit riding.
The bikes are more sophisticated, the people are weaker. People used to ride to a rally. Today the rallies are trailer conventions and the trailers happen to have bikes in them. The mind set of the crowed is different. Used to be people showed up after a long ride, rested and partied. Then made the long ride back home. Nobody had store bought "motorcycle outfits" because no stores sold such. They wore what they could find that made the ride more comfortable. Harley dealers also sold other brands under the same roof. It was easier to find a Triumph or Honda T-shirt than a Harley T-shirt. It was a time when few homes and work places had air conditioning. If it was hot, you were hot, indoors or out. The rallies today try to force the crowd into what they think the old rallies were like. When all they really are is scheduled events in which people pay to attend. A commercial reenactment for Cos players. The old rallies had no schedule except be at this location at a certain date. No events planed, no shows planed. It all just happened once riders showed up. Such events cannot be planned or marketed. I am so old I went to Sturgis when it was a motorcycle racing event that many spectators rode their motorcycle to. Now it is not even a venue on the motorcycle racing schedule. In one week there was hill climbing, flat track, and cross country endurance. Cross country endurance changed to Motocross, that changed to stadium trick riding on a fake dirt track. It was before any factory made a dirt bike. They modified street bikes and raced off road.
The answer to the clickbait question is evidenced in the first second of the video, by 00:01 it's crystal clear. The second clue is the word "staff". Staff just isn't a word that evokes party, old school biker or otherwise. Paid staff is more of big organized make money event. A kegger with $20 red plastic cups doesn't need staff. Me telling the world what an old school bike party is, would be as productive as me telling the world what an old school biker is. Whatever you think either of those are, if you felt comfortable driving your cage to the event where you pay $50 to play biker games then maybe you're more of a nu skool biker. Nothing wrong with that mind you. What I want to know is whether you think old school bike partying is what you saw when you were sneaking off with Dad's Easy Riders magazine? Those games looked fun, but not nearly as fun as the titties that made you to keep sneaking off with that mag. For the record, old school bike partying started about 50 years before the 1960's and the folks that were riding in the 1910's are definitely dead. God dammit I burned my croissant while writing this snark.
I still need to make it to Depew for a rally sometime
Yea man, it's a lot of fun (not so much when its 100+ degrees...). I'd say it's really like a smaller, probably more off the cuff version of Buckhorn honestly.
You definitely need to make it down for one
It's apparent that younger people aren't getting into motorcycling at the same rates as we old codgers were. So, fewer younger people on bikes, while older riders are dropping out the end of the pipe. The result is the mean age of motorcyclists in the USA is probably around 60 today. I say "probably" because the motorcycle industry tracks the demographics, and they don't want it known that participation in motorcycling is decreasing. What's more, today's young people seem to be more interested in virtual electronic communities played with their thumbs, and less interested in real world get-togethers.
😜🤪😎👍✌
Cool, it would have been nice to see and hear some the reactions of some of the fellow campers. Seems like it serves its purpose well.
Yea, I'm pretty bad about filming when I'm occupied haha. Most people thought it was a cool idea. Some were a bit skeptical, but after a couple of days of heavy winds, they seemed to come around. I'm going to make a few changes over the cold months to the basic setup and see how it goes in the Spring.
Sure, beats buying a toy hauler. What is total investment? Also, is that a 10ft or 12 ft trailer?
For sure (well, assuming it works as planned, which we will find out tomorrow night haha). Hmm, I did the front frame over a year ago, but if I had to ballpark: $100-150 in lumber, basically treated 2x4s and some cedar fence pickets, tarp would vary depending on thickness, I used 20mm tarp and used a 16x20 foot for the top piece and a 10x12 foot for what I had left, which total was $115. I'm not sure how many, but something like 160 feet of the heavy duty 3M velcro which was $17 per 20 feet or thereabout, and the hardware to secure to the trailer, maybe $30? I'd guess somewhere in the $300-400 range. It's a 6.5x10 foot trailer, though if I knew I was going to do this I would have gotten a 12 foot honestly.
@@Chasing.Adventure Thanks for the reply. So, all in under 3K including cost of trailer which I am guessing was right at 2k (Rual King price) and you can haul the bike on it too... Good deal!!
@@xanbiker It's a PJ Trailers U7 (77"x10') and it seems like I paid something between $1,500-2,000. So yea definitely under $3,000. We are planning on adding a generator/inverter and AC unit to it before we get back to camping next year, assuming it works out as it stands. We've looked at enclosed trailers and toy haulers, but with a Tacoma, I can't pull something gigantic, and even a 14 foot toy hauler is $30,000+. Obviously much more "equipped", but I don't really ever plan on spending much time outside of sleeping in such things when I'm out camping.
Pretty interesting! Great thinking!
I like the basics of it. Great job .
Gracias, yea there are things I would do differently from scratch (the top cover tarp was basically a two week nightmare), but a few hundred bucks added onto a utility trailer than packs down into a tote in the truck bed with the air mattress, rug, etc. is nice. The goal was to shrink the footprint a bit (not always a problem, but when we have X by Y feet of space it's nice), negate the need to "find a good tent spot", and not weight 26,000 pounds + not cost $100,000. Seems like it will fit the bill and be easier to cool when tents are just masochistic.
@@Chasing.Adventure can we see it in travel mode?
@@journeyofjerry820 Yep, planning on doing a wrap up when we roll out and use it this weekend. I'll break the frame down and strap it in Thursday or Friday most likely.
🥸$$👍
Hi, I have a BMW R9T and I want to upgrade to a R18B similar to yours. I just saw your video and I see the same thing that happened to me with my BMW R9T. They are easy to maintain and the dealerships are very expensive for the maintenance service. I ask you how you deleted the service notice that appears on the motorcycle screen every time you perform the service yourself. Thanks for the information, your videos are very good.
I actually came from an R9T. I loved the bike, but it was a couple of years after a wreck that took me out of commission. Didn't know how much I would ride.... then started riding a whole lot and it is a terrible touring bike lol. I have a Hex GS-911 diagnostic tool. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07994V1G5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I actually bought it when I got the R9T, and was planning on having BMWs for the foreseeable future, so 10 VINs and it's (as far as I'm aware) basically what the dealers use. If you are on android (I use iphones)it seems like there are cheaper app+generic diagnostic tool options. I can't speak to their features or capability though. If you want to crush some miles, the R18 is great!
I am going to recommend putting some structure between the front and rear frames to support the tarp and keep it from sagging, especially during rainy weather.
Yea, it was a bit of a compromise between a bunch of framing to tear down/put up and how well it will handle adverse conditions. We tried to get it as tightly stretched as possible without making it impossible to velcro together. The plan is to leave it hitched to the truck, and run guy from the tarp grommets to the cleats on the truck bed cover on one side and do the same on the other side either to out pop up tent or just staked into the ground. We shall see. There is about a 0% chance of rain where we are camping next weekend, so it should be a good time to see how it works in practice in ideal conditions.
Coming together!
Slowly... mostly surely lol. I'll believe it when we finish the rest of the tarp parts this weekend and get it all set up 😅
Pretty cool buddy 👊🏼😎
We shall see lol
Really neat idea . I can’t wait for the updates !
We will see how it plays out. Regular tents have their drawbacks, campers have their drawbacks. Hopefully this will be a fairly lightweight "tow the bike, turn into sleeping quarters" thing that we aren't sleeping on the ground and can air condition reasonably well for all these campouts when it's 100 degrees. Fingers crossed!
Pretty damned cool dude.😎
We shall see lol. I'm pretty decent at ideas, it's the execution that can sometimes be the problem 😆
@@Chasing.Adventure i understand that my dude! me too.
That’s Deeeep sounding!
Haha I'm no exhaust aficionado, I just like bike sounds. Boxers have always sounded to me (at speed) like an A-10 Warthog firing its nose cannon, which just ticks my boxes as a kid who grew up during Desert Storm 😆
Thanks for putting this up on your channel. I understand it's different in person as I recorded my exhaust after new headers and removing the CAT. It also didn't translate well. Anyway, I like the sound of your R18 even through UA-cam. Sounds much better than stock....Well Done!
No problem. It's very quiet stock, especially with the exhaust flaps. I like the sound personally, but I'm also not a v-twin potato potato aficionado 😅
@@Chasing.Adventure some of my riding buddies have multiple bikes some of which are of the potato potato variety. I like both the inline 4 sportbike sound and the rumble of the V-twins with serious cams and pipes. With that said, they are really only fun on start up or when purposely ripping on them. The longer rides with those bikes can definitely get annoying after a while. Not to mention you're neighbors will begin hating on you when you head out on a Saturday morning at 6:30am to beat the heat of those Summer rides.
@@Texas2Tires Yea, a good thing about the R18 or any bike with ride modes probably, is if you're just chewing up miles you can flip it to Roll mode, quiet it down, and get 7 more MPG. If I'm on the interstate, I'm in roll mode enjoying my music in my helmet.
@@Chasing.Adventure very true. I ride around 100% of the time in Dynamic Pro on my RS. The only time I switch out is if I accidentally get caught in the rain, then rain mode it is. Dynamic and Road mode never get used on my bike. Mostly because I'm always riding in the twisties in Austin's Hill Country. Rarely am I munching miles on the freeway. But I too jam out listening to tunes in my shoei Neotech Sena SRL Mesh with the Harman Kardon speakers.
@@Texas2Tires I'm in Rock mode 95% of the time, and really only switch to Rain if it's literally pouring. I find that the change in throttle response can be more of a distraction than the conditions if they aren't too bad. Honestly never really used Roll until I discovered it helped MPG so much on 1000+ mile days and allowed me to stretch 50ish more miles out of a tank. (Rock = Sport, Roll = Normal, Rain = Rain FYI in terms of most bikes). I think Rock and Roll are closer together with the stock tune, but the BTmoto tune creates a lot more separation between the two.
Cheeky license plate. I approve
You know, I've never had a cosmetic plate (prior to this), and I originally sent in for BOX3R.... but it was rejected because "can't have numbers imitating letters". Funny enough I think this version is better anyway haha.
I love you, thank you for this.
No problem!
Nice overview. The R18 gets a lot of bad press especially when they first came out. I ignored all the shade until I was able to test ride one. I rode a R18 B. I have to say I really enjoyed the ride. The only down sides of the bike that I could see is the inability to setup forward controls for those used to Harleys and the exhaust sound. With that in mind, do you have a video with the exhaust sound from your new pipes and tune? The stock sound is less than inspiring, so it would be cool to hear your pipes. Thanks
Yea, that's pretty much what I say to everyone (98% cruisers around here). It's a great bike unless you need forward controls. I personally have always had standard or slightly sporty controls, so it feels normal to me. I have not ever tried to record the exhaust, but I certainly can. Always think exhaust translates different in videos, but setting a camera up behind the bike and firing it up is a pretty easy task. Might upload something today!
@@Chasing.Adventure thanks for sharing your insights and experiences with the R18. My local BMW dealer has a R18 B in black with red pin stripping. It's really temping me to grab it. Let me know if you end up recording the exhaust. I'd love to hear it. Question, does your exhaust have baffles in and CAT attached?
@@Texas2Tires ua-cam.com/video/WQisGV2TUZ8/v-deo.html Just uploaded it. Being real, it sounds next to nothing like in real life. That's no baffles, stock headers with cats, exhaust flaps disabled (open), rock mode, BTmoto tune, Freedom Performance 4.5" slip ons. I love my bike, and having done a couple of IBA rides on it, I personally don't find the foot controls/position to be a problem. I'm 6'1" 200 pounds, and to me comfort is about being able to change positions slightly as needed, YMMV.
How did you get the saddlebag wiring disconnected
There are wires on each bag for the speaker/light. They run through 2-3 zip tie holders, and are plugged under the seat. Take the seat off, unplug them, snip the zip ties, should be good to go.
