Unboxing a Pair of Awesome Sticks From @hockeystickman1240

Thank you @hockeystickman! These sticks are fantastic! I can't wait to get them on the ice. Super super light, and I absolutely love the blacked out look. I've been using their pro blackout extra light player stick for almost 2 years now, and it's the most durable and lightest stick I've ever had. If you're looking for the right mix of affordability, high quality construction, durability, and w...

    Had a really rough game last night. Rebound control is a huge issue for me. I usually make the first save but then I lose my composure and feel like I’m falling back on my heels when I’m in butterfly, to where I can’t find my edges and just end up being really late. And my hands are a mess. I holster them when I make saves. Great video. I don’t have anyone to drill this kinda stuff with but watching this footage is really helpful.

    Just ordered, only thing that would be nice is a drawing of a goalie in net so you can mark were the goals are going in and where the saves are. Personally think that and marking were the shot came from on the ice go hand in hand.

    I am 5'5 and used to use a 24 size paddle. I recently went down to a Size 22 paddle and not only is my stick lighter, I have more control of my stick and my stance is more balanced between Glove vs Blocker + Stick

    Beer league goalie same ? I have trouble on ice ice pregame warmup - players most are idiots on shots- comments ?

    • @thementalgoalie
      @thementalgoalie 7 місяців тому

      Beer league is tough to warm up on the ice for, shots are going everywhere. When I play men's league, I try to do my visualization, hand eye and stretching off the ice as much as possible. If I do take warm up shots, I maintain my stance the whole time and just focus on tracking the puck into my body.

    • @thementalgoalie
      @thementalgoalie Рік тому

      He's in a more passive stance as he comes across the paint. The issue is not stick on the ice, but rather blocker extension. If he projects his hands more, then the stick falls to the ice naturally when he drops. Thanks for commenting

    • @DrSnackCake5
      @DrSnackCake5 Рік тому

      @@thementalgoalieI get it’s a drill, but goalies need to be ready at all times. There no telling when there will be a deflection. I can’t count how many times if a goalie just had his stick on the ground the puck wouldn’t have gone in so easily. You see it all the time in the NHL. I’m sorry but I’m a bit more older class style goalie and in my day it’s considered lazy. To each their own.

    • @thementalgoalie
      @thementalgoalie Рік тому

      @@DrSnackCake5 I appreciate your response. Nowadays, the style is definitely shifted. Passive stances are a little more upright and we see guys at the highest levels moving around the net with their stick not in contact with the ice, but with enough blocker projection to let it drop when they fall. The only thing I would disagree with is calling it lazy, just different styles for different players.

    In 0:54 how do you play a shot like that and control the rebound without getting a stick on it and leaving it in the middle. Thank you

    • @thementalgoalie
      @thementalgoalie Рік тому

      Great question! Angle of the stick is important here. The goalie in the video should angle his stick blade and paddle more toward the glove side corner in anticipation of controlling the rebound. These are hard shots to control the rebound on, but a little bit of pre shot prep, making sure your stick is at a good angle, will make a huge difference.

    • @rafahockey10
      @rafahockey10 Рік тому

      Oh thanks but what if its a soft shot heading toward the far pad and you’re not able to lift it to the corner since it’s so soft.

    • @thementalgoalie
      @thementalgoalie Рік тому

      @@rafahockey10 If it's a soft enough shot, then controlling it by stopping it and covering it up would be the best option. There's never anything wrong with controlling it on the stick blade then going for the cover up!
