    Have you ever met someone who confidently believes they're an expert in a field but clearly lacks the skills to back it up? Or, on the other hand, felt yourself doubting your own expertise despite years of experience? This is where the Dunning-Kruger Effect comes into play-a fascinating cognitive bias that impacts everyone, whether we realize it or not. In this short documentary, we dive deep into the psychology behind the Dunning-Kruger Effect, exploring how it influences people's self-perceptions, decision-making, and even the spread of misinformation. Created by Brainpsychlopedia, this video examines the groundbreaking work of psychologists David Dunning and Justin Kruger, who uncovered how individuals with lower ability tend to overestimate their competence, while those with higher skill levels often underestimate their capabilities. 📚 Resources: 🟡 Kruger, J., & Dunning, D. Yes indeed, the Iowa Gambling Task (IGT) can be used to examine decision-making processes in healthy individuals, not just those with impairments or disorders. The IGT was originally developed to study decision-making in individuals with damage to the ventromedial prefrontal cortex, but it has since been widely used in various research contexts, including studies involving healthy participants.

    I did some tests and it was detected that I have some problems with these types of interference. One question: is there any system or way to deal with this, besides the obvious one of making checklists or having an alarm clock for things we might forget?

    • @Brainpsychlopedia.official
      @Brainpsychlopedia.official 3 місяці тому

      Dealing with interference can be challenging, but there are several approaches that might help beyond the usual checklists and reminders. You could try strengthening your cognitive abilities through cognitive exercises (e.g., memory games, puzzles etc) or adjust the environment to minimize distractions. Behavioural strategies, like breaking tasks into smaller steps, might also be useful. Additionally, using technology to organise and manage tasks can help reduce interference and keep you focused on what's important. In case if you are interested in simple evidence-based memorisation techniques than I have a video here: ua-cam.com/video/JJ0iaAvyoRs/v-deo.html Hope this helps! Good luck.

    What is its purpose? I am shocked at hard it is. I have always not that I suck at canceling something when I plan to say something and quickly change my mind. But, I say it any way. But, what does that odd inability to cancel a move mean? Why test this? (I got surprised with an assignment to do this task for a weight loss study.)

    • @Brainpsychlopedia.official
      @Brainpsychlopedia.official 5 місяців тому

      Hi! The purpose of the Stop Signal Task (SST) is to measure the response time of the brain to inhibit prepotent actions. For instance, if we already initiate an action and are suddenly presented with a stop signal, can we stop the behavior? Each one of us will vary in how long we take to stop the action and/or if we are able to stop the action in the first place. Thus, it's normal to find SST challenging as it involves overriding automatic responses. This difficulty reflects natural variability in cognitive control abilities among individuals. So, it is a classic experimental task used for decades in psychology research to measure response inhibition (or impulse control). Being able to stop or inhibit an action is important in many cases. For example, being able to inhibit the desire to consume an addictive substance or sticking to a strict diet plan or inhibiting excessive use of electronic devices are all situations where one might need to exercise their inhibitory control. But we observe that sometimes people are unable to do so. Thus, to investigate such situations, researchers use tasks like the Stop Signal Task to understand this. Hope this helps!
