Those listening to Suhbi may find she is speaking with Eastern Sukuma accent. My grandmother used to speak with Eastern Sukuma accent and I and my cousins used to give her hard time - we would mimic her how our grandmother was pronouncing some words. For instance she would replace "k" or "sh" with a for "j". The name "Kilala" which is central Sukuma, our grandmother would say "Jilala." As pointed before, she would just ignore us whenever we criticize how she said words or names of people.

Now I believe in any language some people use better words than others. Here Subhi is using a really beautiful word: "Lula=find" Essentially she said at 10: 44 that if you ever visited that family you will not miss anything or you find everything you need. "Ulu ushika ahakaya, nduhu ijakulula." I never used that word even when I had everything in the house.

Please listen at 10:45 clip. You might wonder why Subhi is saying: Her grandfather's home has everything you need in the world. As I commented below; all I see are 1000 cows and one good house. But I do not see expensive cars, jets etc. Is that what a Sukuma family sees as having everything! I partly agree with Subhi. Once Sukuma male gets a beautiful wife and can feed his children, they think do not need anything else. She might be right. I think this world should aim at; instead of fighting for whatever nations fight for.

Is audience not wondering how pieces of clothes Subhi was wearing at this performance? Those are a lot of clothes especially in Nzega where it's alwlays above 80 F during the day and goes down to 70 at night. Well, may be I should be careful about that for musician in USA have each special style of clothing themselves. Look, at Cindy Lauper, Willie Nelson who have strange way of clothing themselves.

This is an interesting video. In one clip Subhi claims: “If you get to grandfather’s home you will find everything you want or need. "Nduhu ijakulula." Wait a minute, I do not see fancy cars, boats, jets, big house, motorcycles etc. which you would find at really rich people in US. All I see at that home are bags of food and a lot of cattle. Now is that what you can claim this family has everything you want or need!. But this is typical difference between US and other countries. We Sukumas can be satisfied with life if we have enough food, clothing, place to sleep and of course cattle, a wife may be with a dog. Not where I live now. People here may have fancy cars, boat, big house and cash in the bank still whine are poor. Trump is a billionaire still wanted the job as president. He was not satisfied with fancy house, private jet etc. This is excellent advice from Subhi Funuki that we should try to be satisfied with whatever we have so long as we have enough food, a place to sleep to avoid harsh elements, a wife etc. Of course, I see quite a few young women at grandpa home. That may be a plus for that home if those girls get married and bring more cattle to the home. .

Here is another twist to a Sukuma music star singing Swahili words in Sukuma tune. Interesting but mind bungling. For some time, I could not understand what she was singing about although I enjoyed the tune-Sukuma. But after several times listening to the same song, I got words right - Swahili words were sung in Sukuma tune. For instance, she says: "tukashelekee". She could not sing "tukasherekee." We Sukumas don't have "Rs” in our language. So, the “r” is swapped with “l” which throws me out of sync. Then she goes saying there were "elfu mbili" but sang in Sukuma accent comes out funny and interesting. But now I have got the song right and enjoy listening to it. Sengi Milembe and Nyanda Masangwa have same problems-swapping Swahili letters with Sukuma letters where we Sukumas don’t have - but it's okay now so long as I enjoy listening to their songs. Swapping languages is not unique with us Sukumas. English people have several foreign words. .

Wait a minute -what is the name of guy herding cattle! “Jiyu!” which means literally "Tweet Bird" like in “Sylvester and Tweet Bird.” I have no idea where Sukumas get such names or who coins names for them. You remember the name “Funga Meza” which means “tighten tables”. But I am not surprised. When growing up in my village, we had a guy called “Lupandagila” means “disorganized crasher of things.” Well, we may have to live with such Sukuma names -no other choice.

Here is part translation of Suhbi song. She says, “Grandparent of the bride sent somebody that I come for the wedding.” I am not sure if person sent to invite Suhbi walked or biked. Because there were no phones or mail delivery there; they had to send real person to invite Suhbi to entertain people at the wedding. I like when she sings: “banilagilije abagukuye bantolwa- she takes time by spreading “abagukuye” and comes out beautifully. Well, to enjoy songs by Sukumas, you have to know Sukuma. It’s amazing how Sukuma stars pick just few words to convey powerful message. Thanks again Suhbi.
