Thank you and I hope the videos help👍, the cars have a few design differences to most cars but are a quality made car overall. Strong sills for one thing which is very important for a convertible. What stage are you at ? How bad is your car ?

That's a great compliment, I would suspect that it would be too expensive for me to make one the same. Perhaps a cheaper method of construction could be more viable. At what price do you think the tool would sell ? My guess is £200 would be what someone would be wiling to pay. I already had the porta power hydraulic pump and the shrinking jaws. I think it took me about 10 hours to make on a manual mill. Cnc would be the way to get the price down.

@bensclassicbodywork you'd deserve the compliment man! That tool is neat, the easy access to different panels compared to those on the market with long handles makes it extremely desirable. You should patent your idea. I'll try to fabricate mine figuring out measurements by seeing your video. Wish me luck 🤣

@@stephenisaacs2296 👍 possibly could do a video on that, will have a think if I have enough to say/ know enough about it to make a video on it. Some basic info: psi at the compressor is 100, I don't know the nozzle pressure which is much more important. Nozzle pressure is measured with a gauge that has a needle on the end to push through the rubber blasting tube. I don't have one but need one, I also don't have a pressure regulator which could be used to reduce metal stretching. The compressor size is 120cfm and the nozzle size is 1/4" There are tables online to show how you select a nozzle size for the cfm compressor you have but a nozzle pressure gauge is the right way to get the most out of your setup. Just replying to this message is suggesting to me perhaps I should do a video 😆 Blasting Pot is an old hodge Clemco with a screw type metering valve, it works but there are newer designs that work better.

@@bensclassicbodywork Yeah the tungsten is a good idea. I've been using steel tube and angle iron as cut rails / fence for cutting plywood for years. I have a dedicated 30" and 60" and also use a 1.5" x 1" x 96" tube for long cuts. For sheet metal though, I've used a bolt in the grinder with a small fabbed L attached to the bolt to press it up against the fence. (so you just pinch the L up against your angle iron or tube fence and help guide it as you cut). It works ok in a pinch only because I don't cut a lot of sheet metal. Cheers.

Hi Bob, I'm afraid that's the case most of the time isn't it. Im guilty of doing that too, but I nearly always end up with the expensive version in the end, you get what you pay for most of the time. Yes I watched the one from Dave's Garage, his videos are very popular and he's a nice guy. I have commented on a few of his videos. There are a few car channels I keep an eye on, really out of interest to see how well they are doing on UA-cam. 😉 I sometimes find it hard to watch if they do something I would do differently. I expect the coach-builders would say the same about how I do things 😆 We've all got our own place within the spectrum of ability's and knowledge.

Exactly right, it's a tricky business, glad I'm not the only one who has this problem. I remember when I first started my estimates were way off. They are better but still pretty bad. 😆I do think the tool will help avoid massive mistakes, I'll certainly take it with me when pricing and make the most of it.

$1000 would only buy the wheels in the uk but sometimes it's about the long term plan or the desire to save another classic car from being scrapped. This one was rusty but it had no accident damage through its life. Restoring classics rarely results in a good financial decision unless you are lucky, it's more about having or saving a car that you really want.

This was my first encounter with a Alfa spider, it was interesting learning about the cars and how they are put together. Sills are very strong which is something not all convertibles managed. Some English convertible cars I know will bend enough when jacked up to open doors. Alfa got it right and I suspect that's also why it has a good reputation for handling. Love the fact the engine came as standard with side draught carbs. I'm sure we will get to see the car finished.

Yeah it was certainly daunting, particularly when you've never worked on that type of car before. Certain design decisions were different to other cars which made it interesting.

I hope to continue adding videos and I'm glad they are of use. There will be good projects going on to make videos from. It's hard to get views, a lot of competition on the subject I think. Of course the bigger the channel, the better the videos do, it just takes time to build up subscribers. Making the thumbnails and titles attractive without resorting to click bait is tricky. I find how the UA-cam algorithm works quite interesting. 🙂

@@alastairwatson3201 That's so nice to hear that the videos of the Alfa were of so much interest. 😊 In terms of a huge project I've got the CSL BMW to get on with, that will be going to the same level as the Alfa. I've got a vw beetle which is also a big project. I've got a Porsche 944 coming in February, few bits of welding on that but isn't too bad and I've priced a triumph spitfire which is also a fairly big job. The usual classic vw camper vans as well with jobs going on. Nothing Alfa Romeo in the pipeline unfortunately but I hope to continue with the videos. All the feedback is really nice and the channel is quite good to have when you get approached by a new customer. You don't have to sell yourself, you can say if you want to know more about me and the work I do have a look at the videos. Can't get much better than video advertising I'd say.

Sad to hear about the scrapped car but I suppose it was a little while back now and they can't all be kept. Glad the videos have been of use. Panels can sway about a bit when spraying depending on the weight of course. Small ones definitely do, I have used another hook hanging on the bottom before to prevent that. Either hanging a heavy weight or I just pull down with my other hand. Panel stands are good but I like being able to spray both sides at once. My gun pressure is always 40psi and I don't restrict the airflow, a large fan pattern does reduce the air velocity out the air cap.

It was a mission for sure, what was nice about it is that there wasn't any accident damage or loads of bad repairs. Usually there is a lifetime of repair patches to undo before restoration can begin. Not so with this car, it certainly was rusty though.

@@maki.maki500istotakonieczna Mine are inches ? In the uk we usually have mixture of metric and imperial, a complete pain. When it comes to precision engineering I always use metric.

@@bensclassicbodywork I imagine that if 100 can be divided by 1 liter kilogram height of atmospheric pressure and in your system if I wanted a few liters of fuel plus one kilogram of luggage 1 m height One bar then I would have to calculate everything on separate principles so you must have an easier way of thinking it's strange that you don't protest

Yes it isn't simple to rust proof up there. Paint where you can and where you can't I did see a video by my mechanics insights where he injected paint via a hose. You can perhaps wax up there but you don't want the heat of the sun causing the wax to melt and drip on the interior. Also you can't wax where interior is to be bonded via contact adhesive. Tricky but it rusted so badly because the roof started to leak, it would normally only be exposed to condensation. Might try the Paint injection, will have a think.
