A whole year with my best boy...What a year he's given me. He's shown me a new side to horses, allowed me to do what I want and changed my entire direction in life. We've gone from 2 foot 6 unaffiliated to qualifying for championships in Newcomers, to going consistently well pre-novice BE, looking to move up to Novice next month. He's won events, qualified for championships, won the derby at Da...

Its been 7 years since I first got Willow on loan. My first horse. Despite my ups and downs, we've had a blissful 7 years, playing ponies without much of a care in the world. Since I was 5, I wanted to jump affiliated eventing. I wanted to go to the olympics. To make horses my life. With the problems we had, I forgot about this. All I wanted to do was enjoy a peaceful relationship with Lacey an...

I am an extremely extremely lucky person to have managed to find this incredible horse on loan. He's a 16.1hh 13 year old dutch warmblood gelding with Ladykiller/Ahorn lines. He is the kindest, most generous horse I've ever ridden. Jumps 1.25m at home for fun. He's done a fair bit of BSJA up to discovery and would go on, but has also done British Eventing. I took him to my first ever affiliated...

She's coming on sooooo well :D If you have any questions, feel free to ask, but heres 2 answers to some I know I'm gonna get. 1. The mask/blinker type things is called a pacifer. The idea of it is that it means the horse can't see whats above them, and apparantly this makes it much more unlikely for them to rear. With Lacey, it was used to break up the cycle of her rearing, and she's slowly bei...

Did I just ding your UA-cam?
Did you do it?
I just came across this video again after 7years! I used to watch all your videos and was so invested in your journey with Lacey. You were an amazing rider and had so much patience. Do you have any other social media? Id love to see how your getting on now x
Hi - thank you! I do write a blog now about my current horse. It doesn’t take as much time haha jksnijder.blogspot.co.uk
Can't believe its that long ago!!!! Do you still have her?
Hi, no. We retired her as the issues just kept coming back and I felt it was too dangerous to push it when I had other horses to ride. After s couple of years my mum died suddenly and I couldn’t afford or manage 4 horses by myself so I had her put to sleep in the end. I didn’t feel I could rehome her safely without risking her being passed round and round so I felt it was the right decision.
Honestly this is so encouraging to me. My horse can be such a little jerk at times and I KNOW she can do what I am asking her to do, she just won't for me.
i bet nobody asks you if they can ride your horse lol
she is naughty lol but she is a beauty and you have mastered her naughtyness lol WELL DONE
She is so beautiful ❤
great seat
Stupid people ruin horses.
Maybe you should take the spurs off and ride a horse big enough to carry you.
aren't you charming, I mean this video is only 7 years old hehehe
+beautifullace how did you solve the problem in the end? My mare does this and I'm at my wits end :(
How did you stop this
He is separation anxoity, i have one exatly alyke all that shit your "horsmanship man" are doing is not going to Work unless hes doing it not to get rid of the rearing, but to get rit of the separation anxioty, becaurse thas the real problem :) the rearing WILL come back Again, if your not handling the sep anxioty :/ sorry to say.
beautiful horse <3
RIP Lacey, you were one in a million. Sleep right, I'll always love you and I'll never forget you xxx
Hi hunni im so sorry. what happened. Did she end up getting better?
Horseloverkooder She ended up okay to hack out and school, and perhaps with more work could of improved further but she remained unpredictable and given my other horses, and the fact I ride for a living I decided to retire her. Then my mum passed away unexpectantly last year and I had to drastically downscale my number of horses, and unfortunately we had to decide to have her put to sleep. It was a very difficult decision but rehoming her was too risky and I just couldn't afford to keep her as a lawnmower. We did our best for her for a very long time and I miss her dearly.
Awww I understand you did the best for hers and others safety. :)
I realise this is a few years old and I don't know what happened with Lacey in the end, but have you ever tried an animal communicator (good, reputable one)? They are amazing and I was able to get a lot of insight into my horse's behaviour as a result... sometimes horses don't want to perform for us yet they try as hard as they can but don't have the disposition for tough competition, they can't speak and can only act out and it is so hard for us to understand what they are trying to communicate especially when they become dangerous. I'm riding a "dangerous" mare at the moment and so much of what I sense from her is deep sadness from her previous home and just wanting to be loved with no expectation to perform (yet). So we just hang and she doesn't have to do or be anything. We impose so much of our will on these animals.... for what?
We havn't to be honest. I still have her but she's just a pet now. Unfortunately she's a very....stress horse with huge over reactions to tiny things (like a horse stood next to her swishes its tail = freak out)/ She's physically fine now, that's just her nature. I made the decision to retire her last Autumn as she's just too unpredictable. She doesn't enjoy schooling (so won't compete again) and I ride horses for a living so I don't really have any desire to have a horse to just hack, especially when without warning it goes up on its back legs vertically 3 times in a row. It just isn't worth it to me.
beautifullace I'm really sorry to hear that it didn't work out as she is such a beauty, but at least she's still around, so many people would have put a horse like that down so she is lucky to have you, no question! Perhaps there's a reason she's still around. I really would recommend a communicator, it is a hugely powerful experience and it completely shifted how I was working with my horse (who I did have to put down sadly due to racing injuries sustained before I got him). It really helped. I'm now working with problem horses at a whole different level and even if they can't be ridden it can be a very rewarding and fascinating journey. I wish you all the best (and am very jealous that you get to ride horses for a living!!)
what about richard maxwell kelly marks monty roberts all gifted horse whisperers? id love you to try that and then film it xxx
is there any updates on Lacey?
We decided to retire her. Shortly after this video I found a girl to hack her out a few times a week as I was struggling time wise. Unfortunately she did her standing up trick with her for no reason with no warning and scared her. She had the summer off as I bought a youngster so with her and Squirrel I was too busy...Then I decided to take her for a hack, got on, and she stood up vertically twice in a row with no warning as soon as I got on. I decided to retire her after that - she's had thousands of pounds spent trying to get her right and she hasn't got the head to do anything more than hack anyway as she finds it too stressful. I have 2 eventer and ride for a living so I don't want or need anything just to hack out, and she's just too unpredictable, it's not worth the risk. I couldn't ever forgive myself if someone else rode her and got hurt (which is inevitable because when she rears, she means it). So she's just a field pet now and happy as larry.
How are you getting on with this horse now? The upload date was 2007.
We've retired her now. We worked with her for a long time, she's had thousands spent on her to try and get to the root of the problem (which we did, it was a physical problem that many 'professionals' never spotted), she was sent away for retraining and I continued to work with her for a few years after. But it eventually became clear she doesn't have the brain to compete as she finds it too stressful so is only really suitable for hacking. However she isn't a very enjoyable hack as she is very high strung, jogs most of the way. Eventually one day I tacked her up for a ride, got on and she went up vertically twice with no warning. I decided to retire her then as I have 2 horses I event, I ride others for a living - I don't particularly want or need a horse just to hack out, and she's so unpredictable and so dangerous when she does go up, I can only see one ending if I continue to ride her and its just not worth it. So she's a field pet now and very happy.
When she rears take ur hand and pop her between the ears not her face or her ear or take the end of ur crop and pop her between the ears they don't like it so they will stop rearing we had a mare who just reared and reared only one trainer could break her of it and it was by that pop no she didn't get head shy don't beat her hard enough to show her that's enough the mare went on to show and do Awsome never reared again make sure to pay and rub between her ears to when she's good so she knows
the persons that's riding isn't to blame, the horse was just a little shit in general, she had it vetted to make sure there was nothing wrong with it and there wasn't!! the horse is now a beautiful working horse! it was a phase they both needed to over come, instead of just watching 1 bad video, watch the others before judging!
Maybe you need to look at the reason WHY the horse is acting like that and not blame the horse for everything!!! people like to blame the thing that doesnt talk back!!! Dogs/Horses/Cats etc... perhaps it is the person who is riding the horse and not the horse that is to blame...
Neither of them is overweight you Idiot.
I guess you fixed the rearing problem then? She is SO cute! Love her face :)
Did you get things straightened out? She does look like an amazing horse. My pony and I are having problems and a bit change did her good the first few rides, maybe she needs something softer like a happy mouth? She could have been hit in the mouth with a harsh bit when she was in training.
Lovely video. Have you tried going bitless. Very rewarding :-)
You must have learned so much from her :'). Never give up!
Wow you two have had a amazing start to the year! Well done :) x
brilliant, good looking horse
We done what a fab start to your season x
You have lost sooooo much weight from the video last chance Lacey x
Her case is so interesting to me and I'm sure I'm not the only one who will continue to follow what happens with her. Glad that you've documented over the years.
Her expression in these early times is so different. She is like a different being.
Very nice to see her going so well - and everyone in one piece.
yeah
He's a dutch warmblood :)
is that you riding her?x
I love the fact you r not going to give up and sell her like some people do keep strong :) x
omg, a 'moment' is to put it bluntly lol. I was taught when a horse rears with one of ur reins bring it down to ur toe so her head will turn and she cant physically rear but well done for sitting that :-)
please dont give up theres to much to loose there
My pony does the exact same and I found out it was my saddle and so in the time I didn't ride I bonded so when I got a new saddle she was amazing she only naps 3 times in a ridding session now, so it could be something small like that x
1:28 omg so close!! can u use this in one of my videos? u'll get credit of course
This is so inspiring, You really done amazing with this horse, I really admire you for not giving up, I truly wish you the best of luck for the future with her
squirrel is so gorgeous! good luck this season with him :) you two look like you are getting on amazingly :)) xxx
You two look like a fabulous team!:)
Squirrel?! Same name as mine. Though I nick name him Squishy. Hehe! Looks on good form, leg in each corner and nice and neat infront over fences. So unlike my ginger beast! Good luck for the new season, may all go well.
He makes the jumps look effortless! Good luck for next weekend! xx
I just love this video.
Is Willow yours too? If so u've got a couple of stunning horses there! You have (or had) so many mishaps! Poor you! :) Good job with these horses though!
The bridle came off with u!?
WOW! Way to hold on! Your a great rider! I'm an advanced rider & don't think even I could stay on like that EVERY time! You go girl! :D
