LongleafSheepHillRanch
United States
Приєднався 26 січ 2024
Welcome to my Channel; I’m Robert Lorens. Joy (wife) and I have farmed in the longleaf pine region of southern Mississippi since 1982. Over the years our farming operation has evolved and since 1999 we have been raising sheep. In 2011 I retired from my day job and became a full time shepherd. Jeffrey (son) and Jackie (wife) bought land next to our Longleaf Sheep Farm and called it Sheep Hill Ranch. Combined, we have 480 acres of rolling hills and flatlands covered with native rangeland, improved bahiagrass pastures and cultivated fields interspersed between bottomland woods, creeks and hillside bogs. We always thought that interesting things were happening on the farms, but felt too busy to share. In 2024, I decided to do something about that and retired from fulltime shepherding. Jeffrey and Jackie now own and manage all the sheep over the two farms; I help out and produce this channel documenting all the awesome (and some not so awesome) things that are happening.
Woods SG100 Stump Grinder
After a little overview of the Woods SG100 stump grinder, I demonstrate and discuss grinding stumps with it using a John Deere 6120 tractor.

A specially built pallet lift that is towed behind an ATV is used to lift heavy objects when moving the sheep from one area to the next. Guard dogs are getting out under a fence that is too high off the ground so a couple strands of barb wire are installed under the fence.

One-ton super sacks of whole raw soybeans bought from a local soybean farmer are loaded into the “old house” onto a heavy duty, specially built dolly. WARNING-SPECIAL EDITION. Could be boring. Could be relaxing? All it is is 15 minutes of ewes in a pasture eating forage: oats, radish and vetch. No dialog. Very windy day; hence the wind noise on top of the sheep noise.

Ewe flock and hay feeders moved to new area with sheep guard dogs. CORRECTION: Athena and Odin are siblings.
What size Deere tractor? 6 series something it looks like.
It's a 6120E John Deere tractor. A bit overkill for the stump grinder. In fact, I have to be very careful about the slip clutch on 540 PTO Implements, the engine power is stronger than the transmission drive train so that if all of a sudden the PTO Implement jams there could be transmission damage. Thanks for watching.
Always plenty of projects on a farm. I do like the multiple mikes. It's nice to clearly hear what everyone is saying.
Yes, lots to do. The mikes are working well, I'm still learning in some cases. Thanks for watching.
Great video!! Pepper did awesome standing there like a Pro while Jeffrey was putting the harness on him 💙
He was a good model.
Alice is so sweet! Terrific video.
Thank you so much!
Great video!
Thanks, appreciate it.
My dad lived in midland and used grits to get rid of fire ants. When he saw activity/ nest building, he would pour a circle around nest... not disturbing the nest. They take back to nest, feed to colony... the grits expand in gut and they blow up. Said 2 weeks tops, nest is dead.
That's interesting, never heard of that before. I'll have to give that a try. I hate dealing with all the poisons.
What? and why is that on the dogs neck? ty
It is a triangle made out of PVC pipe. It discourages a dog from crawling under a fence and wandering where they shouldn't.
Nice video. The lambs are always fun to see.
Thanks
Nice work with the barb wire!
It's a good team.
The blueberry bushes look terrific. So many booms. Looks like a bumper crop this year!
Lots of berries to pick.
