as an Aussie, you must hate that place... I learned to surf in port aransas, and mustang island, back in the 80's and back in the early 90s made the wrong decision to head east instead of west LOL

I agree with lance....As a teenager I surfed Galveston and Surfside, my bro and fellow surfers at GPHS, plus would watch local tv news and call friends at Ball High for surf reports. Or call Bingo then many years later friends that had beach houses put up camera to record surf condition. Many had a gauge out on the deck, the camera could see the measuring stick and waves at same time, it gave viewers an idea of the wave size. Then came the iPhone and intertube. I purchased the first model of the iPhone just for the internet, purchased a subscription of Acutratz surfcam (surfhouse) etc. I had a long bed truck with a cover, kept 3 surfboards 5'4" 8'6" & 9' lighten bolt Craig Hollingsworth and other surf gear in the truck bed ready to go because I was in the know! I would be headed to work at Gallery Furniture and look at the surf report then call in to tell boss I was headed to the beach. On the way I would call my bro and friends, the crew cab F-250 would ride with 6 six surfers and as many or more surfboard stacked in the 8' long bed with lid down. I know I will hear from many that there is no way to have 9' longboard(s) in an 8' long truck bed and the lid cover down and locked. Can any of you guess who I am ?

How was that ground swell? Most of the strongest winds that pushed swell across from over here in Tampa Bay towards Texas originated in shallow water and didnt extend too far into the gulf with deeper water. When that happens it appears that the swell that does arrive in Texas is mostly gutless. Sunday was good on the westcoast of Fla if you know where to look and thankfully for me nobody does so i surf outside shoals all by myself. If you look online for surf pics from over here, they are from the easily accessible drive up spots that arent anywhere near the whats on offer here if you know where and when to go. As the storm was close offshore with strong winds theres nooks to find with lefthanded barrels reeling down the beach with offshore winds.

I always forget to say this, but…”Thanks, Y’all for all that you do.” I live in Tyler (North East Texas), about 4.5 hrs (or so depending on traffic, etc), so your “service” is greatly appreciated. I’m about to hit 73 years on this Earth and I rode my first waves at Surfside in 1961 (10 years old) and no matter where I’ve lived or traveled to, Surfside has always been my “home-break”. Even though my broken-down body doesn’t allow me to surf any longer, I do still grab my boogie-board when I know there are waves to be had… “Ol’ Scooter”…

I have planned a week vacation July 9 to July 13, 2024, on Mustang Island/Port Aransas. I am an insurance claims adjuster, guess it will be a working vacation?

Thanks to our local shreddledites Bronco McGursky. Bucky Backwash. Duke Kaeamakookus And Shlomo Ginsberg. After this session we shredded some curlers from a spot we call oil tankers. It 2-4 not feet but inches. So come fot some world class beach break and brisket and we'll wash it all down with a kegger of some nice cold brewskis. Yahooooo 🤠 🏄

i want to start surfing Galveston. never tried it but its always been on my mind, any tips?

I’ve been surfing in Galveston. It is hard to serve. If I did not stand up on the board. I just pretty much bodyboard. I skateboard 🛹 and thinking I could stand up but it’s a lot of practice. Lots of bails.

😂its a place where the water is brown and you better bring everything you need no store for miles bring a rope or chain and a shovel in case you get stuck in the sand hopefully someone will help if you can find anyone a shovel hopefully can help i got stuck and a cold front came in it blew my campsite away nothing i could do except wait for morning when woke up ice was on my feet from being wet good thing i was wearing a full wetsuit a with boots gloves and hat a car came at daybreak i emptied my pockets it was a jeep he pulled me to the road at the Colorado river i drove straight home never turned off the s 10 pickup i was driving i had a credit card for gas it was a close call with death the waves were great before sunset all i can say is be prepared its a place with very few people
