    I remember this game being a big deal when it was announced on the Wii VC. That was neat but I never got around to getting it due to lack of reliable way to access the eShop back then. A shame to see this show go on hiatus, but hopefully that means it'll be better than ever once it comes back! Sin & Punishment is a good game to end "season 1" on, too, Treasure tends to make crazy-good games, or at the very least, incredibly memorable games!

    Having friends over doesn't change much about this game, unfortunately. Got two other people together and... Well. NSO SNES does not support multitap emulation. You can only play with one other person. We played one round, tried things out and the other person was like: I'm good. So we put the Switch away and played Panel de Pon together.

    I owned Columns as a kid, but funnily enough not on the Mega Drive. Instead when I got my Mega CD it came with a "Mega Drive classics" disc of the original Streets of Rage, the first Golden Axe and Columns, and since I already had the first two on the Mega Drive and really didn't like puzzle games it may as well had come with a coaster. At least I also got Road Avenger with it...

      The VOD channel has been a few months behind the live recordings, but Derrick took a hiatus from NSO Game Club. The last bunch of episodes here have been catching up to where the show was currently at on the live side. He is still on that hiatus at the time I write this, so once this channel is caught up on the already-recorded episodes, the show will be gone for some unknown amount of time.

    I seem to have a different opinion from a lot of people in the comments. Palworld didn’t really have it coming; in that case, any pokemon-like, especially the ones that are ACTUALLY like pokemon (lol), have it coming. No, Palworld’s catching heat because it was about as successful as a Pokemon game and competition is unacceptable. They’d do this with like, Temtem if it sold even nearly as well. The poke ball thing or whatever game mechanic they’re suing for is ultimately unimportant. They want a reason to bully and intimidate what they perceive as competition and are honestly being pretty brazen and obvious about it…maybe to set an example. luv pokemon btw

    • @goldmemberpb
      @goldmemberpb 10 днів тому

      How is Palworld a competition for Pokemon when it is way more of an Arc clone. It would be one thing if Palworld is actually fully copying Pokemon format but it is not. They just capitalized on pokemon like design and flaunted that for attention. It feels less to do with palworld being competitive and more just Nintendo and Gamefreak not liking an arc clone being associated with their IP. Palworld being a Pokemon killer makes about as much sense as Darksiders being a Zelda killer. They are just different games despite some similarities.

    • @idiot-rz9zk
      @idiot-rz9zk 10 днів тому

      not sure if ur knowingly agreeing with my thoughts or not, but 100% agreed my friend. Tis why i said palworld isnt actually like pokemon, and why i said they only “percieve it as competiton” bc it was pokemon-level successful and ppl associate it with pokemon 🙃

    • @goldmemberpb
      @goldmemberpb 9 днів тому

      It's more of a half agree. Like Palworld probably could just exist because it is fundamentally a different game than Pokemon. They just can't really put a dent into the Pokemon franchise. But I do disagree that Gamefreak feels threatened by them in any capacity. So, i feel it is more of them flaunting their pokemon like design and associating their design to Pokemon that Gamefreak did not like. They don't want guns and violence to be part of any Pokemon discussion.

    I've seen a lot of people being weird and supporting Palworld just because they hate Pokemon that much for some reason. They can't be reasoned with either. Really sad people. I don't see how a game with no story and focuses on Ark-like gameplay is better than Pokemon. You don't see these people playing Ark. I don't see how people can say it's better when the gameplay isn't similar at all.

    • @Socioromanticism
      @Socioromanticism 10 днів тому

      I agree. I think a lot of other comments are more out of bitterness for loud Nintendo fans less than love for Palworld. Perhaps also how litigious Nintendo has been. That said, I do like what Pocketpair did with the monster-taming genre. I just wish they hadn't lifted Pokémon designs to get the game off of the ground.

  • @sirmel11
    @sirmel11 12 днів тому

  • @sirmel11
    @sirmel11 12 днів тому

    I honestly don't care if they sue Palworld. Oh well. They had similar designs and their success is only because people think it's Pokemon on other consoles. I do think going after them over something like catching isn't cool and could cause issues for other games. They couldn't get them on the designs and it feels like they're going after them for something small.

    Regarding the Switch 2, I am a bit worried that Nintendo will hit the technology ceiling the generation after it. However, I also think Nintendo is in a unique position with them having hybrid consoles. If they release a mid-gen refresh for Switch 2 that’s smaller and has longer battery life, then I could see the console after (the Switch 3 let’s say) being able to connect to cellular networks and having only a small boost in power and still selling really well. Still, I’m not sure exactly where the future of gaming in general will go though with a lot of companies pushing for digital only. I can only hope that Sony will learn some lessons from Concord and PS5 Pro.

    Honestly, the Pal World company (sorry, I keep forgetting the name of the company) had it coming. The president of the company had always said they could settle it in court if there was a problem. The tweet they made about how they're just a small indie company trying to protect the freedom in creation / development has gone slightly viral in Japan too. Can we really call a company that's capable of spending a billion yen to develop a game and doing a joint venture with Sony Music to create a new company that produces merch and Anime as indie? Imamura-san (the Star Fox / F-Zero director) tweeted he knew this would happen too.

      Yes you literally can call it indie, as they are an independent studio. The money used for development came from the development of their previous game(s) and other investments. Not only that but your sony argument holds not weight. Their deal with sony didnt happen until half a year after the game's release. They earned that deal from the popularity of the game itself. The real insanity is that Instead of using this instance of competition to maybe better themselves, Nintendo is petty enough to weaponize the patenting of universal game mechanics against an indie developer. And look if you dont like Palworld, fine. But supporting nintendo in this is the wrong take. As what they are establishing not only hinders innovation and development of other games of the genre, just as with WB Namco and Sega before them. But they can just weaponize patents against any game of a similar genre that outsells their game(s)
