Welcome to the O'Connor Woodworking UA-cam channel!
My name is Jeff O'Connor and I started O'Connor Woodworking in 1998. For the past 22 years I have done woodworking and antique restoration as a side job as I am also an active duty U.S. Navy EOD (Bomb Squad) Master Chief stationed in Virginia Beach, VA.
I love to work in all woods especially Walnut, Cocobolo, and Irish Bog Oak. I travel to Ireland on occasion to restock my Bog Oak.
I hope you enjoy my Channel!!

Great shop sir, subscribed today after watching you and Rob with Marc and Nicole.... You have a fan from Croatia and love the tip you pass on on bringing lumber inside to aclimate.... That is old school trick that I learn in my trade school (woodworking/woodturning) and once again love the shop , specially your turning area.... Little inspiration moment, I'm production/pro turner and as you showed hokeypack from The purple heart, it would be great to see the vets to maybe turn from Purple heart wood a hocky pack.... If that would be ok,I would like to turn one and film it on my UA-cam channel and that way maybe promote the Purple heart foundation and since I don't have a way to give something, maybe U could inspire a few in my woodturning community. Have a great day sir
Thanks very much my friend! I think your idea is fantastic! Let me know once you’ve filmed it and I’ll post it and also send it to Rob. All the best to you!
@@oconnorwoodworking thank you, really appriciate that ☺️
Just started watching you. I’m pretty new at hand tools, but your friend Rob Cosman has really been great. I was doing power tool woodworking about 3 years ago. I’m maybe one of a few people who started woodworking at my age. I’m 80 years old now and was a software engineer until 2004 when the company went out of business and at 62 I figured that I wouldn’t get another job because of all the kids who have their hair on fire looking for work. So I retired. I’m also a retired USNR Chief Petty Officer Quartermaster, Submarine Qualified. 33 years active and reserve. Stephen Clingerman QMC(SS) USNR Ret.
Well God Bless you sir! Here’s to many more healthy years of woodworking to you! Thank you for your service to our great nation! 🇺🇸
Very cool. Thanks for putting the video up.
Thanks very much Roy!
Power magic is my grail tool. The magnetic tray is great at each tool. Thanks for the shop tour.
Thanks Kevin! 🥃
O’Connor woodworking, sorry it took so long to subscribe, I’ve seen you in Robs chat at the PHP lives. actually wood by Wright put a link in his show notes. Nice shop !
Thanks for the follow Daniel! The shop is ever evolving, looks a little different now from when I made that video. Gotta stop buying tools!!:)
@@oconnorwoodworking yeah, I gotta stop buying tools too … but I won’t ! Lol
just saw your shop tour and wanted to thank you for your service from one Vet to another. I'm in the process of getting into woodworking myself. I get a table saw and a planner and i think i can start building. hoping for a shop by christmas.
Thanks Anthony! Thanks for your service as well. Good luck with the shop, it’s best therapy there is!
@@oconnorwoodworking thanks, My tather had a shop in the 80's and that awakened my love for the craft. but as is life i got away from it for far to long.
This is probably the best/ most relatable shop tour I’ve seen! Yes, your tools are top notch, but just something about your flow and how your shop was still in its natural state
Thanks very much Robert. I appreciate that.
I enjoyed the tour. Thanks for your service.
Thanks very much Glenn!
Awesome shop bro!
Thanks brother! Hope you’re doing well!
try a turning class from Ashley Harwood down in Charleston SC
I’ll take a look at that Richard thank you!
Thanks for sharing. Love the shop. I am thinking about starting a channel with the encouragement of my son. I have building furniture for many years and have a great shop setup. What is stopping me is I am just very camera shy. Not too far away from you here in Powhatan.
Awesome Mike! I hope you start a channel, I’d love to see your work!!
Amazing workshop, looking forward to following you channel and learning along the way. I’m just starting out in my new woodworking hobby and you are an inspiration. Thank you for your service to our country!
Thanks very much David! What kind of stuff do you like to make?
@@oconnorwoodworking I mainly work on small items , garden planters cornhole boards, shelves… but I’m going to start building furniture for our house as soon as it is warm enough to work in my garage.
Great looking shop. I’ve made the switch to HSS for turning…steep learning curve, but definitely worth it, results are much better. I would highly recommend the Tormek it makes sharpening the gouges and other difficult tools a breeze.
Thanks very much! You’re right much harder to use the HSS! Gotta keep training! I’m going to check out the Tormek.
Just started the video, but at the 3:00 mark I spot the Rob Cosman kerf marker in the upper corner, that’s a good start :)
Haha good recon!!
Great space Jeff. Very excited about the content you're going to bring. If possible can you do a review on the blue spruce coping saw. I've been thinking of buying one but can't decide btw that and the Knew saws. Anyway good luck and thanks for your sacrifice and service.
Thanks very much! I will do a review on that saw! I love it.
Great shop! Finally I subbed a local guy, I am retired Navy as well, in Chesapeake. Congrats on your new venture! Bravo Zulu on the shop!
Thanks Rich! Swing by for a whiskey sometime!
Great job! Can't wait for the next episodes.
Thank you kind sir!
Great job Jeff you come across very comfortable in front of the camera can't wait to watch you grow here keep it up .
Thanks very much!!
Rob mentioned (=praised) you, and I had to come here, and now you have a new subscriber from Denmark. I've retired and new at woodworking, with a very low budget, and I spend a lot of time watching and learning from good people who put a lot of thought into their woodworking, especially in the winter when it's too cold to work in my tiny shop. By doing so, I've saved a lot of money not buying tools I would like to have but really don't need, and upgrading the ones I do need. And to do that, you have to be selective in finding the best woodworkers/channels you feel you can trust and pay attention! (Just like in life, right? ) Thank you for sharing 👍 Wish you and your family all the best in 2022 ❤
Wonderful to hear from you Pia and thank you for the support! I wish you all the best in your journey!
Congratulations on your channel, found you from Rob cosman . I’m also a vet Viet Nam 69-70
Thank you for the support and your service to our nation sir!
Well done. I am a bit envious of your tools. I have subscribed.
Thanks sir! Saved up a lot of Pennie’s for sure for the shop!
G’day Jeff, Aussie Vietnam Vet. I started woodworking as a hobby a few years ago. I started with mainly power tools but have recently after binging on Rob’s videos changing to mainly hand tools. This has changed my hobby to my main therapy. I have recently built Rob’s workbench and in the process of organising my shed (shop). I have also bought a Woodriver 51/2, 3/4 dovetail saw and a few other items from Rob. Postage to Australia is a bit slow and expensive but worth it. I love your presentation style and your shop Cheers Clive (Buck)
Thank you Clive and thanks for your service brother. All the best therapy happens for me in the shop too!
I was watching Rob Cosman videos, which I do lot, and he recommended your video. Glad he did, I am now a subscriber and look forward to more of your videos. Thanks Jeff and thank you for your service.
Thanks very much John!🥃
Well done!
Thank you!
Liked and subscribed for the Redbreast alone. Cheers!
Haha yes!!🥃🥃
Very well done! I enjoyed the tour and lots of luck with future videos.
Thanks very much!
Looking forward for more!
Thank you!
Hi Jeff. I love the swing arm tool holder you made for your turning tools. What a great idea.
Thanks very much Yvon!
I would like actually to see that list of tools - the powermatic, bandsaw and etc. Thank you for the tour, impressive and interesting. Keep going.
I’ll do that my friend thank you!
Nice shop Jeff!!!
Thanks Ammed!!
Great video Jeff. Looking forward to watching the channel grow. What song was playing at the beginning?
Thanks Devin! That was Cold London Rain by the Rumjacks
Great job. You are really lucky to have the support of Rob and his staff!
Thank you! Yes Rob and Fam are incredible people.
Hi Jeff congratulations on your new channel, I got sign posted here from watching Rob Cosman, I’m a keen hobbyist woodworker and looking forward to your videos. Im interested to know your Irish ☘️ connection as I’m from Galway in the West of Ireland but have lived in the UK now for 34years….
Thank you very much for the support Kevin! My family is from Dingle in Kerry Co but sadly I’ve only been there twice. Such a beautiful country.
@@oconnorwoodworking I should think you are young enough to get a couple of more visits under your belt….
Great video! You have a great shop! I heard about you watching Rob Cosman’s Live shows. Good luck on your site. I am looking forward to watching more of your skills. Take care.
Thank you very much for the support Kent!
Do you ship to Canada
This is one recommended I don’t regret clicking on. Man hard to believe this is your first upload, you have a real calming quality. Best of luck going forward!
Thank you so much for that my friend! 🥃
Great setup, Jeff.
Thank you Wayne!
@@oconnorwoodworking I recently retired from the RCMP. I will be setting up a shop in the coming years. Current house isn't suitable for such. I like how you've planned out your workflow... something for me to keep in mind once I get there.
Ditto to most of the comments - so far about one hundred. You might otta re-think that replying to all of them. When it gets to about a couple hundred thousand remarks your hands are going to give out. Just kidding. Big Cosman fan so now you are also on my list.
Hahaha awesome brother! I’ll have to dictate and have my son type!!
That's a great shop, Jeff👍
Thank you Steve!
Shop looks great! Cheers!
Thank you brother!🥃
Nice shop Jeff have to get down there one of these days

Hi Jeff, you have a fantastic presentation style. I can see some great videos coming from you in the future. I look forward to seeing more of your work. Congratulations and all the best with your channel.
Thanks very much Terry!
Great tour man, I really like your setup. Looking forward to seeing future projects! What grit was your stones for sharpening?
Thanks very much! I use a 1000 and 16000.
i wonder where he got that idea!@@oconnorwoodworking
Good luck with the channel, Slainte
Thank you brother!🥃
Awesome video and shop tour! Good luck with the channel brother!
Thanks very much brother!
Have you sold the lathe yet? I've been trying to find one about that size. If you haven't sold it yet, what is the best way to contact you about it?
It is sold already brother sorry.
Hi Jeff, I've been a Cosman "groupie" ( I guess), for a few years now and am the proud owner of a Cosman Bench Crosscut Saw with a resin impregnated maple handle. Was that handle cooked by you? Are you the "Jeff" that Rob speaks of so often? I think it must be you! How awesome to put the person to the name. I had no idea that the whole impregnation took 3 days. Wow! Thank you for being an integral part of the saw handle process for Rob and those of us fortunate enough to own one. You have a fantastic shop and I will follow your layout plans in my own garage one day. Great tour, amazing machines and awesome talent there in Virginia Beach! Keep on keepin' on Jeff. Can't wait to see more of your videos!
Thanks very much for the support Sue! I am that Jeff! Rob has been a true mentor and friend to me and I feel extremely fortunate to have him in my life. If you're ever in Virginia Beach, stop by the shop! All the best, Jeff
Glad I followed James advice and checked out your channel. Looking forward to some awesome videos. Nice shop by the way.
Thanks you so much for the support!
As one Vet to another, enjoy your retirement. Looking forward to seeing where your channel goes. Happy New Year.
Ian thanks very much! I just retired from Navy EOD Dec 31st. What branch did you serve?
@@oconnorwoodworking RN medic with the RM, much safer than EOD for sure. I retired in 2006 and have been enjoying the fully retired life since 2012. Loads of time to unwind whilst woodworking, it really helps. Love the look of your shop. Way more power tools than I can muster, but that is the good bit about woodworking. I share my shop with my Vmax and Belinda's car so space is limited, until we move house (soon) and I get my self built shop hopefully.
Good mix of hand and power tools! Power tools for all the boring tasks suck as resawing, ripping and dimensioning lumber and hand tools for the fun stuff.
Exactly! I run from the milling side to my zen side! :)
Great looking shop I'm jealous
Thanks saved a loooooong time to get it!!
