when you turned it around to turn the inside of the bowl were you using a jaw chuck in the mortise you cut?

Did you ever find a drill attachment for tailstock to fit this model, i cant seem to find anything to fit it????

Thanks so much for the demo of the outboard function! Seriously considering this lathe but the one thing that is still causing me to hesitate is there is no tail-stock support when going outboard. Seems to me the larger the piece you turn the greater the need for tail support, no? So I guess here is my question: Apparently there is a 20" bed extension available for this lathe, just wondering if it would fit on the outboard and therefore allow room for the tailstock to be moved over to that end too?? If so I think I'd be all in with no further hesitations on this lathe. (I could see how nice neat wood like you used wouldn't need tailstock, im just thinking of the larger less 'round' pieces). OH PS if you did read this far (sorry for being long-winded) Absolutely gorgeous bowl!! Why hadn't I thought of that chip-dip bowl turning project haha Great job man!

I have added a bit of tin, that I got from duct works department at Home Depot, to make a small shield to go above the motor and below the work aria, to keep wood dust and stuff from betting into the motor.

nice project. fyi gravy may side off. cheese plater i am new to turning don't have but 1 chuck and the live center that came with lathe bought lathe used at estate sell was no worm screw nice grizzly scroll chuck. its a 12 x36 old grizzly lathe bought 2 of them new belts wax on the bed runs like a top 600.00 for bought sold one at300.00 keep the chuck and the wolverine sharper system as a start i like making chips

Oh no. A. little too late mine came yesterday and the battery is charging. I was looking at the power cap which is supposed to be lighter but everywhere I looked Anister didn't sell to the states. So I just looked it up to find the name and I see one for $579 put it in my cart and it did not bounce so I guess they sell in the States. What is the saying "if it was not for bad luck I would have no luck at all".

getting one with the light/stand for half off as my local rockler is closing soon so about to get into it myself. 100% buying a 20" extension though lol

It's funny listening to people nit pick little things while I'm using a shop smith knock off lol. His complaints would be my pros lol. I'm getting a new lathe. I just wanted to see if I would like it. So it only cost me 150 instead of paying 1200 to 2k then deciding I didn't want to do it. Plus I can always use it's other features maybe the drill press.

The 16 is the outboard swing I I have this lathe.

You can actually get about a 12 1/2 round blank above the bed on that lathe. Its swing not throw.

Every review I have ever seen mentions the tool rest problem I don't understand why they can't correct such a simple problem.

Very nice video! Unfortunately I can't reference it in our monthly newsletter because at around 9:32 (and several other times) you are shown truing up a face grain blank using a SPINDLE ROUGHING GOUGE. This should never be done, and thus because of these unsafe techniques shown, we can't recommend the video. You may want to re-shoot, or remove the use of the spipndle roughing gouge segments and then re-post the majority of the video.

My Wen 3420 had almost the same problem as yours. Last week, it would stop turning on light cuts and finally lost speed. Wen dealer was sold out on the speed control box, which cost $29. My problem was a bad capacitor, I changed all six capacitors on the circuit board, and the lathe was back to working okay. I will upgrade to a Laguna 1216 like you, There is currently a 8 month manufacturers wait on them, delivery on June 2024, but price came down a bit on them at $899.

Great to see you back Jay. There are quite a few of the revolving centers that have removeable centers so when the point is removed the remainder can be used as a ring revolving center. The scoop looks fantastic Jay and I really enjoyed this video. It was great to hear you going through your thought processes. Take care my friend. Nice review, I have same lathe, about 6 months now. Now it blows fuse ever time I turn it on. Laguna is telling me I have to buy a voltage regulator for it before they will do anything. Has anyone had this problem. I love the lathe but I know everyone is not going out and buying voltage regulators to use. My dealer I bought it from thinks it’s the control board. Been running it now for 6 months with no problems.

The acrylic blanks are very soft. I would think the eyes would pull out if you ever had a big fish on. Have you caught anything on it yet? One idea might be to cut a channel in the lure and run a wire from the tip to the end, and then refill it with epoxy.

A work around for lock is to lock the index throw to lock the spinndle which will help with chuck changes ..but don't fire the machine while index lock will cook a belt... This Laguna baby lathe looks good to ...... Turn true ....Sawman.....................................................................................

Nice video. I noticed you used OB Shine Juice on one of the stands. I think that is made from linseed oil if I'm correct. If so, I would caution not to use it for this type of project. Linseed oil can carry its smell for some time going forward. Often times cancer patients have enough problems and don't need these additional odors which for some can be offensive. I'm also making some wig stands along with our local club to donate. Thanks, Myles

Just lop a few millimeters off the tool rest base (or banjo) with an angle grinder. How hard can it be? I've got many different and bigger issues with this machine, not the least the lowest spindle speed which is already a ridiculous 750 rpm, and the weak motor and the lack of mechanical speed reduction. The smallest cheapest lathe you can realistically get away with is "the" *Grizzly T25920,* or a version of that generic Chinese export pattern from any other vendor. But you need to make sure you get the _latest low speed version_ with the 300 rpm entry speed because older versions started out at 650 rpm as well.
