I think the real reason why Sheldon is afraid of intimacy isn't because he is a germaphobe, I think it's because he is afraid of losing people like he lost his Grandfather and Father and he saw how their deaths affected his family. That is probably why he is such a jackass with his friends, he is both afraid of ending up alone and ending up too attached.

I was SO very pleased with how the writers of "Young Sheldon" handled this on their show, with it being Mary doing "cosplay sex" with husband George, and NOT George cheating on her. Just sad that Mary never realized Sheldon saw them, and thusly couldn't correct his mistaken memory.

Its been retconned now. His father didnt cheat on him. His mom was cosplaying as a maid and Sheldon thought it was some other woman.

Am I the only one who hated the laughing, when he explained the reason? This is kind of a childhood trauma. Audience shouldn't laugh about everything, even if it is phrased a little funny way (the pants etc).

And the scene in Young Sheldon is just days after their return from Germany. Also, didn't Mary stop going to Bible study after Mandy getting pregnant incident? Guess writers overlooked these...

Penny is such a good friend to Sheldon in these types of moments she’s the first person he goes to for help or shares something sensitive to her

I’m happy they did away with this because that whole husband cheating on the loving, faithful wife troupe is played out.

I’m personally a little annoyed that they made Sheldon’s genuine trauma from this into a big joke. Also, they didn’t have George and Sheldon look at each other. That was supposed to be a big moment - George and Sheldon knew that Sheldon had seen George, but by an unspoken rule refused to speak of it. I do like how they portrayed George in Young Sheldon, contrary to the arsehole that Sheldon from TBBT suggested he was. So here’s my take on how the cheating scene should have gone, and it’s quite easy: George should have been drunk out of his mind. Even better, Brenda (or someone else, doesn’t really matter) should have deliberately gotten him drunk in order for his inhibitions to be lowered. That way it would have given Sheldon’s trauma a true foundation, as well as made us sympathise with George for being essentially raped and coerced into cheating against his will. Thoughts?

Kind of sucks. Maby if they make a movie or a limited series there could be a short reference to this point in sheldon's character arch of present day sheldon so he doesn't go to his grave thinking his dad cheated on his mom. It's good for use as the audience but as a character ending it's sad.
