It's just a no-name one from eBay. I don't know where it is now but you can find them with integrated power amplifier stages; I think this one was rated around ~3w of power.

The drivers are PRV D4400Ph-Nd. I used a 6" round exponential horn with a short flare; the ones I bought were from BlastKing. These components are sold for the crazy car audio constructions that are common in South America but they are well adapted to the use case of an LRAD-type speaker using the modular arrangement where an array of sources is built up to the necessary directivity and SPL characteristics that are needed. Also, any full range amplifier that can supply around 800-1600W into the load should provide excellent output; the one I bought to eventually use is 3000W but in this video I'm only using about 100W. Using more power might require DSP filtering to avoid overdriving the compression drivers at low frequencies.

The rating was only 1/8 HP, and I am sure my air compressor would not deliver that much.

The VT-157 is just a loudspeaker; the volume is dependent on the level setting of the source audio component.

It has been pretty nice, though not cheap. I've been here about 7 years now, which seems like a long time, but I think the next step is buying a house, which could also take a while.

It could be used for a variety of things. The mock message I used here was just because I needed something that would sound like a real alerting use case.

You need to use a lot of them together to get a useful amount of output, and normally in a cost-sensitive environment it's cheaper to use a single larger driver, if it can be fit into the available space.

I think the rain sound in many storm videos is 'sweetened'; this is just the camera microphone.

You might be disappointed to learn how simple it was. I chose a compression driver and a horn that were well optimized for operating in the speech range, then I placed four of them in a column to get increased output.

Be sure to consider power loss in the belt drive also. If I had a 1/2 or 1 HP motor, I think it would be happier; right now the motor seems to run warm. I also have to investigate a possible issue with the upper bearing in my blower - right now it warms up to around 140-160 degrees F, which is not above the allowable temperature rise, but when I tried tensioning the belt to what seemed like a normal full tension, the blower overheated and began to seize (it was fine after a cool-down), and the motor bearings were also not happy. I loosened it a bit and it seems happier now but it has me concerned.

@@PeterLowenbrauGriffin- The original gasket that was on this thing since new in 1976 was no good anymore and wouldn't hold oil, so I had to make a new one. The guidance on oil filling is to take out both plugs and when the oil gets up to the lower one, that's all the oil it needs.

This would be too inefficient to run a generator to charge a battery; the volume of air needed would be enormous. You could use an air tank to store pressure from an air motor, then release it back to the wheels as a form of regenerative braking.
