    Oiling the scalp is bad for the scalp cause it interferes with oir natural oil, sebum, which comes out of our scalps. Even too much sebum can cause hair loss and scalp issues. That is why it is important to wash your hair at least twice a week. Or every two weeks at the longest. Scalp massaging and exercise produces sebum. I love my scalp massager and jump rope.

      @artofnia horrible to watch with misinformation based on a study done in 2011 on people hair who was washed daily and air dried. No oil, grease, or butter use... I am sure you are slow enough to wash your hair daily and use heat on it, not to worry you won't damage your hair since you use heat.

    I suspected this was my issue. For the life of me, I just couldn’t figure out why my hair is so dry and keeps getting spilt ends… my guess was the air drying as I’ve done everything to help.

  • @greene_te
    @greene_te 3 місяці тому

    I think it’s ok to air dry if your hair is not soping wet (lightly damp) and you seal your hair with product whether it be cream, oils and or butters whatever works for you. If you hair is constantly almost completely wet and you let it air dry like that without squeezing out the excess water and not putting any type of product in it to seal in the moisture and protect your hair from all that water evaporating out of your hair, then yes I can see your hair getting damaged in that instance. I could also see a chance for mold and bacteria to form if you have a weave for a few months, you’re wetting your hair constantly down to the scalp and you don’t have a proper way to clean it and don’t have complete access to your hair to get rid of the wetness and dirt and product buildup. Then I could see the damage with hair in that instance. However, If you have access to your scalp, have a good hair routine, don’t let your hair dry while soaking wet, squeeze out excess moisture, and moisturize your hair while lightly damp to seal in the hydration from the water before it dries out, then it will prevent the hydral fatigue to your hair. I’ve tried a lot of different things with my hair. I tried wetting it with water daily and not putting anything in it afterwards and it was super crunchy afterwards and brittle. I tried blow drying regularly and I always had so much shedding from doing this it thinned out my hair. I find a good wholistic routine; exercise, diet, keeping hair hydrated, moisturized, and ends tucked away and leaving my hair alone has worked best, for me. I would encourage to try both options, blow drying or air drying for yourself and see what is the healthiest option for your hair!

    I completely stopped oiling my scalp and the itching and soreness in the crown of my head has stopped. This also led to hair miniaturization in my crown that has progressed, but not quite bald. I initially tried massaging that area and while I had temporary relief the symptoms always returned. I finally realized that my scalp was inflamed although it wasn’t visibly irritated or flaking. I had to reflect on my 20-year hair journey to determine when this started when it was worse, and when it was better. I finally realized that when I was relaxed or when I wore my hair straight for an extended period, my scalp did not itch or was not sore because I wasn’t applying oils. My scalp was at its worst when I applied grease multiple times a week and/or oiled the middle more to give it extra “TLC” or so I thought. It was better when I only oiled once a week with a very light oil, but I still experienced itching and soreness eventually regardless of the grease or oil, I’ve used and made all types. So I did a little experiment recently with not oiling my scalp and just like that over 10 years of experiencing these symptoms completely stopped. My hair never needed oil in the sense of dryness. As long as my hair is moisturized my scalp doesn’t get dry. I only ever used oils for the nutrients they provide. However, I can deliver those nutrients in the form of water-based serums on my scalp. And now I’m focused on regrowing my hair in the crown. I believe oils and grease were clogging my hair follicles and according to research on this subject clogged hair follicles lead to inflammation. And my theory is that it may be a contributing factor to alopecias like CCCA.

After that whenever I added any oil the itch came right back. Not I just use clarifying shampoo and a water based serum and I'm experimenting with cecred hair regrowth drops. But it's better. Bentonite clay is so wonderful I have lost so many clumps of hair from seborric dermatitis. Sometimes when it’s really bad I will apply the clay to my scalp only and sleep with it on once a week. It clears all my flakes up and soothes the burning and itching. I do mine every Friday to get my scalp back to normal then once a month to keep it at bay.

    Even people who have dandruf shouldnt oil their scalp. Dandruf isnt dry skin its the product of an overproduction of sebum. Oiling the scalp is suffocating it. There ARE non-comedogenic oils that are better for the scalp but coconut and jojoba oils are some of the worst ones.

      A lot depends on how you're using the tea tree oil. If it's not well diluted in a carrier oil, chances are high that your scalp will be irritated. I am also diabetic and when my sugar is high I sometimes develop an itch which disappears as soon as my sugar comes down. It just itches,no flakes or irritation. And the itch is not anything serious. I just cowash and I am ok till my weekly washday. I don't put oils on my scalp at all, never have.

    That's one reason why I'll never set foot in a hair salon again. I've been straightening my hair for the past 8 years. On wash day I make sure to thoroughly prep my hair for heat styling. I also thoroughly moisturize and add heat protectant to create that final barrier before applying heat. I also do one pass down the hair shaft and bump my ends on a lower heat setting. I use the Tymo Ring Hot Comb for a more voluminous look the bump my ends with a regular flat iron. I do this once a month from November or December to March. My curls still stay intact.

    I blame Chilli for the baby hair trend 😂. It’s not for me.

    I like your personality and the blue top you have on. When I was relaxed. I paid between $60 and $80 to do my hair that’s including a treatment and a trim with the relaxer. I haven’t been to a salon since 2013 or 2014. I got braids and twists while transitioning and paid between $160 and 200 depending on the style and length. I wouldn’t know what I’d charge for the services you received. For a wash, deep treatment and silk press and trim, I’d say between $140 and $200 I do my natural hair myself. I’m not concerned about it being blunt because I wear it curly most of the year. I blow dry and flat iron to trim throughout the year. In the colder months I wear it straight because the cold weather is really drying to my curls.

      Thank you for the kind words! 🧡🧡 I agree with you, I mostly do my own hair and it cuts down on costs tremendously. So we're winning 🙌🏾

    I'm definitely stretching my hair every wash 'day.' I have nothing against chemicals, just the relaxer and hair dye chemicals! I use lots of chemicals on my hair, from bond builders to keratin products. I want ease of styling and versatility, just not enough to poison myself, burn my scalp, or fry my hair until it's brittle the way those particular chemicals do. While I'm not quite a 'straight natural' since I find that after a blowout I'm more likely to do a mousse twist out than to flat iron, I completely resonate with the choice to just go straight. It's your hair. Enjoy it!
