    Thank you for the video. I'm in a similar situation and looking for alternative solutions. I found several 600 cfm blowers from Zephyr, Best, Thermador, etc. that all have a similar design. Not sure how compatible the electronics as some have 4 speeds and some have 3. I would be surprised if the blowers from several the the big names are sourced from just one or two manufacturers. Any thoughts?

If you have this issue and aren't local I'm sure you could arrange to ship it to them. Obviously there also might be someone in your area that is capable of the repair.

    Really appreciate the video, and completely agree with your sentiments on Bosch. I am in exactly the same position. The actual hole coming from the 602 is a rectangular opening (6 1/4" x 3 1/2") so I don't know why they used an 8" round flange. Did you need a custom duct to connect the left to right transition? The transition pieces I have seen so far have the same centerline, which wouldn't work.

    • @wasabisohot
      @wasabisohot Рік тому

      Hey @malcolm n, didn't occur to me that the actual opening was rectangular but looking back at the video, yah, looks like that. I ended taking flexible 8 inch ducting and bent the other end to fit my existing 6 inch connection with a lot of metal tape. Not elegant but has been working since video upload. I found a Braun 8 to 6 inch adapter but it didn't fit my space. Good luck!

    • @MalSEA
      @MalSEA 9 місяців тому

      @@wasabisohot Well, after months of that replacement unit sitting in my garage, I finally did the replacement. Your wiring worked perfectly, and I used a couple of multi angle 6" ducts and removed a piece or two, and another transition piece to mount to the bottom of the unit. Have a working kitchen fan for the first time in 2 or three years. Ridiculous, but glad it's behind me.

  • @evalangley3985
    @evalangley3985 Рік тому

    Just did the same exercise today. No point in doing a video for that since all you need to know is here. You will need a 8 inch to 6 inch reducer for your ducts. Also, you duct will be misaligned from the new blower configuration. You will also need to add a new junction box for for wiring the old cable and the new blower. I noticed that the wiring for the old blower was actually a different gauge of wire, however, the difference is so minimal that I don't foresee any issues. You don't need to ground the green wires in the junction box since they will be grounded from the connection in the downdraft and the blower casing. Finally... you will need to drill new holes on the downdraft casing. Make sure to drill the new holes as high as possible for giving you enough space for your ducts. Before drilling new holes, make sure the downdraft is deployed and not retracted, or you might damage your filters when piercing with your drill. The bottom casing where the blower sit is just an installation shield, so don't be afraid. Vacuum anything before installing the new blower. You don't want metal shrapnel just going thru the blower. Also, use half inch flathead wood screws and tight in the holes using a screw driver, not a drill. If you use a drill, you might end up with screws not tightening on anything. I am not going to lie, this is not an easy task and you will probably have to deal with issues as you go thru the process, however... IT WORKS... and will save you 1500$ for buying a new filtering unit.

  • @evalangley3985
    @evalangley3985 Рік тому

    Thanks a lot... I am going thru the same stupid process. I will install a junction box for the wires and the marettes, just to be safe. As for the 8 to 6 inch diameters, you can get an adapter at your home hardware store.

    Found this video while searching for Bosch fan motor issues. Like you, the fan motor in my Bosch down draft unit was making a ton of noise. I did view your first video asking for help in finding a replacement motor. That is where I am at. The motor in these units are no longer available. I have found a Braun motor that seems identical, but first I am going the "replace the ballbearings route." I disassemble the unit and the motor and was successful in extracting the ballbearings. It took some PB Blaster and heat but I got them out. I noticed that there were no markings on the ballbearings (i.e. model number or some other identification number). They are sealed; I was able to pull the chase and clean and repack them. I am going to order new bearings (8mm x 22mm x 7mm; 608ZZ) and install them. For ~ $7 (for 10) it is worth a shot. For what its worth, the fan sounds much better now.
