Over the Rhine - Silent Night
This is from their "darkest Night of the Year" release...I was surprised to see that this song hadn't already been uploaded to UA-cam (I guess that's what I'm here for)!
...and no, I don't own the copyright to this performance--but, I honestly don't think Karen and Linford would mind :)

These guys are another one of those Beatle-Esque sounding bands! I do not own the copy rights to this song...just wanted to share, for there isn't one posted.
OWSLEY's incredible tribute to the Beatles. He was so talented. I read that he made the entire album and handed the master to the record company saying, "Here you go".
I heard this on the radio while I was driving in summer of 1992. I was so dumbfounded that I had to pull over on the edge of Lake Guntersville and crank up the music. A few years later, I found out he was from my area, and that we'd actually met and had mutual friends. I'd been introduced to and shook hands with a true musical genius and didn't even know it. I so wish he was still around. I would have loved to had the opportunity to work with him.
So happy I got to see him live at his peak. He performed right before Oasis at Music Midtown in Atlanta in 2000. The Gallaghers were actually on the side stage watching him perform. A wonderful memory.
Will Owsleys influence is everywhere. I know his family. His parents and siblings. Both his Mother and Father have passed. I've polished his Grammys and cleaned the glass of his platinum records. The circumstances of his passing break my heart. Support Fathers parental rights!!!!! Learn the signs of Depression....such a loss
I love this album! I miss this kind of music so much!!❤❤❤❤❤
Great version!! And Beth Orton's version is also great, look for it on youtube!! My two favorite songwriters!!
Beautiful, we love you Will 🌟🙏🌟
WOW. ☃️ That's SO good ! 🥲
Aimee Mann did a better version than this…it’s on this album. But this version is not it.
This is the version on this album. I own the CD.
First heard this in Almost Famous.
Best cover ever!
Good lord
I love your voice Deanna! Miss you. I am sharing this! We have 8 haters I see.
Stella ✌🏼🇬🇧💚
change for a Buck Mr. Dharma?
OTR, one of my very favorite music groups!
I was lucky to recieve an EP of Owsley as a gift from the merchandiser of the music store I used to work as floor manager. And more beautiful it was a cassette as I don't prefer CDs that much. But point is I will treasure the gift forever
Brilliant!
I miss Owsley.
The intro alone gets me all choked up
名曲だねぇ。
Saw them when they opened for Fountains of Wayne at The Paradise, Boston. They were 45 minutes late, rushed in, set up in twenty minutes, and absolutely blew people away.
Saw him in Nashville, such a talent, such a sad ending. RIP
Great version. Would also like to recommend Six Pence None the Richers' version
This is a very moving version, probably the best one I've ever heard. I love the beginning
Also Sara McLaughlin
I've been looking for this song for years, thank you!
I knew Will. I think he absolutely knew his music was brilliant but was crushed that most of the public didn't "get it". This is just a theory and do not mistake this statement as fact. But wouldn't you feel that way if you had created such a masterpiece? RIP Will.
This song really helped me when my Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2002. I was in a very dark place but somehow found this song. Would be trite to say that it made me think that there was hope and life could get better but it kind of did. Fortunately it was the non aggressive type and he's still here in 2016. Really gutted when I heard Will had taken his own life. I wish I had posted this before it happened. He might have not got the critical success he deserved but Will's music did make a difference to quite a few people.
One of the singers is Harry Stinson, who plays the drums. Harry now plays for Marty Stuart and His Fabulous Superlatives. This is done by session players from Nashville. But don't be fooled by another group that goes by the same name.
They might have been "session players" in this track but have huge histories in the biz. one example Larry "Mike" Lee of Jackie Blue from the OMDaredevils.
@@markwebb1415 And Larry Byrom, lead guitarist for Steppenwolf for a couple of years (Monster, Steppenwolf 7, and the Live album)
Sounds more Lennon inspired to me. Like across the universe.
my new favorite song ...
Love it - as good as Joni (a close second of course) XO Aimee Mann
The absolute most beautiful version of this song, by a MILE
But Joni's is the blueprint... This is great but couldn't exist without the phenomenal talent of J.M... The greatest female singer/songwriter by a HUNDRED MILES.
Great version!! And Beth Orton's version is also great, look for it on youtube!! My two favorite songwriters!!
It's like the early Who travelled forward in time and covered this.(?)
My thought exactly. And not just the voice but the guitar and drum style and chaotic ending.
They can see for miles.
I heard this CD around 1999 and have been a true fan of Will Owsley ever since- I think his music is just fabulous and I wish everyone knew about it so they could enjoy it as much as I have- R.I.P. Will-
So sad to discover that Owsley isn't here anymore - I've loved the CD "Owsley" for years and tried to find out why we didnt hear anymore from this talented man...today I discovered the sad information - so sorry RIP Owsley! Kind regards from a big fan in DK
This will always be one of the best albums ever recorded. I'm not sure if Will even realized how brilliant and talented he was.
Stink Stank Stunk.
OHMIGOSH! I have been searching for this version! Thank you for posting this!!!(:
Legend...
亡くなってしまってとても悲しいです。ちっちゃい時からOwsleyを聴いて育ったので、、素晴らしい音楽をありがとうございました。
This is one of my all time favorite albums of all time. i saw him on that HBO show one afternoon and went to Tower records that night and bought this and have not stopped listening to it since then. I cant believe more people dont know about this cat. God rest his soul.
Lady Gaga farts and gets 20,000,000 views and this isn't even on 2,000. It's a fucked up world right enough.
how many crappy albums did rolling stone magazine put in top 500 (the answer may be as high as 250, or half being crap) and this is better than most of them.
Fantastic cover version. Reminds me a little of Cream's Strange Brew. I've added this cover to my FB group dedicated to covers. It's called "The Guilty Pleasure of the Cover Version". Feel free to join in.
A very moving version of one of the best songs ever written. When it was released many years ago, I found the Blue alblum too depressing. As a teenager, I did not appreciate its depth and genious. How many excellent vocalists have recored this song subsequently? While I'm sure Aimee would agree that some-Sarah M. for example-have sung this song with sweeter voices-this version is still precious.
been looking for this song 4EVER! Thanx! :)
This is by far the best rendition of Silent Night I've ever heard!
I've beeeeeen searching for this Owsley's amazing song for years and years, and now finally I found it here. I really thank you for uploading. This is my favorite tune forever. RIP Will Owsley...I miss you. You were one of the most talented musicians ever, too early to leave the world we live in.
One of the best versions of this song
What a song! Too bad for me that my new favourite singer is already dead.
