TRES Cool/Heavy!
I agree with Gene. I didn't like this movie much at all. It just seemed like another 2 hours of Goodfellas. All the same actors playing all the same characters. Goodfellas was fantasic. Casino? Nope.
Ebert hit it on the head. Give it a mixed review thumbs up if you have to (still crazy, IMO, but fine) but saying don't see it is just ridiculous.
It's great film because it's based on true events that happened. That's what makes Good Fellowers more chilling than even the God Father was.
Half way through his career Scorsese invented a brand new blueprint for movies. This movie is more imitated than Pulp Fiction, but the imitations are actually good. Nobody agrees with me, but I think Wolf of Wall Street might even be better than this because it's like Goodfellas but it's also a hilarious comedy.
The man had a right to dislike a movie if he pleased. I hated 'Titanic'. 'Casino' was skillfully put together, but it was a lesser work than some of Scorsese's classics.
If these two were alive today to see the crap movies that have been playing the past few years, they would have to literally have a kennel of dogs on their show for their 'Dogs Of The Week' segment. I would give anything for their review of 'Megalopolis'.
You can't always be right, Gene!
Goodfellas is of course an outstanding film, but I disagree with Ebert about it being better than The Godfather. Yes, it gives a more dynamic look at mafia life, but TG is more well rounded, patient, and rich IMO.
Pechi played a real person. Crazy person.
I'm not sure James Woods was acting.
Goodfellas is the only perfect movie ever made. Not a single second of the film is boring
was good film no doubt but siskel was right was same mafia story with few differencies
Thumbs down?! How I wish these two guys were around to see the crap Hollywood is making these days. They'd be begging for a Casino quality film.
I thought it was a good movie….not great
History agrees with Ebert
Not my history.
Just for the way that Scorsese captured the essential vibe of the time and place alone makes it a thumbs up. Vegas is as much a character in this film as the actors. Throw in the tour de force performances by, well, pretty much every single cast member, and the kick ass soundtrack and you have one of the better films of that time period, plain and simple. Meanwhile Siskel gives career hacks like Depalma and Ron Howard a free pass peddling their drek? Gimme a break here!
Siskel's trying to be too much of a critic.
🤱🤱🗣️🗣️☎️☎️cremarte tus pies??????
Siskel trying to be smartest guy in the room
gee talk about spoilers alert, for the time
"Casino. Ca seen it. But I liked it better the first time I saw it ... when it was called Goodfellas." -David Spade
This is one of the opinions where Siskel was much more "correct" than Ebert was. Casino is stale, and it's also hard to get through. The romance storyline, and the scenes encompassing it, are hard to watch, but not in a way that makes them interesting. It's almost like watching trauma porn. I think Casino is one of Scorsese's weakest films, ever.
“Well, as by somebody else how would you grade it?” I think Roger nailed it with that last question. If Gene didn’t know who directed it beforehand, how would he have reviewed it?
Reporters a massive twat
Siskel was expecting Goodfellas, and so was I. But this movie has aged really well over time for me. It's a great film that stands alone; it's not Goodfellas. He'd already made that one. This is a very different story.
This was the year I stopped paying any attention to the Oscars. Dances with Wolves and Ghost beating Goodfellas almost across the board proved the Academy committee were high on their own farts.
It's a movie you have to watch if and whenever it pops on the screen.
Gene call uneven piece! His mind was uneven when he watched this movie several times! Rest in peace gene, you were one of the best!
Gene had his head up his ass when he watched casino!
To call 'CASINO' a let down is insane. I wish we got movies as good as this today.
I remember I was late to the party seeing this in the theatre. I think I might of saw it a couple months after it was out at the only theatre in the area that was still playing in Cedar Grove NJ .
fuck siskel he was a retard who didnt know anything about movies the guy never made any thing yet always opened his ass whenever he didnt like even the most retarded detail in a movie just so pathetic and annoying anybody who doesn't appreciate the art has no right to think of themselves as a critic whose opinion is worth appearing in a show
It's a film that men...particularly American men...would like a lot more than others. I,an american man,see this as one of the best English language films ever made.
It “doesn’t break new ground??” Siskel is on crack. There had never been a film about that era of Las Vegas. It was historically accurate and brilliantly done.
Well, the plot of Casino has big mistakes like not very well developed characters or the constantly unbearable narration, and the story is almost the same that the Goodfellas'. Anyway is still my favorite Scorsese's film, is powerful, flamboyant, funny and frantic
They are both right!
Don Rickles acted competently in this Flick.
What can we say about Goodfellas that wasn't already said? Is a great american movie, Ebert himself declares many times
"Thumbs down? 😮 I'm astonished." -My thoughts exactly Ebert. R.I.P. both of you guys. I wish so badly this show could have went on for another 20 years at least with both of them alive.
Best line in the movie “F***ing mutt dented my shoes. After kicking him unmercifully 😊
*_”One that will be overlooked is Lorraine Bracco”_* She went on to be nominated for an Oscar So that comment didn’t age well
I was 14 when this film came out. To this day this remains my favorite film of all-time
These guys were schmucks most of the time. But at least they said "movie" once in a while. In the past few years people seem to insist on saying "film" way too much...even when they record something with their phone, they'll tell you they filmed it
I prefer Goodfellas to The Godfather in a lot of ways
I didn't like casino at first for exactly the reason siskal says; it was a less interesting repeat of scorcese's previous movies. However, after time I think it's a gem. Not scorcese's best, but still a great film.
I get that it felt like a remake of Goodfellas, BUT... "Less than GREAT is still VERY GOOD".
Mafia is smarter than the government
You know who liked Apple Pan..,Joey Peeps
Apple Pan is overrated. Burger ok pie is great
