What Makes A Good Roguelike/Roguelite?
I meant to say have you tried dicomancer😅 not cardomancer, also loving the content so many good games I found through these videos
It is disappointing to see that my favorite deckbuilding rougelike is not on the list, it is called "Indies Lies". I have played Slay the Spire, and the way you upgrade cards is just smite them on the smith, and it will change it so slightly (once per card with the exception of that Knight card where you can upgrade it endlessly) in Indies Lies though, you can punch your card and put 3 up to 5 max runes. Runes is like materia in FF7 where runes can differ to give your card elemental effects, Innate, make it zero cost, etc. I've seen a Rouge (class in the game) build where there are only 2 key cards, and you can loop them, where whenever you use this 0 cost card with high damage, the next card you play will return that card to your hand, and when you play that card, it will return the other. In Slay the Spire you can do loops too but with so many cards. Can you make a summary of that game? I believe it is free on mobile though the DLCs are not free, but you can play ads just to play an unlockable character for 1 run. There are currently 15 characters with 3 free starting mage classes. You can buy it on steam and when you buy it, all the DLC are included.
Hey! The Steam link redirects to Flocking Hell instead of Moon Watch :)
Erannorth Chronicles. Check it out, it's quite the experience. You can build, mix and match hundreds of cards and traits to make your character unique.
what game is at 29:38?
Where did ror2 go? Huh? And where was you mentioning how you were listening to risk of rain’s OST. Because you DO listen to it. I SAID YOU LISTEN TO IT. BECAUSE YOU DO. AND IF YOU SAY YOUR DON’T, YOU’RE A LIAR.
This kinda looks like FPP Risk of Rain 2
Angel talking about giving lovable events to monsters that people struggle with is such genius design. For example, I hate fighting high level Kiwi because she occasionally just destroys my whole run, but if i beat her... She sets up a little board game RPG for me to play where she's the DM and it's the cutest damn thing I've ever seen. Reminds me of RPG Time, another indie game I'd highly recommend. Anyway, thanks for talking to Angel and showing off this awesome game! Great video and chat.
genius thumbnail
Hades and Skul the Hero slayer are my top roguelikes. Simple yet deep enough to make each run unique.
FTL!!!!
you compare it to minesweeper but i think its more like Desktop Dungeons, the OG minesweeper roguelike where the actions are mostly deterministic and you need to explore the map in right order and use your character's abilities to level yourself and find and defeat the end boss flocking hell looks intresting, i'll watch full video later
How to contact him? want to make a Ost for the Game
It's very easy to contact me, but only I can make the ost for this game
@@Veyerals oh i see :D love the game, bought it yesterday
An interview with the Dev of my favourite underrated game? hell yea!
"All life begins with Burning Veyeral and ends with Burning Veyeral... This is my belief...at least for now!"
this dude voice make me happy
This game might be one of my favorite roguelite, unique, has tons of contents, also the community is very welcoming and supportive. Love this game!
Surprised that there was no mention of how Rendy accidentally became the server mascot somehow.
It's because she's Rendy. What is there to explain? We love Rendy.
I was an 80s kid growing up in the Commodore 64 and NES era, so I'm an extremely jaded old fart now. I imagine the dopamine reward systems in my brain that respond to games are all atrophied and crusted over. I just didn't think games like this were "for me" anymore, but I'm really glad I gave it chance because this game knocked all that crust off and made me feel like that 6 year old sitting in front of that crappy CRT TV with a NES controller again. Take all the bad shit that's been happening to the gaming industry over the past few decades, the uninspired games-as-a-service AAA schlock, the predatory monetization, the cut and paste insipid sameness of it all, TVRUHH feels like the perfect counter argument to what gaming has become to remind us all of what it could have been instead.
Hell yeah
Thx Angel for this amazing Game. I Love it.
thank you for another game i'm picking up today. I had my eye on this since before release, now that I see it more in-depth, buying right now.
this channel is under rated. The amount of new titles i've discovered TODAY blows my mind. As someone who became obsessed with roguelike games after I first started playing Deadcells is addictive. Why such a low sub count...its crazy. You do an amazing job, inspiring breakdowns, almost asmr voice overs. I shall spread this channel far and wide!
If ya need some more suggestions, I got 4. If you want more deckbuilder roguelikes, check out Draft of Darkness and Poker Quest: Swords and Spades. If ya need more hordelikes as you call it, check out Holocure and Disfigure, both of those games are for free.
I didn't play much of the other deck building roguelike But slay the spire has runes, Unique cards and ability for each class Anddd many ways to break the game,(almost inifinite loops, bursts of armor and damage etc) especially with the daily challenge additional rules (Yayyyy!) I am saying it has it's own things, that other games might not have. Also i like the atmosphere and love this game.
#❤ #pewpew
For as many roguelikes there are out there, I still enjoy them. But I wish they were more classified as a sub genre than a main genre because finding games with roguelike elements is tough since a calm strategic game is as much of a roguelike as a high paced action game and anything between. I say this because I like shmups and I liked the idea of a roguelike shmup and this game looks ssuuppper fun. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
38:45 oof, you did Darkest Dungeon dirty 😱
its crazy unlucky how this is still underground
i switched to bullet hell😈
I don't even like roguelites much (sorry to be pedantic but if it's ain't a "traditional roguelike", it's a roguelite in my book), but I absolutely adored this game, that's how damn incredible this dev is. Though to be fair I absolutely adore danmaku shmups and Touhou games, so it might be just how well it does in that area as I can mostly ignore the roguelite aspect. One of the things shmups really rely on is a low amount of top-notch quality that's fun to repeat and master, so it's pretty crazy how we have here this shmup that has near limitless content _and_ excels at the shmup angle. Most roguelite shmups really, and I mean *really* skimp on the shmup gameplay because it's a difficult genre to incorporate roguelite elements into, which again, just goes to speak to how much of a master this dev is at game design. My only real issue with the game was an onboarding one. The game forces you to an easy difficulty the first time through and you have to beat the game before you can unlock a reasonable one, but the one you're locked to at the beginning if you're a shmup player already is *boring* and feels longer than most shmups, so I almost bounced off the game and it actually took a discussion with the dev on r/shmups to convince me to try it again on the higher difficulty, and once I did that I was hooked.
Small correction: karma does not directly affect future monster levels, but it can feel like it does. More karma means more monster choices and while those are usually of higher level the player can still choose to continue battling lower level monsters. However, monster level in a run will never deplete barring certain gifts or events. Karma is always strictly beneficial unless you are looking for anomaly.
To add on to this: Monster level in story mode is directly based on the levels you pick... Picking a lvl4 boss puts the lowest level boss in the next stage at lvl4... That is unless the game feels like you're scaling it too fast/too slowly... In which case it'll bump you towards the expected level... This does mean that the strategy mentioned in the video of performing badly in low level fights is irrelevant... Since you're already keeping the level low by choosing low level fights... Similarly... Performing badly in a high level fight will not save you from the consequences of going so high... However the game does allow for an out... Aside from the level pulling itself back sometimes... You also have the Self Doubt event... Which triggers if you perform badly on a high level fight (relative to rain difficulty and run progress)... Allowing you to either embrace your predicament and earn karma... Or lower the level to be safer... This triggers once per run so you would need to use it carefully... (The event still triggers if you reach near the max level for the current difficulty without performing badly... Allowing you to still reap the benefits from it even if you're not struggling...)
The Void Rains Upon Her Heart might very likely be my favorite game ever
I love TVRUHH so much and I'm so glad someone has recognized how much of a masterpiece it is. thanks for making this video!
Great Video! I am absolutely going to check this game out now! <3
I love blazing beaks so glad someone talked about it
So glad I found this channel! Personally, my hidden gem roguelike is Rogue Glitch. Didn't see it in any of your tierlists, so maybe check it out!
Thank you so much for sharing what you learned, my guy! Please do bring more, I'm bingewatching this channel
bruh this video... as a game dev who binges video essays in his free time i cant believe this is the first time i stumbled across your channel. lovely video, lovely amount of effort put in, lovely voice too. cant wait to see more!
this channel is great
I would have never found this game without you highlighting it. Thank you, for both showing that this exists at all. But also showing just how smart and risky design is important.
Amazing video. Will you release the full interview vith Angel/Veyeral?
Yes, in the next week or so 👌🌶️
WE NEED MORE #RogueDesign !!
Something I really love about this game and by extention Hades is that dying is an actual mechanic, not like roguelike games where the game just restarts or roguelites where you just buy upgrades, but it is used to move on the plot, learn about the 'monsters' you are fighting, on top of the whole upgrading your character.
715? You're late, it's 725 now at the time of this comment. :P Also, there has been an overhaul with the mode where Solara appears very recently so there has been adjustments in gameplay in that mode.
You should play Brutal Orchestra next
i study gamedesign and this video gave me so many ideas on how to branch out this genre and make it significantly less predictable. Damn o_O
While I love the gameplay in Revita, I had some qualms with the design principle The gimmick should be a risk vs reward system, but given the fact that more upgrades are generally optimal and you don't have much way to judge how hard upcoming rooms will be, in practice it's only a reward system where if you do well you get to have more goodies. Ultimately this felt less interesting than the decision making aspects of other roguelites and made it harder to stay engaged with each run even though I enjoy the bosses and evasion based gameplay that's at the core
