The Visual Arts fall under the Humanities. It is not an Academic discipline!
Переглядів 564 роки тому
One of the great dilemmas in Art Education today is that the Visual Arts are treated like an Academic discipline such as Science, Math, and even Social Studies. IT IS NOT!!! It falls under the Humanities. The Humanities are defined by Stanford University as the following: “... as the study of how people process and document the human experience. Since humans have been able, we have used philoso...

I love how honest this video is, thank you!
What about if you just want to run an informal art class out of your living room teaching what you learned in art school yourself?
If you want to run an informal art class then do so. It's a great idea! The important thing is that you keep improving as an artist as well as a teacher regardless of the setting you are in.
In my case, I was just assumed that. I knew how to do art. And I'm now having to figure out what all these elementary and fundamental art stuff is. I don't know how I'm going to teach it. But I know how to draw at least to my ability. Which is exceptional. I guess so I'm just looking for some extra guidance concerning. Teaching the fundamentals in the principles. And whatever else there is, that is supposed to be taught about art.
I love your shirt.
i do not have an educational background, but I draw very well. Is there an online course that I can do ?
I’m in college for fine arts/visual for my associates this video helped me a lot of understanding
Very impressive,Am an art in Uganda.this is great,I needed this! Thx for sharing am humbled.
Thank you for liking the video! Glad it can be of help to you!
How long did it take to START teaching art?
After your 2nd year of getting your degree in art education you should start student teaching and thats usually when you start in my opinion.
I really appreciate all of this information! I really loved the feeling of you sitting down in front of us and helping guide us toward a successful career. Thank you so much for the information
i just stumbled on to your videos. thank you. I'm going through all the school in my state right now to get a Art Education degree.
Thank you for visiting my channel. Best wishes on your journey in becoming a Visual Arts Teacher!
Great smile 🥰
You are right!!! To do the project before, really help to anticipate to any surprising thing-issue- epiphany that you had not thought before. Thank you❤️
I love to work on a black paper ❤️
Thank you!❤️
Lovely❤️ Thank you. I am getting addictive to your Chanel. I like that you are OPEN to any type of art and do not get enclosed in just one. I love music, I love writing, dance, paint... I love art❤️ and yes, Art can change the world!❤️ God bless you❤️
Thanks for sharing your expertise. I am an art teacher of over 20 years. My videos are mostly lesson specific. I subscribed to your channel.
Thank you so much!!!!
Good video. Would it be appropriate to ask one of my professors questions about their job?
If your considering being a professor yourself I see no harm in asking? Are they involved with arts???
@@artcanchangetheworld5347 yes, I’d like to be an art professor and I want to talk to my art professor but since she is so busy I wasn’t sure if it would be inappropriate to ask if I can ask her questions
If you can't speak to her send her an email and simply inquire and ask your questions. The professor may be able to respond better that way. Please remember that you should be also developing your knowledge in that field by actually doing art as well and asking others who are skilled in that area.
@@artcanchangetheworld5347 Yes, of course. thank you!
Hellow Sir, For Becoming art teacher What we have to do after getting the Bachelor Degree in Arts? Like which teaching courses or exam ?
I think it depends on if you want to teach higher Ed. or K-12 Art
Most states require a Praxis test
Was that a Conté Pierre Noir pencil you tested?
Thank you
I'm transitioning from being a college professor to being a secondary school teacher. (Many are surprised but the academic job market, pay and job security are terrible. Secondary school teaching offers geographic flexibility, better job security, and, in some states, even better pay!) Here's the funny thing: I am an art historian with a PhD and undergraduate majors in English literature, music history/theory and art history. This means, weirdly, that I meet the provisional teaching certifications for English (okay), art and possibly music - despite being, really, a highly trained cultural historian. They wouldn't certify me to teach secondary school history! I'm not really a practicing artist. Sure, I can teach AP art history with ease. But I would be more comfortable teaching World History than how to paint/sculpt/etc. It seems I have found a flaw in the certification standards. Granted, I am an unusual candidate. (I'll be going for English teaching certification for now.) Any thoughts from Art teachers out there on whether or not i should actually seek to certify in art as well?
You have an amazing background but if you are considering seriously to be a Visual Arts teacher you should be doing art as well. Your experience in Art is really valuable non the less and that could work maybe in a High School level. Middle School students are challenging and you have to keep them engaged at all times. Though teaching some art history is good they would get bored pretty fast and need and want to create art in class. So you need to consider if Middle school is the best option with your training and experience. Art history is valuable and might be more excepted in a high school setting in the higher grades like 11th and 12th grade. However that will also depend on the school and what their curriculum is like. I hope that helps.
Thanks for your channel
Thank you!!
We are not boxes. Kids are not boxes. They are expressive. Continue to be open minded.
Hi, do you know of any around the GPA requirement for Bachelors degrees? I want to go into art teaching. I got my BFA in Fine Art in a major that was not my strongest subject, so I had below a 3.0, though most of the poor grades were due to harsh grading in a competitive art environment and not academically based. I was wondering if there are any ways to get a teaching certification with a Bachelors that does not require you to have had a certain GPA. Also, I'm considering maybe attempting to get the Masters in Teaching degree online through a program that does not offer a teaching license, as the online programs tend to be less restrictive when it comes to minimum undergrad GPAs. Then, once I have a higher GPA via my masters degree, go back and try to get the teaching certification at that point. Does that make sense as a potential avenue? Any help would be great, thank you.
Hi there! Thank you for viewing the video! GPAs as far as I know you need to be above 2.8 and as far as credits will depend on what degree and the policy of the college or university you attend. Whatever program you choose please try to explore and experiment with different art mediums and subjects that you will and that your future students would be interested in.
I am 18 and I want to be a high school art teacher or middle school
You want to be middle school?
This is an amazing series!
Thank you, so useful!
Love this, I have watched it twice this week! very in depth and you don’t just skim the surface on it. I graduated my bachelors degree in fashion, art and collaborative business 5 years ago and have been working freelance ever since. Freelance was great but Covid has really naffed things up something bloody chronic. I am jumping to a degree in Science and Zoology next year as Zoology and conservation are two of my biggest passions that I would like to teach in future however I was torn between staying focused on my art ventures or going for my degree. Thankfully I have been offered a teaching position at the art centre here in New Zealand, teaching digital art, wildlife, watercolour, fashion illustration etc, and they have offered to keep me on part time as well when I go into study next year. It’s such a wonderful exciting opportunity however I have been absolutely nervous and a bit lost as teaching art is something I have never contemplated. I adore art, it’s something I have loved since kindergarten and developed over my 30 years on this planet. I am confident with my own art but for some reason, the prospect of teaching it to children, teens and adults, has me incredibly anxious and nervous, I was going to turn the job down this afternoon but your video gave me a strong sense of calm and encouragement. Thank you so kindly for sharing your wealth of information with us.
Thank you for viewing the video and your kind words! So appreciate it! My very best to you and your endeavours! Keep doing doing Art and inspire others as well!
I've noticed that you didn't wait for the blue AFMAT sharpener to stop, as you were sharpening Conte pastel. So do you recommend to do the same, instead of waiting for the engine to automatically stop, for lowering the risk of breaking the tip? Thanks again!
WIth the Conte Pencil you should be a little careful only because they tend to be very soft compared to graphite. Just be careful with it is my best advice. So far this sharpener has worked beautifully for me.
THANK YOU!!! I was searching everywhere on the web to understand if that AFMAT electric sharpener could handle Cote a Paris pencils (Pierre Noire and Sanguine) but looks like no one is talking about it... but YOU!!! Thank you again so much for this super interesting and accurate review!
Thank you for viewing the video!
I'm 30 years old. Is it too late to start to take steps into an art teacher in US? I'm a Chinese girl. I'm worried about if there are jobs after graduation.Your insights will be very apprecoated!! Does art education program train drawing and painting from beginning?
HI there, It really depends on the program you choose to take. You really need to do your own research to some degree to see what program fits with your goals. You should be drawing, painting or any other art form you are use to now and not worry if the art art education programs offer it. Some do and some don't.
Great information! Excellent advice. 😊👍
This is all such great advice, thank you so much for making this video! I’m going for my art teaching certification, and I’ve been a bit lost and stressed. This really helps.
Glad you liked the video!
Hi Sir Iam from India. Iam a private art tutor for kids. Can you suggest me a drawing teacher diploma program online so that in future I can train art teachers. My email id Gpsudeesh@gmail.com
Sorry for the late reply! Thank you for the question. I would check out the following: online.adelphi.edu/graduate-degrees/ma-art-education/ study.com/articles/Online_Courses_for_Becoming_an_Art_Teacher.html I hope this helps. Please check what program fits with your needs. Take care!
Really wished I knew all of this sooner I’m 22 but plan on getting a degree for this to be a elementary art teacher hopefully !
Thank you very much for this video. I am a Belgian Art Historian (and also a secondary school teacher) and actually, I live in Dubai. I would like to apply for a job as an art teacher (in secondary school). as an art historian, I guess I don't have the ability to apply for a job as an art historian?
Thank you for checking out my video. As far as Art History the only teaching jobs would be High School or college and University that I know of. With elementary and middle school being able to teach art is crucial. Children at that age want to mainly do art.
You don't have the ability to apply for the job? Really?
Like 5..💕👍💕 Your creativity is unique and your fresh ideas and thoughts that you bring to this world are valuable and worthy ❤️❤️❤️.
Thank you for your kind words and enjoying the video.
thank you so much for your insight! despite the subjectivity of art, it is the vehicle and byproduct of human beings. i think that art is progressively changing the world and inhibits change in humans. great video!
Thank you for your kind words enjoying the video.

Thank you for reminding me of why I am doing this.
Thank you so much! I will begin tutoring art online and I am trying to grasp any information I can get! Great video! I am looking forward to more of this!
This honestly really helped ... I’m Irish and about to start college. My mind was in between studying architecture and art education. I was very afraid of making the wrong decision because my art course is far from home and if I dropped out I would have to wait another year to start a new course . This helped settle my mind and gave me the information that I didn’t have . Thank you for taking the time to make these videos.
loved it...
