Various shots removed of Yasugi with the sword, preparing for the act to follow; several more frames at the start of the shot where he falls forward as John Mannering (Steve Forrest) enters the room (I have a vague memory that LWT might have removed this shot entirely). Transmitted on a weekday afternoon

I'm a Bristolian so all this is very familiar to me.
I miss the 1970s
Bloody hell that news coverage of that Egypt/Israel conference just showed 3 minutes of raw footage without editing or interjection by some "expert". You don't get news like this anymore where they just report what happened and allow the viewer to make their own opinion. Proper news reportage.
Blimey! Nothing changes then does it .
Ah, the days when every single advert wasn't 'diverse' or contained a multi ethnic family....
Working From Home - long before it was the norm.
remember charlie chaplin just died one main news story
Boxing Day "St Stephen's Day" 2nd day of Christmas.
This Thames tv fella...Peter Marshall Remember Come Dancing with no CRH Anton du bek and their cringeworyhy oneliner 'Keeeep Dancing!' He replaced sir Terry wogan in 1980 didn't he?
How refreshing to see a newscaster reading the news from just their shoulders up instead of prancing around in front of a large screen in their skinny attire delivering their selective bias bs. Always remembered this news reader but was not aware of his name until now.
Fabulous. When adverts, programmes and even Disney entertained and didn't moralise with the woke doctrine.
My Dad still has one of those MFI coffee tables but has replaced the glass with a bit of wood.
Nearly 50 years later we are still talking about Middle east peace. I give up !
And in another 50 years we will still be talking or for lots of people shouting
Wow Freddy Laker, a blast from the past.
I was 5 months old in this year. Grew up with Thames and LWT as it was my region. Peter Marshall, Tom Edwards and Phillip Elsemore were the elite announcers
A fantastic upload. It is incredibly rare to find recordings of short bulletins from ITN from the 1970s. I believe this is the only footage in existence on YT of Ivor Mills reading the news
Both Ulstermen here, Peter Marshall was from Derry and Ivor Mills from Belfast.
Which is why he was able to pronounce Tyrone correctly :)
I never knew Mills was from belfast.. he hasn't the accent..
@@PaulH-hl5hw He went to university, was an accomplished concert pianist, and modified his accent into RP.
@jonhay3141 interesting...had forgotten about the man... that dermit murghnanhan..[ not sure of spelling]was from belfast too..
MFIs eternal sale was still going on.
I was expecting to see the ATV logo before "Star Spangled Soccer"! What with "Star Soccer" being from Lord Grade's outfit. And you know Lord Lew's m.o...
That was the movie version of "H. R. Pufnstuf" ending at the start. I'm very pleased that I didn't even have to check the TVRDb to know that.
Love the tinsel around the Thames logo background!
So did I. Every Christmas Thames always decorated their studio.
1 advert Tyne Brand.
oh no, another cumbersome boy
Good of Tom to name check the TC.
Couldn't they afford to show the actual TV schedule??? :-0
Our Thames announcer, Tom Edwards
Blue Wind bolted in.
That was a strange choice for lead story
another awful itv sitcom. shouldve made that WMA sequel
july and he's wearing a raincoat! so much for sunny days of the past.
One thing I remember about "The Mersey Pirate" was their send up of News at Ten.
I recall this as being dire! This clip certainly backs my memory up. Thank god for TISWAS!
I saw this episode at the time. I only remember sparks,so thats how i know i saw it. The rest of it is a blank. Would have been good to see the sparks interview, where Russell mael says that ron is the same in real life, as he comes across on tv.
There is a Sparks interview from Tiswas in 1979 that's just surfaced, presumably you saw that?
@@80sandretrogubbins25 ,might have done, but I don't remember. Definitely remember the mersey pirate one though.
Ze French Chef, 'e is Bernard Wrigley, ze Bolton Bullfrog!
Duggie brown i vaguely remember too.
Shames there's no Sparks footage
There is a Sparks interview from Tiswas in 1979 that's just surfaced.
How have u had this decent condition for so many years ?
It's a VHS copy made 25 or so years ago, unplayed again until recently.
The futuristic music of Mike Oldfield
Hey, the title sequence
Thankyou. Any more you may have of the Pirate will be most welcome.
The Mersey Pirate was dire but nonetheless this is an incredibly fantastic find - another rarity. The series might have improved and had a second run if it hadn't been cut short due to the ITV network strike
Probably not, it was a massive logistical nightmare even without the strike
I vaguely remember it too.
Looking at this, I'm grateful Tyne Tees went their own way! 😂
They did not show tiswas either though did they too.
@@BruceDanton-xw6eg True, until 1981. But what they did put out was better than this Mersey Pirate from what I've seen ...
@@jasejj yes I am sure you are so right too. I live in the London area though but would not be sure though too. I did read they only showed the last series of tiswas from atv or Central though too.
What would Tyne Tees have shown instead of The Mersey Pirate?
@DalstonKingsland I sadly have no idea at all too.
Oh bloody hell, half of Hale and Pace...
Charlotte's Web
Wow such a rare clip ! Brought back lots of memories
How come no channel branding on the slide at 0:55 I wonder?
The BBC Midlands News presenter was David Stevens. He was our senior announcer until his retirement in 1987. He did regional continuity and presented daytime bulletins, but never presented the main evening editions of BBC Midlands Today.
This feels like the sort of thing that would be weirdly terrifying to watch live. I think it's the confusing nature of it all! Reality breaking.
1:02 The caption for "Song Of Farewell" looks like it came from Yorkshire Television, as that's what we used to see along with an announcement from YTV continuity rather than the spinning YTV chevron which came later.
TVS closes at 1.35am
I worked at LWT at this period. It was the production assistant's job to view and sign off the correct version before passing it to transmission. This PA, who shall remain nameless, was notoriously lax and should have lost her job over this, but was astonishingly let off.
