Atmospheric Industrial Techno AV liveset
Saturday, October 5th, 2024, was an incredible day. I had the pleasure of participating in a new edition of Synth-o-Matic at the Ex Centrale in Bologna. For the occasion, I put together a patch that leaned more atmospheric than usual, focusing on syncopated rhythms with a smarter, more intricate sound.
Challenges and Lessons Learned
As always, live performances come with their set of challenges, and this time was no different. First, I struggled with the audio monitoring. Since I was positioned too close to the speakers, the high frequencies felt way harsher than they actually were, making it difficult to fully trust what I was hearing.
I also faced some hesitation with the main melodic lead. I was reluctant to bring it in at full volume, fearing it would sound too sharp, but it turned out that it wasn’t an issue at all. Because of that, the set ended up being more atmospheric than I initially planned; I had hoped for something more danceable. Lastly, I realized that my sequencer needs an upgrade to handle more complex rhythms and easier recall, and I’m already working on improving it for future performances.
Audiovisual Setup
In the video, you’ll notice some stunning light effects that were integral to the performance. These were designed and programmed by my collaborator Antar, who I’m extremely grateful for. This marks the beginning of the audiovisual side of my project, and I’m excited to explore this even further.
Recording Setup and Future Improvements
The recording for this event was done using two miking points with four microphones in total. My goal was to capture the essence of the location’s sound as much as possible, despite the limited equipment I had on hand. However, I’ve already found a much more efficient solution for recording future performances. I’ll be using my Disting module instead of carrying my Zoom recorder, which will be a huge improvement with immediate benefits.
Each live set is a learning experience, and I’m happy with how this one turned out, despite the challenges. I hope you enjoy it!

In this video, I'll be testing and showcasing all 200 algorithms available in the FX AID modules. I'll provide a brief overview and demonstration of each effect, allowing you to hear the full potential of the FX AID. Enhancing the Live Patch: Modulations, Sidechain, and Percussion Adjustments (Part 3)
Переглядів 4993 місяці тому
In this third video, I continue to make small improvements to the patch, adding some modulations. Additionally, I've increased the BPM by 10, bringing it to 145 BPM, as I know I'll have very limited time to perform. I've also added the kraken snare. Although, as I mentioned in previous videos, I'm not entirely happy with the control it offers, as I struggle to find satisfying sounds, by keeping...
Refining the Live Patch: Percussion Improvements, Lead Additions, and Feedback Drones (Part 2)
Переглядів 8583 місяці тому
In this video, the patch-building process continues. I've added a few new cables and focused on refining some patterns. I found a good moment early in the video where the glitch effects, particularly using the drone as a background, were very pleasing. So, I dedicated some time to exploring those sounds. Additionally, I attempted to recreate a feedback effect that I used in my last live perform...
Creating a Live-Ready Modular Patch from Scratch (part 1)

This Saturday, I've been invited to perform in Milan. Over the next few days, I'll be building the patch that I'll take to the stage, and I want to share this process with you. Starting from scratch, I'll document my thought process in creating a complex patch. In this particular example, I'll build a patch capable of working without a computer, using only the modules I have available. The goal...
Crafting Cinematic Textures: happy accident with Qu-Bit Nautilus

After encountering some unpleasant noise issues with my old Mimeophon delay, I decided to give complex delays another shot, aiming to introduce new textures and a sense of stereo depth into my modular setup. My goal was to enhance the richness of the sound achievable exclusively through modular equipment. In this video, I capture a nice moment from a test patch where I experimented with a new c...

Added Metalloid Percussion to my rack
Переглядів 3026 місяців тому
I wanted to upload a new video while preparing for a new live show that I play in a couple of weeks. For the occasion I thought of removing the kraken and the fracture to insert something more appropriate, the new steady state fade metalloid percussion. From the first tests I have done in recent weeks, it is a very suitable module for me, and I must say very intuitive in terms of controls, perf...

Sounds great, tons of variation
33:40 and onwards came out soo good
There is only one piece of garbage in this video
?
Looking sexy next to the Belgrad 👌
Nice sound design, very bad whine/earth problem in the background.
Hi thanks for your comment ,could you please clarify what you mean by while?
@@polymodular can you not hear the high pitched whine?
@@KeithDuncanSound well if you intend the crunch that is inherent to the module itself,as it uses a specific delay chip, which is low fidelity
@@polymodular At 5.23 min there is a lot of hum/coil whine/bad grounding in your power when recording to your soundcard.
@@KeithDuncanSound You're absolutely right about that. The noise you're hearing is due to the fact that I record these videos by sending a cable directly to my camera, and unfortunately, that particular cable isn't shielded, which results in some interference. I hope it wasn't too bothersome
Gritty as hack. Great work!!!
👽
yeaaaaaahhhh ! dop !
Came to hear the metalloid. Not disappointed. Thx. Sometimes I think you could need sort of a 'counter-rhythm' in between. Like a simple 4/4 hihat for some bars.
You're right, I'm working hard to improve my percussion game. That was one of the reasons to get the metalloid ☺️
absolute slap!
LOVE my FX Aid, the reverbs sound so good and I actually use the drum synth engines a lot
dude, you be groovin!
great video! thank you
ciao, dove hai suonato a Milano? sto per rientrare in italia, a Milano, e vorrei partecipare a questo tipo di eventi

@@polymodular grazie
Thank you for this!
Looks super simple and sounds great, can you clock the delay through CV in? I was looking at this one a little while ago,now I'm sold, great video thanks
It can be clocked yes, not algorithms though. Checking the manual helped it's really clear. Glad to have helped!
Feeling inspired, thank you!
Well done - Sounds are very cohesive.
more modulation please. On everything.
Good point. I usually add modulations once I'm happy with the audio routing
Nice rack and great sounds. Would have loved to hear some commentary as you're working. Could maybe use an EQ after your reverb.
Editing now a new long form video! New format because I'm 100% focusing on a new album
@@polymodular Excellent. Looking forward to the video and the album!
Really great stuff, well done
Beautiful! How did you achieve those BIA evolving distortion tails? Is it a Disting effect? Sounds ace!
I believe it was the lyra 8fx delay pre distortion that helped create that. Elongated the tail basically
@@polymodular Ah, thanks! Gotta give this a try! ;)
Nice series !
👏👏👏👏👏🤩🤩🤩🤩
This is just patched so well, rare modular artist thats just pleasent to the ear to listen too
Glad you liked it!
love this kind of video, nice workflow and sounds!
Seeeerious sound made with top notch modules. Hahah now I see the floating mult as well 👌subbed!
So sick
so cool <3
Sounds great!
Very cool! Like the vibe! Cheers!
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS IS BUT THIS IS THE COOLEST THING IVE SEEN, IM DANCING TO THE BEAT, THIS IS FUCKING AWESOME
hell yeah 🎶💃🕺
This is the best kind of comment to receive as a modular synth user 😂
Nice
massive !!
Sounds great. Do you use voltage block with metalloid ever? I typically modulate it by hand but throwing lots of CV at it is fun too.
Yeah it's really good with many small modulations
Delicious
Great video, need to watch a few times...I see you added the nautilus delay, what's the new reverb?
I'm using the FX AID by happy nerding. Sounds really good and is super customizable with different algorithms.
I kindly invite you to check the description for more info and my rationale
Great! really like the transition near 40 min
Killer set!
This is really great
I cleaned and improved the audio for the Bandcamp release: polyterative.bandcamp.com/track/live-industrial-techno-set-granata

holy mother of fuck
The more attentive of you will notice that I moved the ES-9 module from it's spot for the first time in four years!!
HA I saw that...also do not see any BASTLs anymore..... move on from the waver and dark matter?
@@gracecore just moved to the row below! (in the video I was in between a reorganizing) haha I still love them so much!
