I love the way Thibaud Flament is totally unapolegetic about the way he's speaking English with a very noticeable French accent, that doesn't block him to be quite clear and eloquent. This video should be shoown to lots of French people who are afraid to speak in English because they were trashed by their peers due to a strong accent and/or some pronounciation issues. BTW, your French is really great and your enthusiasm is communicative. Bravo pour votre podcast, vous méritez vraiment de réussir ! Edit : With the new logistical constraints about this intercontinental championship I wonder why the board that put this championship in place didn't envison to work with an airways company (or even Airbus itself! After all their headquarters are in Toulouse FFS!) to ensure direct flights for every team that is participating in this championship. Just as long as it isn't Ryanair, of course!

South Africa have 400 players playing overseas, 200 of those are elite. Its insane to think that we are using the Champions cup as a player development tool for our 2nd, 3rd string guys against quality players like Thibaud. What a privilege.

There's a laaitjie at the Sharks who is making waves. Batho Hlekani. He was player of the tournament at the 2023 Craven Week for EP, and turned heads for the Baby Boks last year. He's in there again, and this year should be a big one for him. However, I don't understand why they're persisting with him at lock when he's clearly one of the best young loosies around. He's a big boy for his age, and a devastating ball carrier in the Duane Vermeulen mould, direct and abrasive. He deserves a shot, and could be on the plane to Australia in 2027 if he gets the right push. Top talent.

The way the game is now doesn't make sense. A 12-month season with a few weeks of rest time in between is just going to lead to player burnout. They're already dropping like flies with all of the injuries. The URC is a good competition that we can get behing, but more needs to be done about the Currie Cup. It doesn't make sense that our best players play for 12 months, and those that need more game time to develop basically only play when the Currie Cup is on, which is a few months. We need to sit down and rethink about where the game is going. Do we want to get the big money from a European competition while putting out players at risk of burnout? South African teams should not be in the Champions Cup and Challenge Cup. One of the things that turned us off Super Rugby was the travel involved. Now we have teams travelling to Europe just for one game and then coming back. We'll never be able to field our strongest teams if that stays like that, unfortunately. And regarding the Currie Cup, SA Rugby need to relinquish its control over the competition because they haven't got a clue what to do with it. The Currie Cup should be running the Currie Cup with its own board, much like the Premier League or PSL. It should have a commissioner, much like the SA20 or NFL. Right now, they don't have a Graeme Smith, someone to be the face of the whole thing.This competition is too important to the future of the game to just let it die and more needs to be done. Please get Conrad Jantjies for one of your future shows. He rose to the top despite facing some challenges, particularly with Laurie Mains in charge of the Cats back in the day.
