As a big, wide footed woman who was constantly shoe horned into shoes as a little girl that would crush the width of my foot and smash my toes together….i was ALWAYS self conscious of my big UGLY feet. Then in my 30s I dated a dude with a foot fetish who adored my big size 12 wide foot. Though the relationship didn’t last….I finally saw the beauty of my feet. Truthfully that relationship allowed me to make peace with a part of my body that I’d loathed and cursed for decades. Now in my forties, I have ditched even attempting to wear the “cute” shoes meant for women, the heels, the boots meant to reshape and literally DEFORM my feet. Eff that. I’m a nurse. My feet, my knees and my back are a large part of my livelihood. I want strength and stability as I move into the second half of my life. Aaaaand i managed to find a gorgeous pair of natural foot knee high boots that allow me to reclaim my goth-chick aesthetic.

To me the shape is the most important too. I'm not convinced that we always need to walk on thin soles and when I want a true barefoot experience, I just walk barefoot, and it costs zero dollars 😅 A thicker sole is protective, and sometimes we want and need that extra protection. But the narrowing at the toes shape has no purpose other than fashion, which is nothing more than an opinion. And I refuse to sacrifice my health or even my comfort for someone's opinion.

Thank you for this information. Many ‘minimalist’ shoes seem to have a ‘maximalist’ price. Please include ‘big box’ stores in your next review. I wear a size 13 wide and found some ‘hidden gems’ at a local Walmart. I bought 2 styles of minimal heel drop sandals in which I can wear my toe spacers - cost $19.97 per pair. I also bought and repurposed a pair of ‘water shoes’ - cost $5.00 per pair. Do you find any negative aspects to the big box shoes as long as they meet the stack height, heel drop, and wide toe box requirements? Thank you.
