Stuck in the future and trying to find my way back!
Hello!
My name is Austin and I’ve been around classic cars my entire life. I’ve owned countless vintage automobiles. I’ve restored them and brought many back from the dead but most of all I love to drive them. No distance has ever been too far. I have many cross country cruises under my belt. People have been telling me for years to make a UA-cam channel so here it is!
This channel focuses on all things related to obsolete automobiles! Featuring classic cars, road trips, fun and interesting destinations of yesteryear, auto restoration and repair, and more!

1992 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon with a Broken Frame! 500 Mile Roadtrip! Pittsburgh PA WV VA USA
Am I crazy? I took ownership of a 1992 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon. Only one problem. The car has a rusted/broken frame! It's also up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! One of the rear lower control arms is dangling and the car cannot be driven at any speed.
Essentially, I'm trying to save this car from turning into crusher bait. My friend Zach gave me this car so I need to give it a new life!
The plan?
-Rent a car.
-Load it with tools, welder and metal.
-Drive to the Burgh.
-Fix the broken frame.
-Drive it around the Burgh.
-Drive it 500 miles home to NC.
Will it work? Will I make it home?

Nice work fellas!
My Dad had one of those. 65 now and I remember taking trips in it. It rode like a pillow. Tons of room for my brother and me. Brings back memories.
That’s a spiffy 62 Austin. Cool video. Those are probably the only taillights (aside from the Packard sore thumb taillights of 54 and 55) that could be seen from above. Enjoy that interesting piece of Detroit iron.
Hi Austin, I see your video is 4 hours long. You may need to remind some people they can stop or pause the video at any time. Incase they need to eat or use the bathroom. Particularly that one guy, you know the one I'm talking about 😄. Looking forward to watching this one 👍🏻, at my leisure.
@@harrycallaghan3057 I also have chapters so you can skip ahead or go back to parts you want to see!
@ObsoleteAutomotive You have your work cut out for you, that frame. Looks like it was down with the Titanic.
@ I said the same thing actually!
You're a braver man than I am, with a frame broken in 2 places plus unknown other structure due to rust. It's been more than 40 years since I lived in the rust belt that's one big thing I don't miss about it. Know you can't avoid rusty cars up there, but when it gets to be structural in more than one place, I'd be really hesitant to risk even driving it (let alone 500 miles). Anyhow, I'm probably hardly qualified to comment much except: - I actually watched more than 2 hours of this, I'll admit - I briefly lived in Pittsburgh (in 1961-62). My parents are from (Northeastern) Pennsylvania but due to my Dad's job we moved around a lot in their younger years, but never lived closer than about a 4 hour car ride from their families). People thought my Dad was nuts, they actually moved from Southern California to Pittsburgh in 1961 (when California was still booming and Pennsylvania beginning a long decline.) He got a job at Westinghouse Semiconductor (Dad's first job out of college was as a chemist for Sylvania where he worked on semiconductors starting in 1956, he worked for many other companies but really never had a different job till he retired in 1990. I had a problem with Perthes disease and was in the Pittsburgh Children's hospital in a leg cast, actually had to learn to walk again after I got out of it. Despite our brief time living there we were in 2 houses, one in Garden City (Monroeville) and the other in Holliday Park (Murraysville). Thanks for the tour of Pittsburgh. We live 1500 miles away, but have made many road trips to visit Northeastern PA and often go through Pittsburgh (partly because my youngest sister who died of ovarian cancer at age 37 is buried in Granville, Oh, which makes Pittsburgh on the way since we always stop to visit her grave. Besides living there as a young kid, I've been through Pittsburgh several times but never stopped to look around much (which is why I kept viewing 2.5 hours of video before calling it quits). Regarding the American Bantam at the Heinz museum....I didn't see the sign but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with Pittsburgh being near Butler, PA (yes, the same town where Trump was shot during his campaign rally last summer)...which was also apparently where the Jeep got started, guess a contract to develop such a vehicle was given to American Bantam and they developed it, though they didn't have the capacity to build all the volume of vehicles needed so others also made Jeeps. Butler is somewhat northeast of Pittsburgh. Enjoyed what I did watch, might finish it sometime, maybe should have before I commented.
I guess some folks think these cars are just junk when they get to this point (and rightfully so) but I love taking them on adventures, broken frame or not! I’m glad you enjoyed the short Pittsburgh tour. I’d like to explore some more later on when I get the chance!
Love it. Have the same car in the Netherlands. Mine needs quite some work but it drives :)

Thank you for the Shot Tower footage. I have driven past it, on I 77, numerous times on the way to the coast of North Carolina on family vacations and have wanted to see it. @@kidguzzi_chrisgalardi It’s hard to find!
@ObsoleteAutomotive yes it is. I drank it almost exclusively in high school and college in Omaha. Then it disappeared. Unobtanium here in Florida. Occasionally my college buddy from Ohio visits and brings me a couple 12 packs. It's not quite the same as the old fire-brewed Strohs but still brings back good memories.
I had of those long ago...a '91 with a 305. Very underpowered but there aren't many cars that are better for a road trip. Super reliable.
To tell you the truth Austin, it wasn’t worth it , I’m a big fan of, but I would tell you not to do that.
It was done for the fun and adventure of doing it, especially along with a couple friends. Afterall the car was practically free and is getting an extension on life.
That’s a great parts car . But to take a road trip , 500 miles! That’s not worth it , in my opinion.

Buick I thought these were only made with a Chevy badge, as a Caprice station wagon.
91-96 Buick estate, 91-96 Chevy Caprice wagon, 91-92 Olds Custom Cruiser. All '91's had a TBI 305, 92-93 had a TBI 350 and 94-96 had an LT1 350. Must of the components underneath are the same as 1/2-ton pickups.
After ALL the technical automotive advances over the years, automakers structural rust problem is somehow WORSE than ever, especially on later model GM products. A former co-worker recently junked an '02 Silverado, seemingly almost mint condition except for a tiny bit of rust on the rockers. Unfortunately, the frame had fully succumbed to the "tin worms" to such an extent that it looked as though it was dragged from the bottom of a lake. Planned obsolescence at its finest...🏁 .
Wow 4 hours! Looking forward to this one. I remember quite a few of these on the road back in the day. Still see one every now and then. I'm in NY so most cars from the early 90's are long gone.
