    I just got one of these grills, I love it so far. 2 questions: Do you have to refill your charcoal hopper during a long smoke? And if so, how do you do it safely?

    • @SmokinBonesBbq
      @SmokinBonesBbq Рік тому

      Congratulations, you will love it!! Sometimes i do, depends on the protein, and type of charcoal your using. For example, i have found that the lump coal will burn faster than briquettes. There is alot more air, and space around the lump then all of the briquettes. But to answer your 2nd question. Real easy, open the hopper top and dump it in. ** i dont recomend putting your face over the opening when checking the level. Sometimes, you will have flames coming out of it.

    The dirs say to also oil the charcoal grate, which is where the starter block goes. Can't very well remove the hot charcoal to do it. Maybe next cook, I will oil it before startup.

  • @Vdbdesigns-3dprint
    @Vdbdesigns-3dprint Рік тому

    if you are smoking the chicken first, why do you have the sear side of the grates upwards?

    • @SmokinBonesBbq
      @SmokinBonesBbq Рік тому

      even if the sear grates are facing up, the smoke is still getting to the protein. this was a short smoke, on long smokes for pork butt, or brisket i would have it reversed.

    • @SmokinBonesBbq

      You put the damper slides back in. It chokes out the fire. Just turn off the controlls, put in the slides, and walk away. That easy

    The Gravity series is total shit. I've had my grill for 6 months and so far have had to dismantle and clean it, replace 2 switches & a cord and the computer will not update or connect to my phone. The fan will randomly quit working. I've had emails to and from the company and demanded phone calls. I've gotten exactly 3 cooks out of it and have been embarrassed with guests waiting on food. IT IS A PIECE OF SHIT!!! Don't buy it.

    • @SmokinBonesBbq

      No, only needed. Once. I would recommend after a years worth of use, to give it a deep clean. At that point re do the seasoning process

  • @robertkirschner1088

    I just assembled my gravity series 800 and was starting my burnin… I happened to put a MP in the grill to compare to the control the temp…the control panel temp SLOWLY crept up to 81 degrees while I was getting an error message that my MP reading was over 300. Plus the thermometer on the front was approaching “grill”. How can I fix this issue? Is it a reset or do I have a bigger issue?

    • @SmokinBonesBbq
      @SmokinBonesBbq 2 роки тому

      If the temps on the display are not matching other temperature measurements I recommend reaching out to Masterbuilt. Sounds like might be an issue with the control board or temp sensor. You can also check to make sure your firmware is up to date on the panel. That might help, might not.

    How did you add wood in the chute and did you use lump or briquettes

    • @SmokinBonesBbq
      @SmokinBonesBbq 2 роки тому

      Depending on what I’m smoking. Sometimes I’ll put some chunks into the chute with the charcoal. Couple chunks per about a foot of charcoal. I’ll also add chunks into the ash can. As far as type of coal, I prefer to use briquettes as I find they burn slower. But you can use lump if you prefer. Happy smokin!!

  • @tony950
    @tony950 2 роки тому

    After I did the burn in and shut down process my left over coals stayed lit in the hopper ....even though I put the slides back in to block off air flow....is this normal 🤔....seems like a waste of coal🤔

    • @SmokinBonesBbq
      @SmokinBonesBbq 2 роки тому

      Yes, the fire will burn out when you put the slides back in. Make sure the top of the hopper is also closed. The coal will be ready for next time. Very minimal waste. The coals will burn out and won’t continue to burn up everything in the hopper.

    • @tony950
      @tony950 2 роки тому

      Okay update ....the fire in the hopper did eventually go out completely it took a little longer than I thought but in the morning there was still coal left in the hopper....I had my first cook this evening porterhouse and bone in chicken breast....I have to admit I am impressed.... this thing did its job👍few spikes in temp but fan did what it was supposed to and temp went back swiftly....I can't wait for slow and low😁

    the only thing i dont like about this thing right out of the gate is the power cord lol I also have a Traeger Timberline 1300 and while that smoker was $2K it doesnt get too 600-700 so I bought the masterbuilt 560 for searing but i would have easily paid $50 more for a 12 or 14 gage wire on the masterbuilt

    • @erkd83ify
      @erkd83ify Рік тому

      Just my opinion here, I don’t believe the 560 necessarily needs 12 or 14 gauge like other pellet grills because it doesn’t have a hopper auger that runs pellets to the burner. The 560 only needs power for the fan and ecu for the controller of the fan.

    Did you trim the ribs yourself? If so, did you remove any bones from the rack? Rib tips are my personal favorite. Great job on the ribs and the video. It was very helpful to see how many racks you could lay flat in the chamber. I plan on getting the 560 or the 800.

    Great video thanks! One question though - you had 18 racks to do but only fit four on at a time. How long did it take you in total or how did you manage to do more at once? I’m asking as I’m likely going to have to cook quite a few in one go for a party in the coming months and I’m already trying to figure out how I’m going to do them all at once haha! Thanks in advance
